I had to laugh (and I forgot to grab the quote) about the engine light....

Years ago (about 23)my middle son was diagnosed with a tumor in his head (behind the eye) We were medivaced from Germany to Walter Reed. My husband came back a few weeks later to Atlanta and left the other two kids and borrowed my mom's car to come up to us.

He is very car savy, and more than once took engines out of cars, completely rebuilt them and put them back together (he was a race car driver/mechanic in his spare time)

As he was driving...the "Check Engine" light came on in mom's new car. He pulled over on the interstate and lifted the hood. He looked and the engine was still there....he had no idea why the light came on or what to do about it! When he got back in the car the light went off...so he honestly thought it wanted you to open the hood and see if it was still there!!!

We still tease him about that...(of course he will tell you he was still suffering from jet lag!)

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: sounds like he was having an "air head" moment :rotfl::rotfl:

Well..... did I mention my hubby is a blonde?

Nini

(and he has the prettiest blue eyes!

:rotfl::rotfl: I first typed "Blonde" but didn't want to offend any of my blonde friends :rotfl::rotfl:

so did my husband - so wanted Megan to get them, but she got my brown/hazel eyes instead!

TIME FOR MY VENT:
OK, for those who don't follow along on the Disbout thread, ds is having a sleepover birthday party on Saturday. I let him invite the four boys from the 4th grade and one friend from his school last year. It is a camping themed sleepover and I am giving each boy a flashlight (a nice one -- not a cheapie $1 one) and am embroidering each a t-shirt. I have 4 t-shirts embroidered so far. 1 boy is not able to come, 2 boys rsvp'd positive, and two have not rsvp'd even though yesterday was the date (I had to go buy the flashlights today). So I am pretty ticked -- I bought flashlights for them as if they are coming and will return them if they don't but I don't want to embroider another shirt unnecessarily. I *think* one boy is coming as I talked to his mom last week and she *sounded* as if he would, though never said for sure. I asked ds to ask the boy in class today to see if he was coming so I think I will hold off on doing that shirt until tonight. I just needed to vent though.

And one other thing, I have a backyard scavenger hunt planned and it's raining today. Rain was expected this morning -- but it's not raining, it's POURING and windy and water is even all over our screened in porch. It's supposed to be fine tomorrow and Sunday, but I think our yard might be muddy :( They are sleeping inside -- just wanted to do the scavenger hunt outside and still will -- but if it's too muddy I'll have to do that Sunday morning instead of at sundown with flashlights like I wanted to. And now I'll have soggy dog poop to go clean up too!

OK, vent over. Thought it would make me feel better venting but it really hasn't.

UGH! In the words of that wise philosopher, some days are diamonds and some days are stones.

Hope you have more diamonds than stones!

I also went to conferences yesterday... Allison is doing very well in all of her classes. Victoria is struggling in 2 of them... :confused3 We go through this every year and it's so frustrating... One of these years she will realize that it's important to do your work and turn it it on time... :headache: She is a lot like me in that aspect, so she probably won't realize how important it is until she has kids of her own and has to beat her head on a wall...

Would you like the name of my son's Navy recruiter?

Trip outfit planning ramblings ahead!

After I finish my bag this morning, I am meeting up with my BFF for a shopping trip to JoAnn's. I need to get a couple yards of fabric for V's Icecream dress, which is on my list to complete this week... I have to totally redraft the pattern though. I also really want to make her my doll version of the Goofy outfit - but I don't think that will happen - unless I can find a black button up shirt I can reconstruct - because I really don't want to make an entire shirt... We might swing into Kohl's today - and if they have something cheap that will work, I might give it a whirl - I also want to look for the shirts Marianne used for our pixie dust - I like those waaaay better than the ones I got at Target, and I'd rather use them if I can find them. :lovestruc

I still haven't decided if I am doing an AK bag or not... I've been wearing the zebra shoes for the last few days, and despite the fact they are getting more comfortable - I am still not sure if they will make great park touring shoes? I will probably wear them again today - and try harder to break them in.

Oh, and I almost forgot... I found a pair of shorts on clearance for $2.95 the other day... They are my favorite brand (and a hair too tight :rolleyes1)... But they were weirdly made. I know that sounds strange, but you know, when you buy shorts and they are hemmed, how they are usually worn on the edge of that hem? Well, these looked like they were hemmed as an afterthought, and when I tried them on, that hem just seemed weird and bulky. So, I seam ripped that hem yesterday, and sure enough - they looked like they were a pair of jeans the manufacturer cut off and made into shorts - once I ironed the creases out of them, they just looked like a pair of cut offs. Anyways, I think these will be the shorts I add Marianne's blue squares that she sent me??? Since I got them so cheap, I don't have any heartbreaks doctoring them up... I am just not sure which pattern I should do the squares in though???

OK - enough rambling this morning...

