It's sort of a good thing that Alli doesn't it meat instead of being a rebellion by doing drugs or drinking alcohol. I hope she gets over this phase soon so she gets healthy again.
I can't wait to see your next bag and hear all about your plans for the next WDW trip
I do too Lillian... But I am starting to think it's not a phase anymore.
I am excited to share them, I was able to work on my planning calendar yesterday, and I am super excited to have most of it finished!
I cannot wait to see your ADRs!!
Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards
Thanks Ann- I am excited to share them!
I agree, as far as rebellion goes, being a vegatarian is pretty mild. Does she know how frustrated and concerned you and Josh are? Maybe if she knows that the only thing keeping you from forcing her to add meat back in is her blood work/doctor she will step it up on her own? If she knows her choices are to add more protein or start eating meat again, maybe that will be enough incentive.
Yes, unfortunately - she does know how frustrated and concerned we are. But she is a teen, and she cannot see the big picture. Praying a trip to the Dr. will open her eyes a bit.
I managed 2 work out days in a row - on Sunday we took the girls and the dog for a long family walk around the neighborhood. Then yesterday, before heading home for the day, I went to the gym at our office and restarted my couch to 5k program. Hoping I'll stick with it this time since it's the 3rd time I've started this program. I like the idea of being able to run a 5k because I think that's a pretty good work out that you can do pretty much any time, anywhere. My eating is another story right now - but I'm going to see if I can make the working out a habit and then tackle the food.
Good for you!! It was so nice here yesterday, I really wanted to go out for a walk - but our town was one big lake - especially at the bottom. I opted to wear flip-flops to the gas station and post office.
That's TOO FUNNY!!!!
well aren't you rockin and rollin on diet and stuff! all this shopping and Hanging out with friends! so EXCITING!!! Please tell your neighbor i said CONGRATS on the new bundle of JOY!!!! Push a car! what does she think she is doing!!! Glad she has a neighbor like you to STOP HER!
Well, I didn't actually stop her - I just yelled at her after the fact. I will pass that along, you did meet her last summer when you were here... I am so excited for them! A REAL baby to hold...
I love Sam's.. we shop there all the time for the meat section.. Honestly my kids are eating machines so i need to buy in bulk..
Hahaha... It only gets worse...
It's time to do something about A. She isn't getting what she needs then it's time to put the computer in her face and show her what's wrong with her decision.
BTW Why did she want to turn Vegan?
I know... Well, to be honest, I think she saw Sara (Suzi's cousin) on our trip... She is little, adorable and a vegetarian... I know that Alli has always wanted to be one, she's talked about the desire to do it several times... but I think that was the final straw for her. It was about 2 weeks after our trip that she went all out. I wouldn't mind, quite honestly, if she was making an effort to be healthy about it, but rather than focusing on protein that she NEEDS, she is compensating with bread/crackers/unhealthy stuff - which is not giving her any nutrition she needs, and it's so frustrating to me.
This weekend sucked.. as you saw the pictures of my poor dog.
I know... Poor guy... How is he doing now?
I am finally feeling better and glad to be back on the dis!!!
Glad you're feeling better and happy to have you back!
I was sick as a dog yesterday. Feeling better to day and I'm back at work after my 5 day weekend!
What is going on with all of my Dis friends? I am so happy to hear that you are feeling better and back to work.
I don't have any suggestions for you with regards to Alli, except maybe add some fruit to the cottage cheese. I don't care for it either, unless its mixed in something else - like lasagna. I do have a recipe for something my kids call "pink stuff" that uses cottage cheese if you want it - very simple to make and I think everyone will be able to eat it.
I would love the recipe whenever you have the time to share it. And I was SURE to put extra cottage cheese in her lasagna last night.
Can't wait to see what you choose for ADRs - I will be able to make mine in a couple of weeks.
I am very excited to share them with all of you!
None of my family is vegetarian but I do know how stubborn kids can be! Forcing her to eat meat may backfire into a real rebellion! Probably taking her to a farm to see where her meat comes from is not a good idea! I can't eat meet IF I think about where it comes from. Will she eat a garden burger or chicken? Maybe a signed contract with her responsibilities laid out would help and help her take ownership of her choice. As long as she knows you will do it... She won't try!
Your bags are beautiful as always!
Everyone have a great day. Ruth
Thanks Ruth... I know - I have the same issue with some meats... Not so much those that we purchase (since most of them come from the local meat market, who only buys from local farmers) - the ones I have the issue with are the meats we purchase from other places, which isn't very often, but...
She won't do chicken.

