Shape up before you sail!

Count me in for trying to lose weight before the summer starts and we head down to Florida--my DS and I leave on June 5 and don't return until July 5--we'll be on board the Magic June 6 for a week and then spend the following three weeks at WDW and Universal.

I was down about 40 lbs. before last summer's vacations started--10 nights at DL followed by 10 nights at WDW. That was the start of a six-month eating-fest.

I'm determined to get those same 40 lbs. off by the time I board the plane and look forward to the fact that I've actually got clothing to pull out of the closet that will fit. I'm a firm believer in the power of Weight Watchers--it's just a matter of sticking to the program.

Good luck to everyone. Here's hoping we can all achieve our goals--and don't end up putting it all back on during our trip :) .

I just joined the Y again this week. I have been three days in a row now. I have to lose about 30 pounds, too. We cruise in May and I know that I won't lose it all by then, but I am hoping for maybe half.

I am a diabetic and have high cholesterol (hereditary) and had been doing pretty well with keeping those two things under control until the beginning of December and started eating everything in sight. Bad girl.

I am serious now about doing things right so that I can feel better and have more energy. Our oldest daughter is a registered dietician, as well as a work out nut, so she is really on me now.

So...needless to say I am with you all too. I will read each day to see how everyone is doing.

I also have a WiiFit. I got it last spring at the same time I found out that I was to have major neck/spine surgery. I had 5 neck vertebra cut open and titanium bridges placed. This allowed the compression of my spine (a birth defect that was finally diagnosed) to be relieved. But the recovery definitely messed me up. Now that I have read how wonderful everyone feels the WiiFit is I will have to add that to the Y classes and workouts.

Well, here's hoping we all reach our goals. Keep it up girls.:grouphug:

Have you checked out couch to 5K program? It a great way to get there. There is a training schedule. I think it's done in 5 weeks time frame. Many have great success with it. Good Luck. You can do it!:cheer2:

Actually yes I did find that (from another post) and printed it out and have it in my workout bag! The workouts that are listed are very doable for me!

Count me in too! I just told DH that I want to lose 10 pounds before our cruise in May. I haven't been able to exercise much at all this month, as I have had one illness after another. :sad1: I am hoping this latest bug is on its way out of here very soon!

For me, exercise is key. Plus it sure will help firm everything up a little before I don a bathing suit! I am a 30-something Mom, and no worries, I won't be wearing a bikini either! ;)

I'm also in for the "Lose for the Cruise"!!
I have alot to take off by our 7/25 sailing, but anything I can shed will make me happy.
I started right after the new year with Curves and watching how I eat. I don't want to call it a diet though. I am down 12 as of this morning and I am very excited about it. We bought a Wii fit yesterday and I can't wait to try the Hula Hoops, I have heard it's a blast!
Good luck with everyones goals!
GO STEELERS in the Super Bowl tomorrow!!!!! Black and Gold all the way!:cheer2:

I just ordered the Winsor Pilates DVD set. I plan on doing them every other day. Has anyone used these before? Do they work??? I am current at 135 pounds and I am 5' 7. I really want to tone and slender and concentrate on my abs.

When asked about shaping up, I say the 'round is a shape'. We do tend to try to walk at least 3 miles a day, plus climb stairs. Try climbing up from deck one, to the top...it's a workout, but it makes room for a Palo's chocolate souffle.;)

I like your logic :thumbsup2

This is a continuation of the thread started on the DCL board. It is a place to post your goals/progress of anyone who is trying to lose a few pounds before facing a whole day in a bathing suit at CC:beach: ! Let's support each other and remind ourselves what we are working towards!

I'm hoping to lose at least a dress size by the time we sail the beginning of April. I've been doing at least 30 mins of cardio a day and not seeing any results. So I'm going to kick it up a notch and try the 4 Day Diet plan. I've heard good things about it and if I can get through the first 4 days I think I'll be able to stick with it. I got the book today, will grocery shop tomorrow, and start on Monday!

Hi everybody! :wave2: Count me in! I am going on my first cruise as a graduation present this October, and I really would like to shape up before we go :) I have been working out and watching what I eat for a few weeks now. I was sick with a cold last week and lost a few pounds, so that gave me a head start. Losing your appetite is the only thing good about being sick :rotfl2: I hope you all reach your goals for your trips! Good luck! :grouphug:

Actually, that is not true. Studies have been done, and statistically, when comparing two study groups, one that watches faithfully what they eat and never exercises and the other that exercises faithfully, and does not watch their diet, the second group almost always has the greater success. Tehcnically speaking, exercise, is the most important component to weight loss.

