SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

I agree that the end of the new (Palm) wing is a long walk to the buses... but so is the walk from the end of the old section. I'm always confused when people say it's closer to everything in the old (Magnolia) wing:confused3

Looking at the map, I have to agree. For some reason, I guess it just seems closer to everything. Maybe it's just that the old section is closer to the pools and many of the food places. I just thought so for a long time because of the hike from the new section to Evergreens. But since that place sucks now, and we don't go to the pools, I never go over there anymore anyway.

:scared1: OMG that looks HUGE!!! I had no idea it was that big!

If I've understood correctly, aren't the room layout/type based on your rank? Dad retired as an E-9 I believe, CMSGT. I'm hoping for the double sinks with a separate toilet "room"!

Totally agree. We never go to that side of the resort either. Wished Evergreens didn't suck. It would be really nice to have someplace to go for an adult beverage if it wasn't too late. I know Evergreens has adult beverages, just nothing we want or would trust them to make (since the food is meh, they'd probably screw my fav drink up too) and the atmosphere stinks. I think I've said that last time we were there the one night we attempted Evergreens it was karaoke night. It was loud beyond reason and totally empty. We'd have stayed if we could have held a conversation.

Thanks Jusero for the map.. Wow it is bigger than I thought.

So no rooms are on the first floor.. For some strange reason I hate first floor rooms.. I always like to be at least one level up.

When you make a request for a certain area to stay in, did you do it at time of booking or just prior to your stay

Do all rooms now have flat screen tvs?

We always stay in room 5122( in fact everytime we book they say you still want room 5122?!)....love the privacy and the walk really isn't bad at all.....neither is the walk to the pool and at night if you go out the exit right there, you can stand on the steps and see a lot of WISHES!!:thumbsup2

Oh and yes there are first floor rooms.....by the pools.....we used to get them when the kids were with us....I don't like them either...I like having my private balcony!

There are first floor rooms in both wings. On the map 1101 etc are ground floor. Two of the photos show the ground floor patios. We like to be off the ground too:)

The rooms are not based on rank. They are all the same ... except the suites. It's just the price that is adjusted for rank. If you want the separate bath layout, ask for the new section. And you can make a room request when you make your ressies.

There are first floor rooms in both sections. When you make your ressies, let them know what you want (or don't want). They try really hard to get you what you want. And, yes, they all have flat screens now.

I don't like first floors either. I remember we had one one year when my brother came with us. One of his kids left the patio door open in the morning and a couple of ducks just came waddling in. Could you imagine if it had been those wild turkeys that had come in? Not to mention all the other Florida critters.

Yeah we had a cute little lizard on our wall above the one bed and a baby scorpion in the bathroom! That was the last time we got first floor! :)

Well, I have just lost my mind. We just got back from 4 days at WDW, we stayed at pop and my MIL and SFIL went and made our lives miserable, so I have booked to go back 8/31-9/3 and booked SoG with the 2 specials they have. We got 3 nights for $209.

I just hope DH is ok with this. We had just discussed going to the beach, but I want a WDW do over. It is the week after his birthday, so I will have to let him decide.

Since there has been no update yet about whether there will be an extension of the Salute tickets, we better get in another trip while we can :thumbsup2

I'm guessing I can go back and make rooms requests after I talk to him about it?

You haven't lost your mind; do what makes you happy. Under the circumstances, I'm sure your DH will be okay with the vacation do over. The SoG specials are great....you can't beat those rates ! Enjoy !:)

No, you sure can't. Pop was going to be about $241 for 3 nights and even with parking, SoG is cheaper this time. Just have to see what DH says about it.

Where you at Shades recently?? I checked in someone who had that room request and we had a little conversation about why-it made sense ;)

do what I do - book first, ask later.

That's exactly what I did, I just need to know its what he wants to do, so if it isn't I can get the deposit back. He was tired after duty yesterday, so I will hit him up again tonight. He just doesn't know I've booked yet...lol

I'm so glad to have found this thread. We will be there August 20-25 and I'm going stir crazy waiting! It's been over 3 years since we've been to SOG last and I can't wait!!!

Booked our rooms for September, got our flight, rental car and just need to get our Salute tickets. I'm so excited that I can't stay off of these boards!

Thanks all for the great info!

Nick

I know everyone here will understand and since I'm about to bust, DH passed his PT test this morning, so he gets to re-enlist! I am so proud and so excited, we may just move this reservation over to WL, if I can get DH excited about this trip, I guess he wasn't because he was worried about this test.
