~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
DD wears her hair in a bun4-5 days a week. We have gotten really good at faux buns with pony tail holders and a scrunchie.
She has even taken to wearing her hair in a bun at karate. They are actually teaching them in class to do it themselves for class
DMGeurts;43799238 I am still trying to figure out what to do with the material. I purchased it in a jelly roll... So I have about 40 strips of fabric that are 2"x10"... Any ideas??? Maybe I'll just sew them all together and do a Pirate Mickey on a t-shirt with all of them? Oh - I almost forgot to tell you all... I got an amazing deal at JoAnn's today... The sulky tear away stabilizer - the HUGE roll of it... You know said:
I like the idea of a bowling shirt. You could sew the jellyroll together, turn it and use the strips as the front, on each side. You could do the collar, sleeves and back of the shirt out of a coordinating solid. If you have enough, you might even be able to do your Mickey head on the back of the shirt. I think it would look great!
Hooray for your bargain at Joanns. I bought some of the rolls of stabilizer when they first put them on clearance. I went in to pick up some other stuff and the ladies at the counter (who know me because I am always in there) told me that they had just marked down the stabilizers. Mine weren't as cheap though. I think I got them for $6.97 and $9.97. I was still happy to have them though.
Can't wait to see the newest bag. Any hints about the design????
I have to say, I am very pleased with how this bag turned out. It really gave me a chance to concentrate on the basics (which I always do) - but this time you are not distracted by the applique, and you can really see the different elements of the bag itself. :thumbsup2
This customer wanted a basic bag, she gave me the choice of exterior colors (I went with navy blue) and I found the interior fabrics - which she allowed me to do with bold and fun patterns. I really love how you cannot tell that this bag is anything other than a basic bag from the outside - then you open it up - and there it is - FUN!!! :thumbsup2
I can just see Josh...."my roll is bigger than your roll" :lmao::lmao:
ya, we always have issue with Megan's buns, plus we forgot her teacher wanted the bun for class...they have a "Show" next saturday so wanted to make sure we knew how to do them....problem is megan has really thick hair, I usually braid it first, just didn't have time last night!
Monday, Monday, Monday....will be peaceful and quiet :goodvibes
I love my girl to pieces, we just need a little break here and there, has been a VERY LONG WEEK for us both .
love the bag! simple but wow for the inside, love the combo of fabrics!!
Andrea~ funny about weeding out the strange people :lmao::lmao: thankfully we don't have any of those here on the DIS :rotfl2::rotfl2: nice you have kept in touch with your preggers group!
our snow is almost gone...roads and trees are bare...hope our parking lot isn't so slushy too, yuck!
D~
FAbulous. I just love love love it. You have given me an idea :)
D.... Marianne did a wonderful job. :love: It was "wicked" cool that I got to see them in progress. Now I can't wait to see you wearing them in the parks.:cool1:
Unfortunately sewing becomes quite addictive and turns people into fabric hoarders and force them to buy whole bolts of SW fabric just in case:rolleyes1 or so I heard :rotfl:
"wicked cool" - thanks for the help on D~'s shirts, btw!
And I cannot IMAGINE what you might mean by the "fabric hoarders" comment . . . nope, not at all :rolleyes1
the scary thing is that they are now 36, 34, 32, 30....the oldest has kids older than Megan :eek: my mom ran into the parent about 6-7 years ago, they have all moved though since then.
Doesn't this kill you? I have "kids" I used to babysit that have babies and I can remember when the "kid" was born . . . and now they have a BABY? :sad2: I don't remember telling them they could grow up!!! :eek:
Hmmm... so, that's where it is... Was it just posted or did I miss it a long time ago??? :confused3
Yay!!! I am glad you enjoyed seeing them bigger. :thumbsup2 I felt like I didn't take enough... I am still trying to decide which day we should wear them??? I am thinking one of our MK days - possibly our first full day there??
Marianne - you did an amazing job on those appliques... I just knew you could do it - you'll be whippin' them out all the time now, I can tell! So, what's your next project??? :surfweb:
I do have a little bit of pirate fabric left, do you want me to send you a few strips? When would you need it by?
