Shows with Pyrotechnics

your right I am thinking of the last one that did run before and after.

10-4. Yeah, used to love watching that show right before Wishes. I miss it actually. Always gave me the feels. OUAT is a bit of a pass for us. :-(

Thanks everyone! I've thought about getting him some nice acoustic filter earplugs so that it would reduce the decibels but he can still hear the music - I assume there's music? Has anyone used these type of earplugs before?
If he's comfortable with noise reduction headphones (like ones used for gun ranges) go to Wal-Mart if you've got one near you.

I already had ones but they were really bulky (Winchester brand) so we got new ones I want to say they were $15-$20 and about half the size of my previous ones. I believe the Noise Reduction rating was like 21 whereas my old ones were like 25/26 decibels. This means it reduces the noise by 21 decibels and in the case of my old ones by 25/26 decibels.

I brought the new headphones with me in my park bag and gosh they were a lifesaver. Yes I could still hear the music just fine but the fireworks noises were reduced. I can't really wear earplugs as it just doesn't work for my ear canals so that's why I use headphones (plus the investment is a lot better than paying someone for custom ear plugs).

I haven't been able to see Fantasmic! yet but I would assume you would be able to hear the music just like the other shows. ROL didn't require the headphones as no fireworks.

My sister had the same exact issue. Ear problems as a child has made her super sensitive to loud bangs (like pyro) as a n adult. She cannot tolerate:

Fantasmic (there is a HUGE cannon blast in the middle of the show with no warning...it's so loud it scares ME half to death and I love the show. there are also smaller pyro at the end)

Star Wars Fireworks

Illuminations Fireworks

MK Fireworks

Jungle Cruise (the gun the skippers use to fire at the hippos is too much for her)

Though gone now, she also couldn't do the Great Movie Ride due to the gun fight in it.

She also didn't like the daytime pyro that often accompanies the day time stage shows or park opening.

JAWS had a really large gun shot and as much as I loved that ride (that I have more appreciation for as I got older and as it is no longer at Universal) I hated that part.

This is very helpful, thank you. I didn't even think about rides. It'll be my first time at all the parks except MK so I'm not familiar with which rides and shows might have loud noises.

for me, I use my ear protectors on rides ( and I have a problem with more than just how loud something is.

EPCOT

FEA the sound is kind of loud thought out the ride ( he may not have a problem with this)
Soarin they have fireworks at the end that goes off
imagination train sounds ( I think the second room)
Some of the show in the pavilion is too loud for me.

HS

RnR coaster ( and yes you can wear them on the ride)
TOT there is a few lightning flashes that get to me.
I have not seen the stunt show in a long time but guessing this would be one.

AK

Dianasours bothers me but might not bother your brother.

all of dianoland ( it is like a carnival)
I know I used mine for the show at AK ( finding nemo, but I can not remember any sudden loud noises)
the pandora rides are fine ( unless I am having a really bad day)

Sounds like we might be better off keeping the earplugs on hand for daytime shows and rides too, not just for nighttime shows.
