Ignore the other paper thread when answering this...

DD goes to daycare. She's hacking up a storm, and has a slight wheeze and is on a nebulizer (albuterol). Other than that she acts perfectly normal...maybe a little clingy and more ornery. I always take her to school (my work) unless she has a fever. But am I being a bad mom?

If she has no fever, I would. We cough more at night. My thoughts are this, You will know in the AM what to do. If I am concerned enough, then I keep them home..The one time I did not, the school called within an hour...

Go with your heart..

You are not a bad Mom.

Wahoo, keep her home is in the lead!!!! She's not hacking so much now. The hacking could've been from the nebulizer treatment she had before bed.

My answer wouldn't be based on the hacking so much, but how productive it is, and if it kept her awake all night. I mean, if she didn't get a restful sleep, she's probably not going to be too happy in school.

my dad would tell us, unless your dying, bleeding or have a fever, you're going to school. :confused3

so tell the truth.. is it YOU who wants to stay home from work so you could Dis more?? :lmao: :surfweb: :happytv:

Medicate her and send her to school... but... be prepared to bail out of work early to take her home. The clingy and ornery reference (to me) is a sign she may be getting worse.

That said... she has no fever and isn't throwing up... good to go.

When my DD was in daycare I couldn't bring myself to send her if she wasn't feeling well even just a little bit. Luckily I'm set up to work from home several times a week so it wasn't a big deal.

She is in daycare. There isn't any reason to send a sick child to daycare, unless you have to. They aren't going to miss a vital lesson, etc.

Keep her home! I work in childcare, if she is clingy and ornery she still isn't 100%. It's not fair to the staff that cares for her, but most of all it's not fair to the other children. The other children need care too and one sick child takes up a tremendous amount of the staff.

I'd say, if she can keep up with the routine of the daycare, send her. If she needs more than "group" care, she should be home. As long as she is acting fine, there's no reason for her not to go...if we waited until all of our colds/coughs were gone, we'd all be missing a lot of work/school.

Personally - I would keep her home.

My DD was on a nebulizer twice, and even though the daycare would give it to her, I didn't take her while she was on the nebulizer. But...luckily, I work somewhere that is real flexible and allows me to stay home easily when my children are sick. If you work somewhere that isn't, then it's a more difficult decision for you to make. But if your work is flexible, than I would keep her home ::yes::

I would keep her home. Would you go to work like that? I dont send my daughter to school if she is sick, so I would not send her to daycare for every other child to get sick

:thumbsup2
While she may not be running a fever, her imune system is not what it needs to be to deal with all the things that go around a day care from all those kids that "aren't that sick". Keep her home if you can and let her rest, she will likely get over it faster, and as a preschool teacher I know that parents often need to go to work so I try not to send kids home but I feel bad for the kids when all they want to do is sit and "read" in the cozy area.

I voted Keep her home. It's the wheezing that concerns me. If she's not so wheezy this morning I would reconsider that and see how tired she is/how much sleep did she get, etc...

Hope she feels better:wizard:

::yes::

Sick kids don't want the teacher thay want you when they don't feel well.

My concern would be if something tipped off her coughing or wheezing even more while at school. Right now her immune system is trying to build back up and needs a while if she was very sick or sick for a long period of time. I have had the same thing your daughter has had for over 3 weeks and still get tired out and wheeze and take neb treatements 2x a day. She probably just needs time to rest and not run around playing and getting worked up.

If my kids are just coughing, and do not have a fever, I send them. I have not been called to pick them up from school, except once when the school secretary thought they had pink eye (they didn't.). If they are feeilng a little logy in the morning, they always perk up after they get up and get going.

Does your Dd have asthma? My kids don't, so if they were wheezing, I would be pretty concerned, and I would be bringing them to the doctor that day.

It sounds like your DD's daycare is at your work. I might see how she is once she gets up and around, and if you decide to send her, check on her often to see how she is doing.

Coughing=germ spreading...imho Daycare is a hard one because I know some kids that will sneeze and cough the entire fall/winter season... but it sounds like she has more of a cold. If it is an option I would keep her home. (clingy is the key word on how they are feeling at that age no?) Good luck and I hope she already feels better.

Is she using the nebulizer because she is ill?

If she is ill and doesn't have asthma or anything, then I would keep her home not only because she sounds like she is still ill and wants mommy, but also so it doesn't spread to the other kids and especially your daycare person. If he or she gets ill , what then.

GL and feel better, little one! :wizard:

PS You're not a bad mom. I have to get out my kid's school illness symptom list in order to "qualify" them to stay out of school. I second guess so I have to go by the book just to be on the safe side.

Wow, thanks for all the feedback. I sent her to school today, but I think we'll stay home tomorrow. She's not getting any better. She acts perfectly normal, just keeps wheezing. Its bronchiolitis, which I think is a precurser to asthma, which is why she is on the nebulizer (for the wheezing). She's only one.

Oh, and important tidbit I left out. I'm the daycare director at her school...:goodvibes