Oh - I almost forgot to tell you all... I got an amazing deal at JoAnn's today... The sulky tear away stabilizer - the HUGE roll of it... You know, the one that usually goes for like $40... it was on clearance for, get this... $3.97!!!!!! I couldn't believe it! They only had one left, I frantically searched for more, but I couldn't find any. I hope they are just changing the packaging and not discontinuing it. Also got lots of fabric... Lots of Gutermann thread (it was on sale, and I had an additional 20% coupon)... and I even remembered my zippers!
I missed it too :confused3 I think Michelle should post it here :)
Hmm - which day should you wear them? :confused: Yah, I agree with the "MK" as which park . . . sorry I'm not more help! LOL
My next project is a BG . . . Pirate theme. . . Ship date is in Feb . . . if you have any of the darker strips left when you're all done and want to send them my way, that'd be cool, but don't feel like you have to - I have plenty of fabrics to use, I just think yours are so cool! I remember when Michelle posted hers and I went in search of the rest of the fabrics and just drooled :)
Way to go on the stabilizer deal!!! I got the last two rolls of Totally Stable at my Jo-Ann's on clearance, but I paid $8.97 for mine.
Okay - let's see, ideas for D~'s pirate outfit . . . I KNOW I've seen a pirate Donald somewhere . . . at least I think I have . . .
What about taking a denim skirt and either doing 2" squares in a couple of rows around the bottom and then a Pirate Head shirt out of stripes sewn together? Like my Figment skirt - remember that one?
Or I saw a cute pair of upcycled capris online somewhere the other day ... they had used jellyroll strips and done them in a diagonal stripe pattern up the legs...
I can tell you what I DON'T recommend! Making yourself a pair of Easy Fits capris in 30 minutes or less. . . :sad2: They're NOT the most flattering article of clothing if you have hips . . .:rolleyes1 Just sayin' . . . I don't know anyone that has done that before and been disappointed with the results:rolleyes1
its called "Moleskin" for your shoe....can't wait to see you model your AK outfit!!!
Minky, moleskin, eh . . . This made me :rotfl2:
My friend is actually a forum friend from a pregnancy forum from over ten years ago -- I have never met her in "real life" but a forum friend I have met in real life several times has met her. In one way or another all of us have met someone except for one girl -- we also met a few people we weeded out as they were too strange! We now just have a private group on FB which is the only reason I have a FB account and a friend made it for me so I could join so just used a made up name -- Michelle and Marianne know my name via pinterest.
First of all, you had several quotes with my name on them that were actually Marianne's. I'm not sure how you finagled that. I guess since it's my ptr I can understand.
I :lovestruc your idea of sewing the strips together and making yourself a Mickey pirate t. I meant to do that for VD for a heart for dd -- thanks for reminding as I totally forget -- best add that to my list.
So WI isn't the only place with dairy farms? My dad grew up on a farm in WI but we grew up in a suburb of Milwaukee. THe only reason I'd want to go back is for the AG warehouse LOL!
Is it crazy that I read that and wanted to go?
I have to say, I am very pleased with how this bag turned out. It really gave me a chance to concentrate on the basics (which I always do) - but this time you are not distracted by the applique, and you can really see the different elements of the bag itself. :thumbsup2
I really hate to admit this, but that is exactly what he did. :rolleyes1
love the bag! simple but wow for the inside, love the combo of fabrics!!
Thanks! I really love it too. I never carry any of my own bags on a daily basis - but I would carry one like this... :lovestruc
our snow is almost gone...roads and trees are bare...hope our parking lot isn't so slushy too, yuck!
HOpefully traveling is getting easier and less dangerous by you. I just got back from the PO and roads are fine - some of the ones in town are snow packed, but that's normal.
FAbulous. I just love love love it. You have given me an idea :)
Oooh - now I am curious!
Diagonal sounds really cute! Yah, I am having hip and butt issues lately - so lets just stay away from anything that could potentially lead to an even worse self-image... :cool1:
"OMG!!!!! LOVE!!!!!
THanks! :thumbsup2
D~ how close is the AG warehouse to you??