Now, I understand what you mean, as my sister and I are foodies, and we just love food and trying new foods, and baking, etc. But, in my own personal experience, the exercise is definitely A#1.
Technically speaking and for most people exercise is #1 and key for most people. I would have been on the "negative" side of that study though. LOL Seriously- I tried everything (low-fat, ww, etc.) PLUS exercising atleast 4 days a week- usually more and couldn't lose an ounce. For years. In 2003 I tried lowcarbing since it was working for my sister and simply cutting out sugar and eating real foods (instead of processed foods- like eating fresh veggies, meat/chicken/fish/etc.) I lost 80lbs in just over 6mo. And I wasn't exercising. Yes I did have more energy after the first few weeks- slept better and had more energy so with 3 young kids at that time I did end up DOING more, but no regular exercise like what people would consider exercise. Unless running after kids and being a bit more active with them is considered exercise? But only a bit more- I was pretty active with them before, it was just easier with more energy. LOL
For me- what I ate was key... everyone is different. I have a friend who is losing weight like crazy and can still have chocolate often- I'm so jealous!!!!!!! I wanna be like that. LOL but alas, I am not. :(

Last time I lost 20lbs in the first month (primarily water weight I'm sure- as I hardly drank anything ever- maybe half a diet coke per day and THAT'S IT- then when lowcarbing drinking tons of water every day) and I'm on track to do that again. I've lost over 18lbs already!!! (and almost lost my double chin- I lose in my face first always! LOL and have gone down 3 sizes in my jeans already! Woohoo go me LOL) and only need to lose a lb and a half by Feb 4th to do the same 20lbs in a month as last time. After that though (last time- and I assume will happen the same this time- atleast I hope I do as well as last time!) my weightloss did slow down quite a bit after the first month- about 2lbs a week on average. IF I'm able to "copy" what I did back then... I should be around 135lbs (hope hope hope!) by the time we cruise end of May- so that's what I'm working towards. I'll probably gain a bit on the cruise as I'm sure I won't be completely lowcarbing the entire time- some of the food just can't be passed up! LOL But I'll continue back on track afterwards so I can feel comfortable with my body this summer and not so embarrassed to be in shorts and swimsuit. :)
(ps. last time my goal was 120lbs and I ended up getting down to 110lbs. Before you freak out- I'm only 5'2 and very small boned. I still had some meat on my bones -especially in butt and thighs LOL- even at 110lbs. I weighed only 95lbs when I got married at age 20 and even THEN I still was nowhere near what someone would consider "skinny". I had a "bubble butt" and muscular thighs. I was NOT rail thin even at 95lbs! LOL
My goal again is 120 and if I stay there and not go lower- I'll be happy. But that will take longer than May 30th! The closer I get to goal the slower it comes off- ofcourse. I'm feeling pretty confident that I can do this again and last time I went off plan -ie: went back to super high carbing/junk food and chocolate! LOL- due to a few things like quitting smoking/surgery/etc. and slowly but surely gained all the weight back over the past 5 or so years. Part of my problem when I'm not lowcarbing is that I don't get enough sleep, I don't eat except one meal a day- usually supper, and I don't drink hardly anything at all every day. When I'm lowcarbing I drink lots of water, my insomnia all but clears up completely and I get more sleep, AND I eat small meals all day which revs up my metabolism. But this time -not just for weightloss but for a healthier me- I'll continue to eat healthy FOREVER. I mean it this time. so say me. LOL)

I've lost 4 lbs this month. For me I have to take it slow. I have a bad habit of going all out to begin w/ and then I crash and burn. I'm really hoping that bribing myself each month I meet my goal will help. Good luck everyone!!

As mentioned on the other thread, I am doing the Slim Fast Optima plan combined with 3 - 4 hours of aerobic exercise a week (step aerobics, rhythm boxing, and running on the Wii balance board). I lost 7 pounds in January, and I am shooting for losing 40 more by Thanksgiving. I think (hope) I can do it!!

Good luck to everyone! I'm down 20 and hopefully more! I exercise at lunch-so no more time for the big meal-and then watch what I eat at dinner. I usually have one sugar free cookie as my "sweet treat". Hopefully, more summer clothes will come out before we leave so I won't have to hold up my pants at dinner!

Today is the first day of the full diet. I have been pretty good about excercising so hopefully the diet will help melt the pounds off. Now, I just have to stay on it. I HATE :crazy2: veggies so diets are torture for me :(

Is there some way that a moderator can merge the thread from the cruise board to this thread? It's a shame to lose all those posts.

I dodged a bullet this weekend! :thumbsup2 I had too many snacks on Saturday, and then on Sunday, DH and my boys wanted to go to the new Stevi B's pizza buffet that just opened. I ate way too much pizza, and way too much dessert. Plus, I didn't exercise all weekend. But amazingly, when I stepped on the Wii Balance Board this morning, my weight was DOWN from Friday. I know I got lucky, and it makes me all that much more motivated to exercise. Obviously, it is helping a lot! I hope everyone else is hanging in there (and that we didn't lose everyone with the move)?!?!

DH and I got on the scale this morning, and NEITHER of us were very happy! So, today is Day 1 for us. I am hoping to lose 10-15 pounds by May 1st. Now if only I could get over this darn cold so I can start doing some exercise....