D~

What will you be doing for fun 48 days from now? :confused3

Nothing to shop for, nothing to sew for, nothing to plan for???

You'll turn into me.

I got a hold of one mom via phone -- the one I talked to last week and she was very apologetic and thought we knew her son was coming. The other kid was NOT in school on Friday so we couldn't ask him. I have his mom's e-mail so e-mailed her yesterday and still haven't heard. I'm assuming he's not coming so I am not making another shirt. Worst case scenario if he shows up I'll whip up another shirt or give him ds's shirt (though I fear ds will want his on at the time of the party). I also made dd a shirt but hers is size smaller than the boys. So it will hopefully just be my ds and 3 friends for the sleepover which should be tolerable (though i think I will still premedicate with excedrin!).

You can see my reply to Lisa -- one child definitely coming one no clue. I am throwing the t's in the wash and not making another. The party is tonight. All the puddles in the yard are gone but it's still damp/muddy in spots. I think it should dry out decently today though as I think it will be sunny and around 60. It was nicer yesterday -- it got up to 67.

My day has no sewing :( Just have to make a few signs to put outside for the camp and wash the shirts. Straighten the house a bit (the kids' rooms are the only ones that really need cleaning -- I did all the bathrooms yesterday) and steam clean the tile downstairs (which ds may want to do for $$). I also need to bathe the stinky dogs. And then make the cake. I am undecided if I want to make the cake now or wait until the kids get here and have them make it. I'll ask my ds what he wants to do. Chances are he will want ot help me mix it today and then I'll decorate it cute -- if the boys decorate it it will be more haphazard. I am making a tent with graham crackers and frosting and then a campground setting with a fire and lake on the cake so it should be pretty simple to do (I hope!).

Some people get to have all the fun.

:rotfl2: about the engine light story.

A sailor had to be medivaced from my son's sub. He asked us if we knew how they did that. I'm picturing helicopters, men suspended from long ropes, strobe lights, etc. He said when they got to port the sailor walked off the sub and went to the infirmary. Kind of a let down from what I was picturing, but he thought it was funny.

I probably could of read through 110 pages of the thread, but too excited at your adorable AG outfits so I thought I would just ask here! I am checking on the price of the Jasmine outfit! It is so cute & would be perfect for my little girl!!

Thanks so much!

How adorable! I love it! Thanks for letting me see the back! :thumbsup2

I just had to tell you Lidian that I have had a rough night, followed by a rough day. (The baby has a double ear infection) But just that one simple comment you made, well it just cracked me up. (but than it might just be the lack of sleep.):lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Great bag. I love coming to your PTR because it inspires me (but since I am not talented in the sewing dept...I feel the need to just shop. hahaha)

Seriously, though, I do get inspired, and I will now go put together the shelf that I bought for the bottom of the hall closet and move the hanging bar up six inches using dry wall anchors and all.

I am handy, just not with a sewing machine. (My mom tried to teach me...she's amazing.)

Just saw this and thought it might be cute for an AK bag...it is on the tiles in Jambo House at AKL...

:worship: Love your house. We looked in NK at a few houses and even fell in love with one off of FrenchTown Rd that had 2 acres of land but the thought of having a huge mortgage scared us. If I told you how much we paid for our house you would be shocked. We bought in 1997 just before the housing market went crazy and with a refi on a 15yr mortgage we will be done in 7 more years.

:headache: I can totally relate. When we had DD's bday when she was in Kindergarten I made all shirts (iron on ones as this was pre-sewing) and some parents did not call so I didn't know if I should make them or not. One of the parents I had DH call as he knew him growing up but the other never called and didn't show up:confused3
We bought our house in VB before the market skyrocket and we too refinanced to a 15 year loan! I think we have 6 more years on it -- possibly 7. But our house in NK we bought at the height of the market. We paid $510 for it and put at least $30K into it as we finished the basement and did some landscaping (which the tenants haven't maintained well). The realtor has it listed for $429 now :( but we need to sell it and will be happy to just be able to pay off our mortgage there. When all is said and done I figure we'll have lost at least $150K. My kids may now never go to college.

I got an rsvp from the final mom today at 1:32pm. Party started at 4pm! DH took the call and said go make another shirt. I just pulled it out of the dryer 5 mins ago and ironed it so now ds has one on to match all the other kids -- they all put them on immediately so apparently liked them.

UGH! In the words of that wise philosopher, some days are diamonds and some days are stones.

Hope you have more diamonds than stones!

What are diamonds?

My dh got helicopter dropped onto a ship once -- you know, dangling from a rope. It was a memorable experience, but a stone, not a diamond.

Really like those Lion King ideas for an AK bag too!

I'm battling a migraine. . . it's been a day. . . I feel like such a negative nelly lately :(

I was hoping to be able to cut out all the rest of my BG stuff tonight ... instead I'll be eating dinner and trying to go to bed to get rid of this lovely migraine.