Um, it's a bit of a drive - about 3-4 hours one way... They only have the warehouse sale once a year, in July... Here's the link to info about it: http://www.madisonchildrensmuseum.org/events-rentals/annual-benefit-sale/
D~ <--- must go sew now. :lovestruc
I am going to say that your bag is Tinkerbell (but than I really like Tinkerbell so maybe it's wishful thinking. :lmao::rotfl2:)
I love the idea of sewing the left over pirate material together to make a mickey head for a t. I can't wait to see it.:thumbsup2
I love the basic bag! And your customer is going to love it, too!! popcorn::
I think this is what I am going to try to do.
I worked on my Donald Duck sweatshirt yesterday... Despite it's awkwardness (Ummm... the way it's made, I can't cut it apart to applique... ACK!) - it looks pretty good. There are a couple of spots that my machine jumped a bit because of having all the material in the way - so I might have to go back to those areas, but as a whole, I am really liking the look of it.
I still need to do the applique on the front of the swatshirt, but I should be done with it this afternoon, and I should be able to post pics.
I am not sure what my next project is going to be. I have all my supplies for my next bag... The super secret one... So, I might begin working on that. Which means, I should probably wash the fabric today to get it ready.
Otherwise, I might work on V's Icecream dress... I just need to double check that I have enough fabric for that. I wasn't thinking I would get to it this soon, so I didn't even think to buy anything for it while I was at JA's the other day.
D~
Can't wait to see I have a long list to accomplish today but first I have to take the girl to dance rehearsal for her solo.
That's OK... I look down at them and they are so cute... but then I look at my self straight on, and they make my butt look even wider than what it is... UGH!!! I guess I need to work out even harder...
D~
SHOES make your butt look bigger :confused3 Did I read that right? I so want to start walking but it suddenly got really cold. Last week when it was nice I just didn't have time. I have to make both sewing and walking and doing things with the kids all fit into my schedule. DD has been so into reading lately. She read 6 Samantha books yesterday, but I read part of two of them with her because she loves cuddling up and taking turns reading chapters and it's qualit time I can spend with her. DD's reading isn't so fun ... we have a huge Civil War newspaper to do -- I say "we" b/c there is no way he can do this project all by himself. Did I mention I hate history? Anyhoo, I kept off the three pounds I had lost until the fall until the past two weeks -- they came back and won't go away. Of course I think I can blame some of that on my age and female issues right now! I won't go into details on a family forum :laughing:
I love those fabrics! I'm a plain person in general but I like to highlight an outfit with unique jewelry or fun prints in something like a bag.
I missed it too :confused3 I think Michelle should post it here :)
Yes Michelle, post your t here. After all this is my ptr and I give you permission (but don't tell D~ she thinks it's her ptr since she's doing all the sewing.
I've made Easy Fit capris for myself but as PJ bottoms and I love them. I made them with a drawstring waist and elastic as well. The don't make my hips look big and I'm rather hippy. Of course, I used an excess striped fabric that I received free from dd's old teacher so maybe the vertical stripes help. I think Easy Fits are cute for pj bottoms or as around the house pants, but I don't think I'd make them to wear in public as "real" clothes.
Not crazy at all -- let's go on a summer road trip! I want a doll of my own! I will probably take dd to DC this summer.
Um, it's a bit of a drive - about 3-4 hours one way... They only have the warehouse sale once a year, in July... Here's the link to info about it: http://www.madisonchildrensmuseum.org/events-rentals/annual-benefit-sale/
Lisa, I say we send D to the sale and have her stock up for us! I would have a blast there! I spend every day on e-bay perusing AG. I don't purchase a lot as I'm a bargain hunter, but there is soooooo much that I want.
sounds good to me....D~ add it to your list for us okay :thumbsup2:rotfl2::rotfl2:
seriously though I probably won't be buying too many more AG outfits since Megan is almost 12 I'm sure her playing dollies days are numbered :sad1::sad1::sad1: except if Miss D~ makes some we can't live without....no worries D~ I know you will get to the Cruella one down the road....
we are going to go see Beauty and the Beast today!
have a great Sunday ladies!!
First of all... This is not my design... It's a collage of a few different designs I found in various places online. I want to make sure that I don't take credit for the individual "pictures". However, I will say, putting them all together was my idea... But Marianne helped me a lot. She helped with which phrase to use and placement of the pieces - I couldn' have done this one with out her. :lovestruc
:donald: It turned out great. I love the hat on the sundae. Can't wait to see real live photos of the sweatshirt in action.
