Should I get another cat?

It has only been a week since I lost my little Kelly and I'm still hurting over it. But my poor dog is so sad and lonely. She follows me from room to room. When I come home she is so excited to see me and acts like she has been alone for weeks. I know she misses Kelly. They were very close. Should I start looking for another kitty? I know it will not take the place of Kelly, but it might help me and Auggie to start to heal. What would you do?

Auggie will have to go with me to pick it out if I get one.

Last night I posted that picture of the two of them in the chair and started crying all over again.

I just got a new kitty Thursday and she is such a joy. She gives my other kitty something to do. It took about a day for them to get use to one another. Now they are just fine!

I am sure that there is a kitty out there that would love to live with you and Auggie.

It won't replace Kelly, of course, but if you think you can handle it, I say go for it.

:sad1:

If your ready, and you realize a new cat won't replace your old one, for you or for your doggy, I say - go for it. Your right, it might help you heal, I hope it does :)

I know I can never replace my Kelly. But there are so many out there who need love too. I'm torn. In a way I feel like I will be "unfaithful" to Kelly if I rush out and get another kitty. Does that make any sense? I swear I'm starting to sound like a nut!

Makes sense to me :) It's not being unfaithful - it's just expanding your family :)

If you feel that you're ready, chell, then I think you should. No other cat will ever replace your Kelly:hug: but I know there's a special little one out there just longing to be in a loving, caring home such as yours. You'll know when the time is right, chell, and your new little bundle will certainly be one lucky kitty. :)

Chell, the last thing you sound like is a nut! A caring, thoughtful individual who is still hurting over the loss of a beloved pet is more like it!!

I say if you feel ready. go for it. No kitten is going to ever replace Kelly, but they can certainly carve out a new place in your heart!

I could never be without at least 2, if your ready go for it.

I had a kitten die this year. He was my baby! He died at only 6 months.

I did get another kitten, (These were full blooded Maine Coons and I had a health guarantee). I didn't think I would bond with another kitten but got him anyway.

He has become my baby! Hes so hyper and a true love. I will never regret getting him. I haven't forgotten my lost kitten but this one has helped me heal.

 I think that maybe getting a new one will be alot of good for you and your dog so that you can concentrate on something else and it may help you heal.

I think you should. You know there is no replacement, but I absolutely believe a new kitty could help you heal. We have always said we will wait awhile after losing a pet, but we never end up waiting more than a week. It really does make you feel better.

And it might help save a kitty who otherwise might not get a home. Sounds like a good thing for all involved. So sorry for your loss... I know how hard it is. :(

yes, they're are so many that need lovins'. I think Kelly would like this also.:D

I think you should, it's so hard when you lose an animal. Sometimes the best thing is to get another one right away, it sounds mean, but I don't think it is. They leave such a hole when they go. :(
