Sick pet.. Cancel trip?

I am sad to report that we just got back from the vet and we had to have our 9 month old kitten put to sleep

I am sorry for the loss of your kitty. My dogs are my furry children and I know I will hurt terribly when that day comes. I prayed for the comfort of your entire family.

I'd cancel anything for a sick pet but them again I see them as part of my family and as important as any human being.

I guess the word "family" has a different meaning to some people. in my house my 3 cats are part of my and my kids family. Id discuss it with the children so they understood the situation and we would cancel.

Before I could read all of the posts I PM you with info. I work at a vet hospital, love animals, love Disney, and just wanted to help anyway I could. Hope the info I sent helped a little anyway.

For clarification, the OP was able to find a vet tech (don't have any pets so not entirely sure what that is) who will take care of his/her cat while they are away. Another poster posted that their cat just passed (I'm so, so sorry about that).

As to the OP, I'm glad you've found someone to help. So, go and enjoy your time at CBR (a wonderful resort) and just keep praying for your cat and I'm sure things we'll be all right!

I'm glad you found someone to come to your home. I had to have someone come to my house to do IV fluids a few yrs ago and I also had some friends checking in on him. Was you cat diagnosed with chronic renal failure (CHF)?
It can be a long and daunting road but if you have any questions feel free to message me. I learned alot from my experience with my kitty.

First off, i am glad it worked out OP!

I just wanted to add a viewpoint to this. While I can't speak as a parent, I can speak as a child who always had family pets, and if my parents had taken us on a family vacation and I knew my dog or cat was very sick, I'd be very upset about it. ....Just saying if that wasn't an option, the people who would cancel a family vacation to be sure their pet is ok, are not always "choosing" pets over family. I would assume in a lot of cases the children are just as concerned as the parents (again, depending on their age).

I agree with this 100%. for those saying you are choose the pet over family, that may be for your family, but not mine. My DS would be livid if I took him on vacation while our pets were sick. He gets very concerned when our pets are not feeling well, and generally wants to be around them and look after them. If we were to go on our vacation anyway and the worst happened and our pet died, it would be very tramatic for him - more so than if we had stayed home and gone another time.

I'm so sorry to hear this. At least the kitten is not in any more pain, and was loved and cared for right until the end. Making the decision to put a beloved pet to sleep is the most loving thing that can be done.
