Crazy to book an extra night in middle of reservation?

Staying at the Poly longhouses on non-Poly points next month and have such a desire to stay in the tower that I’m about willing to grab a single open night in the middle of my stay just to experience it. Would cost me 20 points. My wife only half thinks I’m crazy for considering it. It’s crazy right? I shouldn’t waste 20 points right….right? Guys? Right? 😬😂

I think it's crazy but they're your points. If you have enough to burn then go ahead. Personally, I would just go visit the tower and try to stay there next trip...or maybe try to do a split and stay at both.

I've got an extra night in the middle of a reservation later this year costing me 14 points.

My situation is different in that I'm staying elsewhere, not at Disney and decided I couldn't be so close and not go (annual pass).

My other accommodation is also dirt cheap and for a different purpose than Disney parks, but I can get away.

If spending the points is a small issue, you could try getting a room at the beginning or end of your existing stay by waitlisting.

If you go ahead, enjoy!

I don't think you're crazy. (But that may not mean much). 20 points isn't much to satisfy your curiosity. I see it as a simple way to experience the tower without the hassle of officially changing rooms, and all the chaos that can bring. Doing it this way means you don't really have to move everything out of the longhouse - just whatever you need for the night. Just be sure to book that one night in names that aren't the same as the longhouse booking, don't link it to your MDE and use key cards for access instead of MagicBands.

Again, I like the plan.

I would only even consider that if i had extra points to book it and keep my longhouse resy and waitlist to replace at least one other night and hope it goes thru. I wouldnt do it if it was in the middle of the stay and had to move from og poly to island tower back to og poly. Way too much of a pita. I also wouldnt want to waste 20 points just to not get a full experience. That's $360 I can get by renting and spend on merchandise or some nice meals instead.

Since im local to California dvc still, only if I got lucky and got to stay at least two nights, i would then go crazy trying to use the holding points at vgc before the end of my use year. I would be really mad if I lost the points because I didn't get a reservation at vgc which is a real possibility so I wouldnt like this plan. We own this for years and years to come, I would just book another pit trip that year to experience it good and have time to soak it all in.

With the poly island tower having such limited inventory and Disney gobbling up the rooms for breakage a real possibility, I would assume waitlist wouldnt go thru and then I would have to worry about using those extra points or losing.

I also dont think 2 nights is enough to really get a feel for a resort, let alone 1 night, thats just stressful to me.

So no I would not do this unless I have points for the backup and at least two more nights went thru and plenty of time to cancel and bank if not. What if your room isn't ready until after 4 which does happen from time to time, then you have to be out by 11...

But they're your points so do what makes sense to you 😀

I'd do it in a heartbeat just for fun, but I'm not a point miser.

As I understand it, you'd be staying in a longhouse for the duration, not packing up, moving, packing up again and moving back. You'd just grab a few items and go have a night away within the larger vacation stay, right?

Sure! Sounds like fun! I like this idea so much that I might do something similar at some point. There are several resorts I would try for a night if I didn't have to commit to a full stay. I hate packing up to move. This sounds great.

Having seen the tower and the longhouses to me it would only be worth it if it had a great view, otherwise it’s honestly just like any of the new rooms they are starting to be duplicates of each other.

20 points IS 20 points and I AM a point miser but something about wanting to try that Poly tower is getting the best of me. It would be a resort view but could watch the fireworks from the viewing portals as something new and different. Wouldn't move any stuff at all...just toothbrushes and what not. It is kinda crazy and a big waste but then again what's the difference between that and paying about the same for a fireworks party to have a different view? If I could get two nights ay start or end I would move but there's only one available in the middle of my stay and it's within the 31 days so I'd have to be sure I wanna do this! Now there IS a one bedroom theme park view available on my first night but 63 points is a no go just for curiosity sake but I bet that would be a pretty awesome first stay at the Poly tower!

I visited all 4 portals in March when I was there. They are great and you have the chance of meeting some nice fellow DVC Members.

would you say worth it? Especially having seen it from basically every other vantage point around Bay Lake/7 Seas?

I'd spend 20 points on just about anything, lol.

I thought they were cool, especially how they were all themed uniquely. Only 2 have the good lake view, and 1 of those (I forget all the names) was especially awesome.

I guess it depends on how much time you see yourself using that space. I just visited each briefly but I love the concept.

Pretty great place for a morning coffee.

One other way of looking at it is that the 20 points gives you a chance to see if the PIT checks all the boxes for you. You may end up saving yourself an even more expensive trip in the future there if you don't find it worth it.

I like the way you think! lol

You do realize I'm a cheapo trying to justify a splurge

Ahh boo! Just went to check and someone grabbed it! Was there a few days now. Well that's on me for hemming and hawing. Will just keep an eye on it and see if anything similar or better opens up.
