Sick as a dog on Mission Space

I gotta tell ya, ANY ride where there is a good chance of me throwing up, or (worse) someone throwing up on me - I will gladly skip. I love all things Disney, but I won't be doing this ride.

I am not prone to motion sickness but you all have me scared to death of this ride and I really want to ride it. Do you think that it would help to take some Dramimine before riding?

We just got back from a great week at Disney. On Aug 3rd at about 6:30 at night while I was waiting at the exit of Mission space they actually had paramedics come in with a stretcher for some poor man. He had gotten off the ride and had been sitting on the benches for about 15 minutes with CM's talking to him when finally the parmedics arrived. The parmedics spent several minutes with him and then a Cm wheeled him out in a wheel chair.
I felt really bad for the poor guy.

actually i have vertigo and balance problems and while corkscrew type rides leave me stumbling around like someone who has had "one too many"drinks, this had no effect on me at all, go figure.( not that i'm recommending you try it, just an observation)

if you are not prone to motion sickness i doubt you'd have problem,,,if you have ever gotten car sick or anything similar, i'd take dramamine/bonine( nondrowsy type naturally )as husband who is very prone to ms got very sick with out it just as a precaution. i really did not think this ride was intense at all, certainly not equal to the "fear"/thrill factor of say tot.it was however very fun! the take off sensation is very brief and unless it was just i was enjoying the view of the screen i felt fine, a little "floaty" which was fun but otherwise fine. imo it's a don't miss.

Reading the posts on this thread I think the main problem with MS is you cant predict how you're going to feel.

I suffer from motion sickness and cant go on the tea-cups or Space Mountain. I go on simulators but usually come out feeling a bit queezy - especially in the back seat of Back to the Future.

I wasn't planning on going on this ride but having done my favourite ride at Epcot (test track) I thought that I'd give it a shot and if I felt ill afterwards I'd just take things easy which is OK at Epcot.

To my surprise I felt fine and thought the ride was great. If I had read this thread before going I doubt I'd have gone on the ride.

I would suggest that if you are concerned then you need to make a call as to whether you're prepared to feel queezy for some time afterwards. If that would ruin your day then dont do the ride, after all Epcot isn't a park for the rides. If you've done most of Epcot at other times then give it a shot.

DH can't ride Dumbo or the Astro orbitors without getting sick, he can ride roller coasters though. Anyway, he rode MS and didn't have any problems at all. He followed the instructions that they gave at the beginning and looked straight ahead at the screen. DD and myself rode it with no problems at all. I did see plenty of people who were ill after getting off of the ride.

Heed the warnings on this attraction. While it did not make me sick, it was an intense attraction that I did not enjoy.

Sadly all the hype about Mission Space, only to be very disappointed. Makes me wonder why so much money was spent on an attraction that would appeal to such a limited audience.

Don't worry about long lines, once is enough for most people.

That seems to be the case. On our last trip to Epcot, there was no line whatsoever at Mission Space. Mrs. Uncleromulus got right on (she liked the ride) while I took a seat just outside the exit to watch the people come out. Not a soul made any effort to ride Mission Space twice, even tho there was no line and no waiting. Every person I saw exit the ride just went on their way

So glad I passed on it this trip. I definitely don't regret missing it.
There are plenty of other great attractions.

Rode it in November 2003...NEVER AGAIN...though I am glad I gave it a try once. I was sick as a dog when I got off of there, had to hold onto my DHs arm as we walked out because I felt so dizzy. He blocked my vision from seeing a young boy toss his cookies on the floor as we were exiting (glad he did that). I sat down for half an hour in the shade, DH got me a Coke which settled my stomach somewhat, but did not feel right all the rest of the day..

If in doubt do not ride is how I feel, it can ruin the rest of the day at Epcot for you and for me it is not worth it...just my two cents.

I guess we now know why so few people can actually become astronauts!!! This attraction is a prime example of you either love it or hate it. No middle ground.

Yikes! I'm a little concerned about myself getting sick, but I am even more concerned about seeing other people getting sick. That always makes my stomach turn!

Add me to the list of people who were happy to be staying on Mars. Somehow I was convinced we were going to have to return to Earth, but being stuck on Mars brought an incredible sense of relief. Overall, I managed well on Mission Space, but I'm glad the ride stopped when it did. DS (10) went on 3 times in a row and had a great time. He was really concerned that I would miss pushing all the buttons, but I didn't want to take my eyes from the screen to look for them, and I was even afraid to blink! I experienced a slight feeling of queasiness by the end of the ride, but it passed in a few minutes - not enough to keep me from trying it again, but I think it's a once-a-trip ride for me.

I'm prone to motion sickness, but mostly in the car rather than on rides. As a child I hurled indiscriminately on family vacations , but as an adult I'm fine as long as I don't try to read in the car - darting a quick glance at a map is as much as I can manage.

I get really sick riding the Teacups so after reading the posts on this board, I had made up my mind not to ride MS.

My husband was really excited to ride it and when we got there I was curious so I decided at the last minute to go with him.

I was absolutely the most intense ride I've ever been on, but I followed the directions (look straight ahead, etc.) and it was manageable. I had a headache and had to sit down for about an hour afterward, but I have to say I'm glad I rode it.

I just have to say that last year at Epcot my kids begged me to go on MS. I'm very claustrophobic-anyway after they said it like 20 times about enclosed spaces, motion sickness, blah,blah,blah-I chickened out. So for all of you that got sick-I'm sorry, but at least YOU tried it.

I rode Mission Space for the first time last week. I loved the ride, but to put it lightly, slightly lost my cookies at the end, but felt fine after getting off. I think it will be one of those rides I do every few trips.

I have never gone on it yet, but I think the whole concept for the ride is fantastic. However, I think Disney could have done this without spinning people. It eliminates a large group of people who want to go on but are afraid they are going to get sick. I think they could have done a space ride with other types of effects and illusions without using a spinning simulator. I love Space Mountain, one of my favoriates.

With all the money they spent on this ride, they could have done something else to give this illusion. I love roller coasters and some simulators, but I will not do Body Wars again because it made me feel ill, so even though I would love to see the technology this ride offers, I'm afraid to throw-up on someone. It seems Disney is trying to compete with Universal and add more thrill rides, but I always loved Disney because of the Disney Magic they put into there rides not the speed and G forces.

If I do try it on my upcomming trip, I think I'll do it on the last day.

I don't understand why this ride makes some people sick. I've rode it many times and when I took my sister & nephew to ride it in june I warrned them that some people get sick. I told them the standard stuff, look straight ahead..etc...

The frist thing she said when we got out was what I've always thought "That was it? People get sick on that?"

Now, personally I love this ride but aside from it being very short I think they have "watered" it down far too much. I would have liked to been there during the soft opening to see if they actually had you pulling more G's then but I would almost bet on it.

I think they sould have special time periods you can get a ticket for where they actually crank the G froces back up a notch.
