Sick as a dog on Mission Space

They warn you SOOO many times on Mission Space that if you are just a little tinsy bit prone to motion sickness, don't do it.... and its true. I dont have a montoin sickness problem, and I was pretty dissy on it.

I don't understand why people don't listen to the huge warning signs before they ride Mission Space. I've seen A LOT of sick people... and I've seen a couple of guests get really mad at Disney because they got sick on the ride. Its not Disney's fault... they warned them.::MickeyMo

I guess it really varies, like others here I am very prone to motion sickness (even doing a flip underwater makes me dizzy) but this ride was alright. Had it been 2-4 minutes longer I might have been in bad shape, I left feeling just a wee bit woozy and covered in light perspiration which took about 2 minutes to shake off.

Look forward to doing it next year now that I know what the ride is like, the hype around it made it more intense for me.

it's odd how this affects people so differently and i really don't think you'd be able to tell till you ride it...so sorry for the sick ones as I loved it but hubby hated it and the next couple of hours after riding it too!

I am very prone to motion sickness. I can't swing on our swing set in the backyard with my grandson without getting woozy.

I was determined to get on mission space because the space program has been a passion of mine since I was eight and saw a space craft fly over in Florida from the cape.

I took motion sickness medicine and looked straight ahead the whole time (which you should) and it was awesome. I felt a little tired for a couple hours because of the medicine but it was worth it. We even ate when we got off.

I was determined to do it at least one time. My husband and I were there and I was coming back with my grandkids later, so I gave it a test run. He did great. I was so anxious about getting sick (barf bag in hand the whole time) that I couldn't really enjoy it. Although I didn't get sick or nauseated, I felt a little "funny" for about an hour afterward. When I went back with the grands, I figured it would be a piece of cake. But at liftoff, I found that I had lots of trouble focusing my eyes (I was staring right at that screen). I think my brain was overriding the illusion and telling me that we were spinning. It turned out OK, but I don't plan on riding it again.

I wasn't nautious one little bit. neither was anyone else i knew that rode the ride. Also, I am very prone to motion sickness. I was shaking before the ride though because I thought I'd be scared or get sick.

We rode it the day we arrived so I had taken dramamine for the flight. (I can ride rollercoasters but the teacups make me feel sick.) I really liked the ride. I am so glad that I did it. The feeling of going up in space was great. I was a little dizzy when I got off for a little while. I rode it again later in the week and the same thing. I was a little dizzy but not sick to my stomach. I did ride on an empty stomach both times.

Thanks for the laugh of the day!!

I was ok during the ride, but felt kind of "weird" for about two hours afterwards. I don't plan on doing it again, but I'm sure glad I tried it once.

What I don't get is how some motion-sick prone people (like me) are fine and really enjoy the ride and others have their whole day lost to feeling ill? I guess it's just individual differences. I expected to feel rotten, but wound up going on it three times.

I sure understand that everybody experiences it differently. I just really don't understand the people that imply that if riders would just follow the directions, they wouldn't have any side-effects. Sorry, it's not that easy. I could ride anything I wanted before I had kids. Now I have a hard time on any simulator-type ride, and, believe me, I was following the directions to the letter.

I agree with this. My husband is prone to motion sickness, but he can ride some simulators. He does fine on Star Tours and Body Wars. He gets mildly nauseous from RnR, but he is pretty much ok on Tower of Terror (though he never wants to do it more than once per trip).

He knew this going onto Mission:Space and decided to take the risk anyway. He took Bonine. He rode on an empty stomach. He followed the directions very carefully.

He didn't actually vomit, but he could barely move for almost 4 hours after he got off. He was very, very nauseous, his head was killing him, and his arms were tingling. He said that the spinning was evident to him the entire ride, and he was looking directly at the screen.

My kids and I were fine. I tried to feel the spinning the second time I went on, and I couldn't. It just affects everyone differently. It isn't because some people do the wrong thing.

i was the same way and never noticed the spinning even though i knew we were, hub felt it right away and didn't know he was!

I was wondering about this one. I can't do the Back to the Future ride at Universal either.

i always joke that disney went and found a way to simulate what it's like to live in my head with the vertigo I have from Multiple sclerosis; MS: the ride is one i'm on all the time without any chance of getting off! LOL so i can't obviously ride this ride.

to me, if people want to risk being sick the rest of the day for this short ride, let em, just please, people, if you feel sick don't immediately go on another ride. cause if you lose your cookies in another pavillion people are gonna be grossed out! if you feel sick, it's best to hold still for awhile and not just try to rush on to the next thing. I noticed so many 'green' or sick people last time I was in Future World that my whole family felt uncomfortable and we ended up spending much less time there than we did before MS opened.

Now we spend most of our Epcot time in WS. Though, there was this family who thought that feeding a kid heavy fried food at rose and crown since he felt sick after mission space was the way to go. He was sitting next to me in a booth (at the next table) and I rushed through my lunch and left because I was afraid at any moment I'd be wearing HIS.

I did follow the instructions, head back and eyes straight. I was glued into this position. If this was supposed to help alleviate "disorientation" can you imagine how much worse it would be if you didn't comply?

Um, yeah I can LOL :p

Actually I didn't feel the spinning but being the concerned mom I am, I LOOKED OVER to my son who was on my right and the SECOND I did that, it was all over. I didn't throw up or anything but I sure was queezy and never so glad to reach Mars.

I was scared thinking I had to go back to Earth :earseek:

I came out and sat down for a good 45 minutes saying, don't touch me, don't talk to me, don't move me.

I was out of sync for a good 3-4 hours after that.

Its one of those things I can say, hay I went on it and that is good enough for me!!

We rode MS on it's 'official' opening day last August. I loved it, my dd, 9, loved it. Then there was my dh. Whole different story. He has a massive headache for about 3 hrs. after. He won't go on it again!!! Dd and I rode it several times that trip and again in Dec. When we rode in one time in Dec, our fellow 'travelers' in the pod were an actual airline pilot and his wife. He says to me "I'll tell you how realistic it is when we're done." The ride ended and he was pretty pleased with it. Said he used to fly jets in the airforce and it was as close as he's come to being on the shuttle!!

It's really funny how this one ride affects different people. Wonder why.

The warnings didn't bother me, Why???
I don't get motion sickness. I can ride anything.....except MS. I didn't actually throw up, but I felt extremely ill for quite a while. I followed all the directions and went in thinking it would be great. If we had to go back to Earth, that would have been one messy capsule.

I seem more prone to being scared of heights, motion sickness, etc the older I get. My mom was that way too. DH and kids convinced me to get on ToT and that was it. No more listening to them! They thought it was funny--I didn't think so!! I think DH is even a little concerned to go on M:S.

I dont usually get motion sickenss, but all the warning had me worried. I had to ride it though. ;) In the end I did fine, but the woman in the capsule with us didnt. Halfway through the ride I started hearing hacking. Thank goodness she had seen me grab a bag before the ride and asked for one too. I cant imagine what a disaster that would have been had she not had a bag. :earseek:

I dont' get sick on this ride, my head feels a little scrambled after but nothing that I would worry about. I have never seen any one get sick on it and I can't imagine what effect the g-forces would have if some one barfed in the capsule. I get more worried about the people in there with me getting sick! ICK!
