And why would I need that other than receiving only one magic band PP rather than two? One day in a Poly room followed by 3 at the Beach Club.... Earlier access to Dining or FP Plus not an issue.....

You can't link reservations from different resorts or room categories.

The reason behind linking reservations is so that separate reservations, booked under separate memberships but for the same resort, room size and booking category, can be flagged (for the room assigner) as one continuous stay. Linking makes it more likely that the room assigner puts the guest in the same room for the entire stay.
