Found out yesterday that I could move to SSR. looking at pictures of couse being new and all SSR looks wonderful. Then again so does OKW. If you had your choice between the 2 would would you go. The cost is the same at both places and we are 5 adults going so stuff for kids are not important. I dont think renting watercraft will be and issue this time because all of the daytime hours will be in the park. We are looking for nice pools good mousekeeping and nice CM's. ALso a nice place to eat would be nice but most of the meals will be breakfast in the rooom at the park for lunch and a lite snack in the room for dinner.

When are you planning to go?

The main pool at OKW will be closed (to add a slide) from September to end of the year. There are several other pools available at the resort, however.

Best wishes -

How is it that the cost is the same? With 5 adults you would need to be in a 2 bedroom, right? When I looked into staying this year, SSR would have been 180 points for my 5 night stay, but OKW was only 150 for the same sized (really bigger right?) unit for the same number of nights? Am I missing something?

Maybe they are paying cash via CRO.

Both resorts have pluses for your wants and traveling group. OKW has larger rooms, so more room for 5 adults to spread out. OKW also has a sit down restaurant and 2 snack bars.
At the prsent time, SSR has the better pool. SSR is also closer to DTD/PI for adult nighttime entertainment and numerous dining choices.

I have not visited SSR yet, but it will be nice and new. While it is slightly closer to DTD than OKW, I think it is pretty much a toss up, since you can walk there from either resort in about 12 minutes, or take the boat from either resort. We own at OKW and much prefer the size of units there to the plan and size of the other DVC properties, so for that reason, it is our preverence (especially for a group of adults). We love the huge living room and porch at OKW. If you aren't inclined to go to DTD for your meals, there isn't as much of an issue to stay a couple minutes closer. Also, SSR only has a food court for food service, while OKW has a very nice sit down restaurant as well as a couple of pool area sandwich places.

Yikes! It's so hard to tell someone else what they're going to like better. DH loves the peace and quiet at OKW, the "homey" feeling, and the ability to spread out in big accomodations-even though there are just 2 adults in a 1 BR. If it were me, I'd want to try SSR for the same reason as was already said-the newness. Also, it's closer to walk to my beloved Ghiardelli's. Matter of fact, I'm trying SSR for one night next time I go without DH!

My thought is it all depends on your preferences. Everyone has different tastes. Look up both resorts on web site and see what amenities each has to offer you and what you like about it. My opinion for adults is SSR closer to DD and PI .

One other thing to consider, since you have quite a few adults, is the pull-out bed - at SSR it was pretty darn comfortable compared to the OKW pull-out (the old fashioned type). We just got back from a few days at SSR and the pull-out was the newer model - firmer type with more support than the older type. We loved SSR and loved it's proximity and walking path to DD. The bus transportation seemed to us better at SSR also - more frequent). OKW was fun, too, but overall liked the feel of SSR better (and they have a slide at the main pool NOW :p )
