Shoes for the wide-footed gal?

So I've gotten some great ideas here about different shoes and sandals for Disney trips. My last trip I was in agony and I've been on a quest for the perfect sandals since last month for my July trip. (Yes, I'm an advanced planner!)

I've looked into some of the ideas, but the biggest stumbling block I'm hitting is the width issue. I have yet to find sports sandals that come in wide widths for women. My foot is a 6 1/2 D and I also have a high instep.

I got a pair of Keens today - they are open toe (won't do a closed toe in July!) and they're okay, but I think they might be more of my water ride day type of shoe. While I was at the store, I tried on several pairs of Merrells and was so sad - they were all too narrow. Going up to a big enough size for the width made them too long.

I also got a pair of Eccos from Zappos.com that I might stick with; but I'm still just not feeling like I've got it right.... and am ending up very indecisive in the process.

Back in 2001 for our honeymoon, I had the BEST sandals ever - they were Easy Spirit - and my feet NEVER hurt once that whole week. They no longer make those wonderful sandals and had I known, I would have bought like 5 pairs or something crazy like that to last me most of my life. But I digress...

What walking sandals have worked for you other wide footed women?

I'm a 5 1/2 Wide. I feel your pain in the shoe dept. Having a short, wide foot is agony as far as shoe shopping is concerned.

Have you tried crocs? I finally bought a pair and they are wonderful. They are actually wide enough for my feet. My sandals--I got them in the "Boys" dept. Boys shoes are wider than women's.

I have to second the crocs. I not only have wide feet, I also have thick feet and crocs are about the only things that fit anymore. I got 2 pair yesterday for our trip. I got a pair of Mary Janes and a pair of Baja.

I'm an 11W and I love my Tevas! I know that when you look at them it says regular width, but I believe that is misleading...they are plenty wide.

I wore them in September along with some body glide and I had no blisters at all!

Good luck in your shoe quest!

I too have a wide foot a 10Wide to be exact and it is sooo hard to find good shoes. So over the years I have tried everything. Nikes, New Balance, Rockport but everything left me with blisters and hot spots on my feet. It was so bad that any chance I got I would take my shoes off wherever I was. But I have found the secret (atleast for me) I wear CROCS!! I know they are hiddeously ugly but I wear them with Thorlo blister socks and I have gone 12 days on vacation and I am skipping to the airport on the last day!! It truly is amazing how they really work. I know people probably look at me like "I can't believe you wore those in Public" but I now can enjoy my whole vacation without worry of feet problems. So good luck with whatever you decide!:cheer2:

I once bought a men's pair of Tevas, and the width was nice. The arch wasn't in the right spot, though, so I got a bit achey.

I was told today at REI (member's only garage sale event) that Chicco makes widths in their sandals! They have very cute sandals, so I'm going to be looking out for those next time I'm in the market. :)

I have a pair of maryjane style Crocs, and they rub a bit on my feet; they don't fit like they are supposed to, b/c of my hobbit-like feet, LOL. But because my feet are so shrimpy yet wide, I couldn't handle getting the Caymans, because I felt they would make my image of my feet look even worse. Silly reason, but just wanted to put it out there that the mary janes aren't necessarily the best style of crocs, if you go searching for them.:upsidedow

Hmmm.... I wonder if I could find something perfect if I went to a shoe store and tried on boys' sandals. Perhaps that could be an option...

And, yes, I know I keep hearing about Crocs, but gee, there just so unattractive. I MIGHT consider the flip-flop version. I guess I'm just stubborn in that perspective and need to get over it!

I have wide feet and am also a diabetic and usually take 3 or more pairs of shoes with me to prevent blisters and aching feet. I got a pair of CROCS and thought they were a bit unattractive as well. I wore them a few times when I was going to be on my feet a lot and found them to be perfect! On my last Disney cruise I got Disney crocs and think they give it a new kind of attraction. hahaha I love them. Now I take two pairs of crocs for color choice and that is it.

Crocs are comfy and it takes a lot to get your feet to start hurting in them. I have a job where Im on my feet for 12 hours at a time. The only thing is that I have the ballet style ones and for standing they are great - for walking, not so great. I still have to say Burks are the best. I have a pair that I wore for over a year (crushed a toenail and was too skeeved to put on socks - short version was I wore sandals until it healed). I had a couple of people that have back problems and foot problems ask me about them. I said they were ok. THEN when I went back to wearing shoes - holy smokes! They are WAY comfy. If they made Crocenburks I would so buy them. The best of both worlds. lol.

Last WDW vacation, I lived in my Mickey crocs....and for once no blisters. Since then I have bought the Alice crocs and the Mamouth crocs (winter, fur lined) and love them. I will never go to WDW without my beloved Crocs. ( I did by the maryjane crocs and they do not fit the same...I never wear them!)

PS. make sure to buy them plenty big...the people who have a "rubbing" problem, bought them too small.

I love the crockenburks idea. Perhaps you should send that in to them?

Me, too!! I definitely got my dad's basketball/football player feet. :rotfl: I can usually find shoes that fit, but it's finding cute shoes that feel good that I have trouble with. :confused3 I've found a lot of cute shoes that almost fit recently, and I've just been dealing...and wearing band-aids! Haha!! I'm a shoe maven with giant feet! What a curse!

Those are probably the only Crocs I think I could get myself to wear in public. I've heard a lot of the same feedback, though. Bummer. I love maryjanes in general. Anyone tried just the little plain slipper Crocs? I think they may have little keyholes on the top.

OK, I just looked at the Crocs site. It's called Prima. Anyone tried those? Also, Alice looks cute. They look like real mary janes, as opposed to Mary Jane. Anyone tried those?

I thought (think) Crocs are ugly too. My feet have become wide (10W now) since pregnancy and none of my shoes fit. I bought the regular crocs and the new Capri flip flops. Man, are they comfortable. My Daughter has the Ariel and also Dora and hubby has Mets! Everyone loves them. I don't care how ugly they look, lol.

I did buy a new pair of wide sneakers from Zappos, I hope they fit nice.

I too have hated the look of Cocs and refused to buy any, but after much debate have decided to buy the Croc flip flops for me, going to try "capri canvas" style and for my husband I have convinced him into trying their "Tikali" which believe it or not look like regular mens sandals! Also if you order more than $100 you get free shipping. Think I will order "scutes" for the kids and be done with it! If anyone has tried the Tikali's please let me know how they feel!. If you have not checked out Crocs.com you should click on products then footwear and you will be shocked at all the styles they have that you never see in the stores. They even have really cute heels now! for those who try to do Disney in Stilletos! LOL

If you have wide feet the Croc Capri may be too narrow. The Athens fits wide feet much better.

I have a pair of the Alice crocs and I love them!:thumbsup2

I recently bought three pairs of Crocs for myself from Disneyshopping online (big sale) but have not wore them yet. My foot is very wide plus I tend to swell a lot during the warmer months. I bought two pairs in my normal shoe size and yes, they are wide enough! I bought the next size up as well... so when I swell (and I will) I have an extra pair. I have good luck with Nike Wides (bought from Kohls). I also can often find cheap wide white canvas shoes (tennis and clog type that ties) at Payless.
