~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
WOW! Love your "simple" blue bag. I'm sure your customer will too!
And your DD sweatshirt is so COOL!!!!:worship: Will you be making your girls sweatshirts too?
Good thing DH fixed my laptop last weekend because not my Mac desktop is getting hung up at start up.:headache: Guess I'll have to find a startup disc but not sure what to do even if I do get that to work. I just can't face that today.
Ahhh! I'm falling behind!
I have to say, I am very pleased with how this bag turned out. It really gave me a chance to concentrate on the basics (which I always do) - but this time you are not distracted by the applique, and you can really see the different elements of the bag itself. :thumbsup2
This customer wanted a basic bag, she gave me the choice of exterior colors (I went with navy blue) and I found the interior fabrics - which she allowed me to do with bold and fun patterns. I really love how you cannot tell that this bag is anything other than a basic bag from the outside - then you open it up - and there it is - FUN!!! :thumbsup2
Love the bag & fun print on the inside.
Whenever I make pockets on any clothing...I always hide fun prints inside :goodvibes.
First of all... This is not my design... It's a collage of a few different designs I found in various places online. I want to make sure that I don't take credit for the individual "pictures". However, I will say, putting them all together was my idea... But Marianne helped me a lot. She helped with which phrase to use and placement of the pieces - I couldn' have done this one with out her. :lovestruc
This design was extremely hard to do, because I coudn't cut the sweatshirt up the sides, I had to work around the whole thing. Even because of that, I feel it turned out pretty good. :lovestruc
Love it! It turned out great! :thumbsup2
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
your sweatshirt turned out great!!!
ok, since no one has asked....what is Donald saying :rolleyes1:lmao::lmao:
OMG, I absolutely love it!!! :love: Now ... I have to find a way to kidnap you so you can make me adorable things like that. It's stunning and perfect! You did an amazing job!!!!!!!!!!!
ROFL... I am sure my DH would go for that idea Liddy. :eek:
ACK!!! AGAIN, even BETTER on my large computer screen than on my phone!!!!
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Donald's face and the "phrase" on the front and the back definitely has that "POP" we were hoping it would!!!! :cool1: :woohoo: :cool1: AWESOME!
Thanks so much for your help on this project! Seriously - every time I laid it out, it just seemed to be missing something. Honestly, I think it was the blue satin stitch I did on the letters that pulled it all together? :confused3
This is just too cute!!!
Thanks! :)
Now you need some jeans/capris to wear with it!!
Yes, I think you might be right. I plan on wearing this on the plane with capris and a t-shirt, so I will have multiple layers.
The Navy blue bag turned out great. I lost track of how many zippers, pockets, and fabrics you used, but it's stupenderrific!
:o Oh, dear me, the language. Thanks goodness my son's not home, because after six years in the Navy he's not ready for such profanity.
:donald: It turned out great. I love the hat on the sundae. Can't wait to see real live photos of the sweatshirt in action.
Thanks Cheryl... I agree, your son would be apalled.
Oooh! Yes! D~ you should make some capris with those blue 2" squares I sent you!!!!
I agree... I need to find the capris first. :)
Ahhh! I'm falling behind!
Thanks! That's what I love about sewing - you can do whatever you want - and modify however you want... It's so awesome! :thumbsup2
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
your sweatshirt turned out great!!!
ok, since no one has asked....what is Donald saying :rolleyes1:lmao::lmao:
Thanks... I am not quite sure what Don is saying... It's a 4 letter word though, begining with %. :rotfl2:
I have to work today... all day. We are getting lots of snow (just when I was starting to enjoy "winter"). I am not sure how much we are supposed to get though?
Tomorrow, Josh and I have a "date"... We are going furniture window shopping. I am kind of excited because we have never bought our own furniture (except our matresses) our entire married life - everyone always gives us thier old hand-me-downs... Well this latest couch set has me on my last nerve... It is so uncomfortable, and it's falling apart (the manufacturer never used seam allowances, so all the seams are ripping) & it's very uncomfortable... I can't stand it anymore. Josh was actually the one who thought of it. :eek: Initially, he wanted a recliner because of his surgery coming up in a few weeks, but even if we get it ordered tomorrow, I still don't think it will be here in time? :confused3 This set is at the very tippy top of our price range - but I am going to justify it because it's a good brand (Lane) and I will never buy another set for the rest of my life... I have many family members and friends who have Lane furniture and they are super satisfied with them - so much so, that they have had their sets for years - sometimes decades and have no need to buy again. I am one of those people that believes if you are going to spend the $$, only do it once, don't buy something cheap, because you spend more in the long run having to replace it in a few years. Make sense? Sorry for the furniture ramble... This is the set we are looking at:
And the matching recliner for Josh:
And then, for Liddy... she wanted to see the back of the UP! bag, I took the picture last week, but I forgot to upload it...
