I was just thinking about that one. At our open house night, I went to my DDs classroom to request a parent teacher meeting. DD has some serious issues and I always try to start out the year with a ground rules type meeting with her teachers. Basically, it works out how her accomodations are addressed, and how to wean her off those accomodations (she has real problems writing legibly, and can give oral responses or use a keyboard). Anyway, I had been waiting about 10 minutes for a break to ask the teacher for the conference, when a parent came in with his child. Apparently, this was the "shining star" of the classroom. DD's teacher immediately stopped her conversation, and said "What a great daughter you have Mr. xxx! If all my kids were just like her I'd have a really easy job!"
Now I'm a glass half full kind of person, and I know my DD has other good qualities to counteract her difficulties, but that was really hard to take. I started to cry on the way home, thinking that no one would ever say that about my child.
At our conference, I brought it up with the teacher, just to let her know that it hurt, and that I know my DD and several other students heard it too.
