It's our first Halloween party on 10/19/14! So excited, DD 6 is going, my DH (his 50th is that weekend too) and meeting up with friends. But have a DD who will have just turned 2. I have debated taking her / leaving her with a sitter. I can see that she might eventually fall asleep in the stroller, but hate to drag her around all night if she simply falls asleep by 8pm. What have you done? What works? I know she will enjoy it for a little while, and of course I want some photos of her there too.

Hi,

We are planning to take our DD2 we have booked 2 evenings for MNSSHP and my plan is to give her a late afternoon nap back at the hotel so she can enjoy the party at night fingers crossed she won't miss much.

dd will be 21 months when we go (9/28) and we plan on taking her....she's usually a dirty stay up anyway, and if she falls asleep then she falls asleep...i'm not too stressed about it...

I'm taking my 2 year old as well... I'm just planning on letting her have a long afternoon nap. I mean she can easily stay up until 10 if I let her (assuming a good nap). So I think it probably depends on your child. My daughter is awful if she doesn't nap but is totally fine for a late night. So I am adamant about naps but more open on bed times.

We're taking an 11 month old, but we're also a little nervous about it. She sleeps in the stroller but there's a lot going on at the party. We'll be in a large group of family members, so hopefully we can con whoever turns in the earliest into taking the baby with them :cool1:

We took our 2 year old 2 years ago, she stayed up till 10:30 ish and then we just pushed her around in the stroller the rest of the night. She's 4 now and I'm hoping she makes it till midnight!

My experience, when my DD was 2, was that hopefully she would nap in the stroller (which she most always does) and then would just stay up later.
That didn't happen. Apparently she has our party animal gene, and passed through a nap, and stayed up until 11:30 when we DRAGGED her out of the park! She was having so much fun. We couldn't believe it.

That being said, I guess you'll have to use your best judgement and try and guess your child. Maybe she will take a late nap? Maybe none at all.

We are going again next week (she's 3.5 now) and we're just assuming her party animal self will just stay up. :hyper::hyper::hyper::cool1:

We're taking our 2 year old on 10/2. She tends to do really well at staying up late if we give her things to do - like at friend's houses with toys, or watching fireworks over July 4th weekend - and only gets grumpy about bedtime if we're at home chilling or trying to go to dinner or something. I think at the parks she'll be good to go, but if not, my parents will be a short boat ride away to come get her.

We have taken under 3 year olds alot! Some of my favorite guests because they are FREE!

My kids ages 1, 2, and 3 on trips (a few repeats with the second kid) all had a good time. We would nap mid day and they always fell asleep at the party but usually after the parade for sure. They often woke for fireworks and have always wanted to wake up to see Mickey and Minnie towards the end of the night (usually 11ish). I think that my oldest didnt manage to stay awake for the villians show after the 2nd parade until he was 5 and even then he was watching from his stroller barely awake!

If you are looking for a special night wirh your oldest - get the sitter - but otherwise - take the stroller and enjoy what your little one stays awake for!

We took DS last year just after his first bday and had a great time! He stayed awake until about 10:30-11 then DH and I took turns sitting with him while the other parent did "fun" rides with older DD. It was fun bc he and DD had complimenting costumes (Kevin & Mr Fredricksen) so they got lots of attention together ;)

Hey that sounds like us. DD will nap -- only about 1 hr. if in stroller. Planning to go back to resort early afternoon with her for nap, hoping she will fall asleep and get a good long rest. She is generally happy while entertained which I am sure the party will provide. The other shoe always drops for us THE NEXT DAY. I can see where the next day we may need to be really flexible for her.

I think that based on all these good experiences, I'll take her in. I just didn't want to miss the whole party myself giving into a cranky kid by 8pm!