I hope everyone has a wonderful day today! :lovestruc
G'luck furniture shopping! I love the couch! Looks nice and cozy!
Thanks for sharing the back (finally!). :p
Have a super day!!! :goodvibes
I love the Donald sweatshirt. It turned out so cute! I am sure you will get a ton of comments on it at Disney.
Have fun furniture shopping. I love picking out new things for the house! You've been lucky to get hand me downs so far. It saves so much money! When I got my first place I had hand me down couches but I had to buy the rest of the furniture. I'd love the replace our family room stuff soon but there are too many other home improvements on the list before that.
Wow! I wish I had a fraction of your talent :) Love the sweatshirt. It will be so much fun to wear :lovestruc
Whew! Finally made it through the entire PTR. I swear there are at least a dozen more pages than when I started reading it last week!
I love all the doll dresses you have made. I don't know if AG dolls are all that big here, or maybe its just that none of the little girls we know are into them?!? The details you put into them are amazing!
I also really like all the bags you have done. Your large scale appliques gave me an idea to do for one for my MIL but now that they aren't coming I don't have to rush to get it done. Gives me more time to redesign/add to the interior my basic messenger bag.
And I must say, you gals crack me up. I don't know how many times my DH looked funny at me when I lol'd at something I read. :laughing:
OMG I love that bag and the awesome fabric that you used
We now just have a private group on FB which is the only reason I have a FB account and a friend made it for me so I could join so just used a made up name -- Michelle and Marianne know my name via pinterest.
:rolleyes1 We tracked you down. :lmao: But if you are FB now you should join the our group over there. Teresa is one of the admins.
"
And I cannot IMAGINE what you might mean by the "fabric hoarders" comment . . . nope, not at all :rolleyes1
:lmao: Nope me either but Andrea has promised to council me one on one:rotfl2:
Your Donald sweatshirt is so cool. It will even look great if you tie it around your waist. Such a fun thing to wear.
The Navy blue bag you made came out fabulous. It really shows off your attention to detail, your quilting is perfect. I just bought your lining fabrics a few weeks ago to make a Kyoko shirt for my DD (but alas it sits untouched in my cabinet with the pattern).
:wave: I'm still around! Sorry I haven't posted much (and I haven't done an update on my TR in a couple of days or so :rolleyes1 ) . . . I promise I'll be better about it soon! Tonight I'm just popping in to say "Hi!" and then I'm signing off - headache has settled in :headache: and I start work again tomorrow morning, so an early night it is for me!
I know, I am very thankful for the hand-me-downs, but there comes a time in our life where we need to grow up and buy our own furniture. LOL I know what you mean... I am still really debating on this furniture - it is NOT a necessity, we could make due with what we have. That is why we are just window shopping, I doubt we'll actually get it, but I am pretty sure we will order Josh's recliner. I'll probably just start saving for new furniture next. :lovestruc
LOL - I can't believe you read the entire PTR... :cool1:
In Canada, it's the Maple Leaf Girls that are popular - same size, same conceprt, much better quality.
Glad you could be inspired to make something for your MIL... :lovestruc
My DH has stopped looking at me funny... He just assumes I am on the Dis. LOL
Yes, Andrea is a very good one for a lesson in fabric hoarding.
Seriously - you should have known better than to show me this one... You know how I feel about Donald. :lovestruc I am in love with it!
Your Donald sweatshirt is so cool. It will even look great if you tie it around your waist. Such a fun thing to wear.
Thanks! I am a bit nervous to wear it around my waist... What if it falls off??? I am a dork and worry about stupid things like that. LOL
The Navy blue bag you made came out fabulous. It really shows off your attention to detail, your quilting is perfect. I just bought your lining fabrics a few weeks ago to make a Kyoko shirt for my DD (but alas it sits untouched in my cabinet with the pattern).
