My dad and his wife own a RCI time share (weeks) When they go onto the RCI web site the see the DVC rooms. I was wonder if I can use one their weeks are DVC time share if there are room still open after dvc members have booked? Or will have to rent DVC points?

It depends upon the trading power of their RCI resort. DVC does indeed place quite a few weeks into RCI.

RCI weeks can be traded into DVC, but availability can be very limited.

Its a separate inventory from what DVC points owners see, since in order for somebody to trade in from RCI to DVC, someone that owns DVC has already traded out their DVC points to RCI, KWIM?

If they can see a week that you want in a DVC villa in your resort of choice in the RCI inventory, absolutely nab it! Just be aware, that there are RCI rules against selling a week one books, and I believe there's a fee upon check in. Not sure if those same rules apply to gifting a week, especially since its a family member but you might be able to read more about those rules over on the TUG, or Timeshare User Group forum.

Points rental is a completely different animal, and if you're unfamiliar with the system a professional renter such as David's Vacation Rental might be the way to go. He's a sponsor of this board.

Last time I went we rent points and it went really well. What is holding me back this time is that I have friend that cannot make her mind if her wants to go...and her boyfriend need his own bed/maybe even bedroom..Gusse the time share won't work out :(

Let those two make their own reservations. You wait around for people like them and you'll never go.

Yep that is what I was thinking, I am taking a shopping trip with her this weekend so we can have good talk about.

I am pushing to go for food and wine and my birthday :D

The best way to do this is to list all DVC resorts, preferably in a 1 BR and put in an ongoing request a full 11 months out or more if possible. You can always book something that shows up online as well. Realistically you will need a TPU (Trade Power) of high 30's to mid 40's depending on unit size and time of year.

Can you tell me how I do this?

you need to log in to the RCI website and search for possible exchanges.

you would have to have your own RCI membership (you'd have to own a timeshare) or have access to your dad's RCI account password to be able to search on your own.

The codes for the WDW options are DV1, DV2, DV3, DV5, DV6, DV8 & DV9. For an ongoing search you go into your RCI weeks account/search for a vacation/ongoing search. Just be aware that they will let you search even if you don't have sufficient TPU. They'd either have to do it or give you access to their account.
