~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
sorry your day wasn't what you expected yesterday!
hope you can figure out a good solution so you can get your new couch!
if the store with the good salesperson can't get the couch, maybe ask for a different salesperson at the store that you found it at.
really looking forward to your new project...you seem to be very cryptic about it :confused3
hope today will go great! :goodvibes
So sorry shopping was stressful.
I can't wait to see the next bag. I have lots of thoughts about my next project swimming around now to get started LOL.
Beware... Furniture boringness ahead...
OK - so the problem with this - we went to 4 different stores yesterday... at 2 of the stores, the service we received was meh, at one of the stores, the service we received was phenominal, and at the last store (where the furniture we want is located) the salesman drove me absolutely batty and I couldn't wait to get out of there! :eek: So, I really want to contact the store where we received great service and see if they are able to order us these pieces - and if they can come close to the price at the other store. Because, working in retail, I greatly value good service - and I feel it's important to patronize a local store... especially when the sales person went out of their way to really help us find exactly what we wanted (even though what we want isn't exactly what our budget will allow). So, after coming to our senses last night and really looking at our budget again, what's realistic for our family and our lifestyle, we were able to be a little make a better decision. I think. All I know, is that I never want to furniture shop again. :rolleyes1
D~
If you have the brand of the sofa, you can just look at the manufacturer's website. They all pretty much have one. You can get the information about the model numbers and pieces you want there. Then call your local stores to see if they can get the pieces for you. If they can't, then order them from North Carolina. We've done that very successfully several times. Saved a lot of money and were very happy with the service we received. I can give the name of the place we've used if you want to check prices.
Furniture shopping does stink:headache: They never seem to have what you are looking for.
Can't wait to see what your new bag is:woohoo:
You could always come visit - I'm happy to take you to High Point to all the furniture places :idea: Just think - you can tell Josh you're coming to visit to get the sofa and we could hit as many fabric stores as we can find - you can just ship the fabric back with the new sofa so it won't cost any extra to get it home!!!! :woohoo:
You are all so great!!! I just wish I could kiss you... OK - maybe not - but you know what I mean. ;)
I really appreciate you all tolerating my whining about furniture...
I picked the girls up from school today, and took them to the furniture store with me - and I am glad I did. We went to the store with the creepy guy salesman (TG he wasn't there) and I had a lady helping me... She was very nice (though not as nice as the lady at the other store).
I almost bought a Flexsteel sofa and glider recliner - it was an excellent price (and leather), but it was a floor model - black (would have preferred brown) and there was no love seat (they could order it, but it would cost more than the sofa/recliner put together)... I was so close to buying it, that she even put the "sold" sign on it.
So, then I took the girls over to the set that we originally came to look at... We all sat in it and agreed that it was more comfortable, the color was right and it was just more our style... Not to mention, in our price range.
In the end, I purchased the sofa and loveseat... We also added on the recliner - but after we got home, Josh told me to call tomorrow and take it off... He doesn't want it until he can sit in it and decide for himself (which is what I thought). So, that brings the price way down to something really realisitic for us.
I was going to buy the cute matching pillows - but at $65 each - I decided to pass. Then, the sales lady told me that I can buy it in yardage.... OK - I know yardage and I can definately make my own pillows... It's $69/yd (on sale)... Ummmm... Sorry - can't do that. So, I am officially on the hunt for some cute pillow fabric.
Anyways... Not sure when it will be delivered yet - I still have to pay for the last 1/3 of it, and they only deliver near my house twice a month... So, it might be a few weeks??
Back to sewing tomorrow and more trip related stuff. :)
I think you should wait until you can go to Mary Jo's (and a couple of other places near there with decorator fabrics) this summer - talk about "cute pillow fabric" choices!!!!
Excellent idea... I wish I could find a picture of the pillow fabric - I'd have you all hunting for me. ;)
Actually.... I found it... So, if anyone ever sees this fabric (not the chair - although - it looks super cute in person).... Maybe a $10/yd price range... let me know. :) And just so you know... It's hard to see, but there is a sage green color in this fabric - that would look so awesome with my walls.
And I also found pics of the sofa/loveseat... I hope you all don't mind that I post them... I ordered them in a chocolate brown microfiber. We decided that we didn't want leather, and Allison has very sensitive skin - so this was the only one that didn't feel bad for her... So, just imagine it darker brown. :) Please note the reiquired "divider" on the love seat - one option Josh and I wouldn't budge on, so the girls don't ever have to touch. LOL
OK - I promise, I am done boring you all with my tales of furniture... well, as long as you promise to keep your eyes open for that fabric for me. ;)
D~
Yay D~ happy you were able to get what you wanted! love the look of the set! funny about the divider....but they can still pick on each other from afar..."she's looking at me" "She's breathing on me" sorry had a flash back to my childhood with my brother :lmao::lmao:
love the chair fabric too....would make very pretty pillows!
Quickly...I know how much you love vintage machines so I had to share what was in my email this morning...
http://www.hsn.com/todays-special_x...&cm_mmc=EMAIL-_-TS2-_-EMTSa20120126-_-6584295
I tried to post a picture instead of the website...but it wouldn't let me...go figure! No it is not really a vintage machine but it does kind of have the look and feel. If I were in the market for a new machine I might just have to get it... just for the looks!