Thank you! Don't you love those lining fabrics??? The minute I saw them, I thought they were perfect, and the more I looked that them, the more I loved them!
Hey, there you are! I got your text last night, but I was on my way out the door to my meeting, and didn't get back home until wayyy late! I loved what you texted me though - it's perfect!!! Looking forward to reading more of your TR. I have a headache this morning too, I think once the girls get on the bus - I am going back to bed for a little while, I never do that, but I am exceptionally tired this morning.
Then, Josh and I will wake up and go do some furniture browsing - I am looking forward to spending the day with him... We even have a Red Lobster GC that I will bring with, from Christmas 2010 that we haven't used yet. :confused3
I haven't even started washing fabric for my next project... I really need to do that. I guess I can start appliqueing some t-shirts meanwhile...
D~
Quick post -- hope I remember everything . . .
Good luck today washing Josh and hoarding furniture.
hope you headache is gone so you can enjoy a fun Date day with Josh!
HAve fun looking for furniture. I love the time I get one on one with G. Not that it happens often.
I love the Donald sweatshirt so cute...but do you think they will allow you into WDW wearing such profanity??
Hope you had fun furniture window shopping. That set looks like it would be very comfortable. We have a sectional similar to that in color.
Love the navy UPB. The interior fabrics are wonderful.
Beware... Furniture boringness ahead...
Thanks everyone... For the record - furniture shopping sucked! We got home last night and I was just a mess... We sat on so many different sets, and it was so hard trying to find one that we really liked, in our price range, with the features we wanted/needed. I've determined that how ever fun I thought furniture shopping would be initially, is how much it really sucked. :rolleyes1
I have to work all day today. Josh and I found a set that we are both interested in, that has most of the features that we want, in the price range we are comfortable with. However, we found it at the very end of our shopping day - so for the life of me, I can't remember what it looks like - so I want to go back with a fresh mind and just double check. I plan to pick the girls up from school after I get off of work today, and we will drive over to that furniture store again, so I can look at the set with fresh eyes.
OK - so the problem with this - we went to 4 different stores yesterday... at 2 of the stores, the service we received was meh, at one of the stores, the service we received was phenominal, and at the last store (where the furniture we want is located) the salesman drove me absolutely batty and I couldn't wait to get out of there! :eek: So, I really want to contact the store where we received great service and see if they are able to order us these pieces - and if they can come close to the price at the other store. Because, working in retail, I greatly value good service - and I feel it's important to patronize a local store... especially when the sales person went out of their way to really help us find exactly what we wanted (even though what we want isn't exactly what our budget will allow). So, after coming to our senses last night and really looking at our budget again, what's realistic for our family and our lifestyle, we were able to be a little make a better decision. I think. All I know, is that I never want to furniture shop again. :rolleyes1
Thanks for listening to my rambling about furniture...
I plan to get back into my sewing room tomorrow and work on my next bag. I've been looking forward to this one for a few weeks. The applique isn't very detailed, but I think it will be fun, just the same. To be honest, I haven't even washed the fabric yet... I really should throw it in the laundry today, so I can start on it right away in the morning. :wizard:
Thank you everyone for your compliments on my Donald sweatshirt - I am so excited to finally have one that fits... I am trying so hard not to wear it before our trip.
Have a great day all. :lovestruc
D~
I hope you have a great day at work! I have to tackle our homeschool "area" (also known as our dining room) today . . . I'm having a Scentsy party on Friday night and my living room is embarrassing (we really needed new floors in there, oh, 3 years ago, but things keep getting in the way of that happening) so that means we're going to have a cozy evening around my diningroom table!
Anyway, I would totally go to the store that has the set you like and get all of the information about it - manufacturer, model #, color name, etc. Either write it down yourself or get the annoying salesman to do it for you. Or sometimes they have those little flyers about sets. . .
and then call the salesman you loved and see what he can do for you. Worst case, he can't get that brand, best case, you've made him extremely happy that you wanted to work with him even though he didn't have the set you ultimately wanted.
Good luck! I hate furniture shopping when I actually have to buy something too. . . .I think it's depressing.
