Here I have been reading the boards for the last six months in preparation for our trip and here I am posting a question the day before...I had assumed we would just use room charging to avoid carrying cash for our trip, however, my husband is wondering is Disney has additional charges for this privilege - I am pretty sure they don't but thought i better ask before convincing him of dong this...can anyone help?

No additional charges--have a great trip!

Anne

No charges , but I wouldn't add charges to the same card being use for the DDP plan if you are doing that plan.
Have a great trip:thumbsup2

Your room key is your Key to the World. It has your dining credits (if you do DDP), park tickets, key to room and charging privileges. When you check out they give you a print out of everytime you used the card for purchases. Then you decide if you want to use your credit card on file or cash or another card to pay the bill. The only "extra charge" will be depending on your credit card interest rate when you get the bill at home! Disney does not charge for this convenient feature. ;)

why wouldnt you put money on the same card as your ddp???? If u tell the waiter/waitress that your on the ddp then they shouldnt charge ur card for your money right???

You might still want to carry some cash, even while on property. We've had problems in the past with the card being demagnetized(or having the cm who checked us in not knowing what they were doing  ), and would have really been up a creek if we hadn't had cash on us.

Well as long as you think nobody makes mistakes right??? Especially when real busy as Disney restaurants get. If you do decide to put the charging on the card, make sure you check your restaurant bill just to make sure they didn't charge the card by mistake and take care of this before you leave the restaurant. I heard many times on the dis boards that this mistake has been made and they would never put the DDP and charging on the same card the next time just to prevent mistakes. I also with our upcoming trip will not put the 2 on the same card.
Again have a great vacation.

ummm... rest assured that even if a mistake is made (charging your card monetarily instead of deducting points) it can be remedied very quickly right there. the card gets charged but you don't "pay" until you check out and verify the charges (so you get one more chance to check it out then...) All of the dining reciepts are very detailed. We have NEVER had an issue, at all. There is no extra charge and honestly my husband puts his wallet in the safe and for the next few days all he has on him is the room key... The only reason we (a party of 5) needed cash was for the laundry room and I had already packed a roll of quarters. Our sons actually lost their cards and we immediately went to guest services (once at a park and once at the resort) and they issued them new cards voiding the old without any hassle.

go... have a good time... use one card... it'll be ok... and if it's not... they will fix it happily. (will you be able to sleep tonite?)

It is a nice free service but it is not perfect. On a recent trip we were give a $500 credit line from Disney. Once you reach the limit they are supposed to charge your credit card. Well they did not for us and we were denied use on two occasions. Luckily I did have extra cash. My wife was really hot the second time it happened. They even credited us $150 for our dinner. Each night they are supposed to review charges and then charge the card. Just beware of this. They did raise our limit to $1500, which is what they should of started us off at.

Sorry, you are mistaken .
They do not review charges -- you are supposed to review your charges.
When you reach your limit ---$500 at a value, $1,000 at a mod or $1500 at a deluxe you need to go to front desk and pay the bill then Disney will issue you more credit.
They do not automatically charge your card when the limit is reached.

We check at least every 2ed night and pay the bill so we always have enough credit to charge whatever we want to. It also hepls us may sure we were NOT double charged or did not recieve a charge for a service or product we did not buy.

Disney does not automatically charge your card.

Have fun at Disney!:wizard:

It is you that is mistaken. We were told that our card would be charged automatically. As expected, why should we have to make the effort to review daily? Disney admitted they were wrong and it should of never happened.

I am sorry.My misunderstanding.

I guess you gave Disney authorization at check in to charge your card once you reached your limit.

That is not the way it is usually handled.

Disney usually sets a certain limit to at each level of resort to protect you against fraudulent charges in case your key is lost or stolen. The CM's are not allowed to charge your credit card without your authorization.

Usually Disney settles up the charges on the last day of vacation, unless you exceed the limit before then, in which case, with your authorization, they charge to the credit card at that point and you start up again charging against the limit.

humm..... during our 3 stays, EVERY time the CM told us our credit card would be charged when we reached our limit and we it would begin again. We were NEVER told to settle at the front desk....

Ok so call me confused :confused3 :confused3

During our stay in 2003 we were at the World of Disney Store and tried to charge some puchases to our room key.
We were not allowed to use it because we had reached our limit.
So DH ended up using one of our charge cards at the store.
They told him to go the front desk of our hotel and authorize payment so we use the key card to charge again.

That is what we did and ever since then we just made sure we pay off the key card before it reaches the limit or better yet I just usually my Disney Visa so I can get more reward dollors.

See all this can be avoided by using your room key for entering your room and the DDP only, and taking travlers checks , disney bucks or your personal credit card for buying things. Disney is so busy mistake are made all the time and you end would end up running all over the place just get charges fixed instead of being there having fun.
Last year when we arrived our first 3 room keys wouldn't even open the door to our room, I lost 10 pounds running around before having any fun and we were actually over the parks before we were unpacked and in our room about 10pm.
I guess the origional poster is already of on her vacation, I wonder how here charge card is doing?
There she is off having a good time and we are here, but next month that will change.

We usually go over the limit and the limit has always automatically started over since we started going in 1996 except at BBB last October the CM told me my card was refused and I would have to pay with something else. I knew that was wrong so asked to call the hotel and had the limit reset over the phone. Maybe its a new thing? Next time I check in I'm going to ask how its handled and specifcally ask to have the spending limit automatically reset. I really don't want to stand in line for something like that! Have fun!
