Should guns get banned?

I'm assuming you're joking, simply because it's pretty clear that the Amendment you're referencing is already under attack by such nonsense as the "Patriot" Act (nauseating term for something so very unpatriotic).

I knew some people would get it. :teeth:

Police shouldnt have guns either!

Are you serious?? So when the criminals kill someone with THEIR gun, the cop can throw a candy bar at his head.

I hope you are joking.

My DH has guns-handguns, rifles, bullets are somewhere else. He had them for hunting, and now just for target shooting (he used to be a cop) and occasionally for protection. (they are NOT loaded-silly you for thinking!)

We have 3 kids and I feel safe knowing that we have them.

I don't think they will ever get full support in taking them away. I do believe in gun control-get the assault weapons off the street, and hold parents accountable when these troubled kids get to them.

Again, I don't argue too well, but you asked my opinion, and here it is.

Yes. bann guns. They will NEVER be in my house and there is NO use for them whatsoever. Guns are to kill. That's the only point behind them. Unlike the one person who ricidulously posted that airbags kill more people per year, at least airbags are trying to save lives. Guns are for killing. Nothing else.

No, they should not be banned. People should have the right to protect themselves, to hunt, and to use guns for whatever sport of their choosing.

I do not have a gun, neither does anyone of my immediate friends or family, however I plan on getting one in a few years. I want to become a homeowner, however the only areas in Central Va. that I could possibly afford are in high crime areas, I would not feel safe without a gun. If you banned them, I would not have access to a gun to protect myself, yet the murderers and robbers in the neighborhood would likely still have them. In that case, I'd probably break the law and keep a gun to protect myself. Making me a criminal just because I want security.

Another issue is the huge gun culture in the south, you can forget about a ban in the U.S., the Southern voting bloc would just kick the political arses of the left, and I do not think many politicians would risk their careers over this issue. There definitely are not enough of them to change the Constitution.

Using firearms to solve firearms is a bit like adding a can of propane to a burning house.

There is one core issue here which people always overlook.

Give me an Anschütz rifle (single shot, .22) and I could kill a class of infants before anyone could stop me. Give me a knife and the task is harder.

Think.

Do you want my evil task to be any easier than it already is?

Lovely thought there Rich. :sad2:

Why not make it easier and just download bomb making instructions off the internet? Then you could get them all at once.

These people aren't lovely. They'll use whatever means they have to attack whether you're armed or not and it's all we can do to make it hard for them.

Do you really believe that? Because I have to tell you I don't believe it for a second. If someone is stupid enough to break the law then they are to stupid to realize that the other person might have a weapon. And if they are smart - and lets face it some of these criminals are - they will target those that don't have weapons - the young college girl running on the track, the old lady carrying 2 grocery bags - the 10 year old boy crossing the street - the bank lobby with a sign on the front that say, "No concealed weapons allowed." I don't think for one minute that a criminal would wonder or care if the other person has a gun - because lets face it they think they have the upper hand and an over abundance of control issues.

I'm confused. First you state that smart criminals will go after easy targets(why are they easy?) then you say that you doubt they would care if the other person has a gun.

Can you see the reason for my confusion?

IMO, if a criminal walked into a 7-11 to rob it and saw the clerk was openly carrying a firearm, do you think they would still try to rob the place?

I don't.

I've seen this scenario plenty of times on police videos and such. Usually, the clerk is killed in a situation where he might have lived if he/she would have just complied.

Yes on of the functions of a gun is to kill. On that same line of thinking lets ban daggers (double edged knives meant to kill), lets ban bows and arrows(broadhead arrows with multiple razor sharp edges meant to maximize bleeding), heck lets ban baseball bats you can kill people with those, how about chainsaws can do some serious damage with those.

I have already stated that some guns need to be banned, I truly believe that, but why do you want to take my shotgun from me? I dove, duck, goose and quail hunt and enjoy it greatly. Deny me my right to the things I enjoy so you can feel safe. If I had my way all assault weapons and fully automatic weapons would disappear from private owners tomorrow. I freely concede that. And although I do own handguns, I do not carry them with me and they are safley lock away with the ammunition locked away in another place. If the majority said no handguns and the law passed I would ge rid of mine. However I will fight with every thing I have to keep my sporting rifles and shotguns and anyone who will not concede that is being beyond reasonable and bordering on the fanatic.

Right now it is so easy I could probably obtain a hand gun illegally if I wanted to.

Ya think? Do you know someone that could get you one? I sure don't and I'm not about to go looking for someone who can "hook me up" either.

It's harder for me, Mr. Law Abiding Citizen to get a hand gun than it is for Mr. Joe Drug Dealer.

And guess what my plans for using my gun are?

I'm not talking about the clerk reaching for a gun under the counter. I'm talking about having it in an underarm quickdraw holster *in plain sight*.

I really think a criminal (that's not all hopped up on drugs) would keep right on going to find an easier target.

Or, if you're dumb enough to pull a gun on someone, would be up for the challenge...

How many and what kind? Gun show this weekend as there is just about every other weekend around my area. Buy used guns from liscensed dealers for cash and usually no paperwork takes place.