Nini
Just a quick drive by "hi" so you know I'm still alive. Two shirts out of 6 (or possibly 7) are done and after making cupcakes on Tuesday and carrot cake yesterday I don't have to make another cake until Saturday's party. Off I go.....
Glad you found some furniture :)
Thanks for the reminder Lisa... We were actually looking for a divider with bullet proof mirrored glass - but we are told the manufacturers don't make anything like that??? :confused3 I don't understand why - I am sure that parents all over the world would snatch them up like hotcakes. :rolleyes1
Ooooh Nini - That is an ultra cool machine. :) I love how they used their original Singer decals on it, great move on Singer's part to appeal to the vintage market of people that are afraid to fix them up. I just wonder how well it sews though? Singer doesn't have the best reputation for their newer machines, so I am a bit curious. I did look all over in the description if it does embroidery (it doesn't)... I just need the PE770 to take on a vintage look and I would be forever in heaven. :lovestruc Thanks for sharing the link with me - I loved looking at it. If you decide to get it, you must let me know, because I would love to see more real life pictures. :surfweb:
I just put all my fabric in the wash for my next bag. I am going to work on the applique this morning, while the fabric is washing and drying. This should be a fairly quick bag, since the applique isn't that detailed.
I also want to work on Alli's UP! wallet this weekend. I did purchase fabric for the Dug portion of it - so hopefully it will work out the way I want it to?
I am still debating on whether I should make an AK bag. I have had my AK shoes hiding in the back of my closet for a week - wouldn't you know it - the ONE time DH decides to go searching through there, he finds my zebra shoes. ACK!! I knew I should have hidden them in my sewing room. :confused3 Since I am home all day - I plan to wear them to break them in a bit.
I am also still debating on making another Toy Story bag - I really want to, but I am not sure what I want to do. That applique was huge and very time consuming, and I am just not sure I want to go through all that work again??? I guess I will probably save these two bags for last, and get everything else done that I need to get done first... Like all the appliques for our t-shirts... Which I still haven't decided on. :confused3
That looks like an awesome machine!
Looks great, and I love the fringe foot. For the price I think I'll just see if I can get the foot... although, it does have a 'cut and hem foot attachment' that gives you the look of a serged seam...so, if I was getting a machine for a new sewer I 'might' consider it...I just wish it was made of metal instead of plastic!
D~ I know you will get a kick out of this...they just had a mini presentation of the machine by someone who probably doesn't even know what a sewing machine is! She showed the roller foot and said it gave you great 'rolled hems'!! So funny!
They are really banking on the nostalgia of the 160 years...and are even going to try and say that it is the same design as the Featherweight! (actually it is designed after the Featherweight...but NOT the SAME design) I know semantics!
Nini (who really needs to get to work if I plan on paying for TWO trips in the next 12 months!)
Is it little like the Featherweight? Hmmm... Maybe I should watch that video?
Are those the same girls you're taking to WDW for 10 days? :rotfl2:
Glad your furniture story has a happy ending. :dance3:
I don't think it was on Andrea's PTR, I think it was someone else's where I mentioned my favorite story of brotherly love was when my older son was in the back of our minivan cupping his hands and trying to get all of the air for himself so my younger son couldn't breathe. :sad2:
Kids . . . gotta love 'em cuz you're not allowed to shoot 'em!
Love the furniture. Love the divider and I just don't know why it doesn't come with bulletproof glass.
My dad expanded our house thru the roof to get my sister and I away from each other. One of the good things about having a general contractor/engineer for a dad.
I'm at home all day today. Unless I decide to walk to the store (which I could do, but it looks like rain outside) - The car DH drives (which used to be my car and is a cute red 4 door Alero) has decided it likes to live dangerously and will cut off at random times. It especially likes to do so in stop & go traffic and at traffic lights.
We took it to our mechanic (who is fabulous, so I know he's not the problem) a while back and the code that was coming up was the spark plugs. Okay - fixed that. DH didn't tell me that it was still having issues until he called at 7:15 on Tuesday morning to tell me to come get him & P as they were on the side of the road. Lovely.
We had it towed to the mechanic (thank goodness for AAA) and this time the code that was coming up was a fuel injector. He couldn't get the part until Wednesday, but that was okay as DH is off on Weds this month. We arranged to pick the car up last night and pay on Friday (again, love our mechanic, because $225 was NOT in the budget for car repair this week). Picked up the car and headed home. . . I noticed DH wasn't behind me anymore as my phone rang. Yup. Car died at the light. He finally got it going again and headed back to the mechanic's. I turned around and headed back too . . . I almost had to push him the last little bit (you have to pull a U-turn to get to the shop and the car cut off as he pulled around) but he made it.
So, he has my car to go to work (he works 45 minutes away) and Phalen and I will just stay home. DH was able to go in a little late, so he took Finn to school and a friend will bring him home (would have kept him home too, but it's PJ & Pancake & Playball day at school and he didn't want to miss out!).
I hate car problems.
Sorry about your car -- I just wanted to chime in though as dh called me two days ago to tell me he was at Tread Quarters. He's been nursing a leaking tire for awhile but two flats in one day didn't cut it anymore and the other tires will not pass inspection i=this April so he had all four new ones put on at a price tag of over $1000 (hybrid tires = more $$) and we need work on water system in RI AGAIN so lord knows how much that will cost -- these weren't in our budget either! I have ceased scanning e-bay for AG items for the month :( No extra money whatsoever to spend :( So do you want to trade bills???
