Should I buy magic bands or save my money?

I am seeing now that offsite guests can buy bands and link to their tickets (we are staying at Dolphin in May). I am thinking it would be convenient for my memory maker and fastpass+ to be linked to the bands but I still won't be able to charge to the room.

We do Disney every year, so I will be using them again in the future. Just not sure it's worth $12,95 + tax each times 4 people....

And, if I do decide to purchase them, can I do it from home before I get there or do I have to buy in the park and link there?

Thanks!!!

I think Robo or Surferdave said the only other reason would be their convenience at the waterparks, besides MemoryMaker. Other than that, the tickets seem fine for now.

Okay, that's what I thought... I guess I am feeling a little left out..haha. But not sure if I feel like dropping $50 to be with the "in" crowd! lol :cool1:

MB's for resort guests are nice because they are more than a park ticket, they also unlock your resort room and you can use them to charge to your room. That makes them the only thing you really need to carry all day long. If an offsite guest can only use them to get into the park and to use for their fp's, then I'm not sure if they are worth it.

We're buying them, for the convenience. I'm the one that will end up holding all the tickets and quite frankly, having to look after 2 kids and pulling tickets out sounds like a pita, for myself anyway. Also, the appeal of being able to wear them in the water parks and not have to worry about pulling them out for every picture multiplied by 8 days in the parks, well, that was the deciding factor for me. I told the hubs to work an hour OT and it'll be paid for haha

I actually see even less reason to use them at water parks vs the major parks since FPs don't exist at the water parks. Use the ticket for park entry, throw it in your bag for the rest of the day because it's not needed. Am I missing something?

Probably missing the fact that you can charge things to your room with the Magicband. This way at a water park, you have something waterproof with you to make purchases. Don't have to find your stuff or visit a locker.

I dont have a problem with Disney tracking everything I do in their parks. However, as an offsite guest, I think Disney should PAY ME to wear a Magicband, not charge me $13.

We have actually seen people lose them in the wave pool at TL

I agree that is the biggest benefit for on-site guests, but this thread is about off-site guests. I don't see any benefit for an off-site guest to wear a MB at a water park.

People lose a lot of things in the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon.

We are always on the lookout for money in our local Six Flags wave pool. And we always find some!!!!

Back on topic, we are staying offsite in September and I am torn about getting bands, too. I think if we could pre-order and customize them with colors and names like on site guests, it would make it a good option for us. Then I think it would be neat for everyone to have their own special memorabilia and use it for entrance and fastpass.

If you really want to be able to wear them on your wrists then it may be a plus, but otherwise I wouldn't bother. You could save a lot of money by just buying a lanyard and putting everyones tickets on it and just scanning them for everyone.

Let me warn you now, the little snap does become looser the more you wear them which can lead to losing the band. I had used mine for a couple of trips and could feel the snap getting looser. Then one day I looked down and the band was gone. I think it may have fell off while washing my hands. In cases where you lose the band you'll need your pass for a backup anyways.

Just got one of the waterproof lanyards at BB. $6.95 and I can hold my ticket, ID, credit card, etc.

This may sound like a silly question but if I were to buy a magic band, when they link the card to the magic band do they allow you to keep the card or do they have to take it? If the magic band fell off the security of having the card as a backup would be nice. Also coming from the uk I would be having the ultimate 14 day ticket, are they able to link these tickets or can they only do it with tickets available to purchase in the US?