But she will do eggs... I enourage her to eat eggs as much as possible, as you can't get much more of a perfect food. Sometimes she does, sometimes she doesn't.

I always encourage her to have them for breakfast.
Is Alli still involved with track? There's no way that a coach should let a young athlete slide on protein. No way to build muscles with no intake of protein.
Exactly... Yes, she plans to go back to track when it starts this spring. I agree with you completely! But she refuses to listen to me, it's so frustrating! Especially when, as Josh tells her, I am eating as much protein as I can get on any given day, and I have a VERY hard time hitting my daily requirement as it is... I KNOW with out a doubt that she is NOT getting her daily requirement - and it's mORE important for her, as her body is still growing and developing.
I miss having farm fresh eggs and meat. I suppose I could get some in the B'ham metro area, but the prices would probably be out of budget.
It's expensive... Our neighbors have chickens, and I just talked to her the other day, she said she would be more than happy to give me their extra eggs when they have them... Super excited about it. I will happily pay her for them too! I should talk to her about just "buying into" one of their chickens....
It is the kind of day at work today when I'd rather be home, sewing. I need to be here, but nothing is going on really and I can't actually work on my stuff because I'm filling in for an employee.
So I'm catching up on the DISboards.
Hahaha... Sounds like a fun day to me!
Hopefully, Alli will come around when she goes to the doctor.
I hope so too...
Oooh...I can't wait to hear where you are making your ADR's. I an make mine the 23rd of March and I have a few new ones I am booking.
I am very excited to share them with all of you... It's very hard to keep quiet!
Hey Miss D - I go off to Dizney World and come back and find another beautiful bag posted! You did awesome! Beauty and the Beast has to be in my top 3 movies. We had a really good time at WDW; like I said its been 7 years so I saw a lot of changes; I am going to PM you and let you know what my oldest son ate; there were a few challenges, but he managed; it is doable but hard; he, of course, didn't want to eat just salads; I will let you know!
I am very happy to hear that you had a great trip! I look forward to hearing about it, if you have the time. And I look forward to the list too... I know the feeling - I have NO desire to go to WDW and just eat salads.
I am so glad to hear your Dad liked the package! I sent a little note explaining the mugs and what they meant to me; I also bought a postcard but didn't have time to get it in the mail! It will go out today.
Thank you again Carol! He did say that he got the sweetest card with them, but he didn't tell me about the story. He usually sets them aside for me to read when I get there, so I am looking forward to reading it. I hope you don't mind.
You are doing so good with your life plan; now your daughter needs to find her healthy place; you need to call the doctor before her appt and explain the situation; I am concerned for her as she is so young; there are so many choices out there now for organic beef and chicken; I hope things take a turn soon.
I know... Believe me... I would be more than happy to buy her some organic stuff. I wouldn't be able to stretch our grocery budget for all organic, but I would certainly be willing to if it meant she would eat meat occasionally. I am honestly not asking her to give up everything, but at this point - she is so PROUD that she hasn't had any meat in 5 months, and it just makes me sick.
And no, you are not alone, I cannot stand mushy overhyped Valentine's Day; we never do anything for this day; I am glad you got to enjoy a steak dinner with your hubby.
Have an amazing rest of the week; I will PM you soon; as always, daily prayers to you and your family and Dad!
Thanks Carol - same to you!!!! I am looking forward to hearing about your trip... And i hope you have plans to go back.

I've heard that August is a nice time to go.
I saw that on FB...love it.
Thank you - I loved it too!
My preferred protein sources back when I wasn't eating meat was hard cheeses, green smoothies (think tons of green veggies, peanut butter, yogurt and a bit of honey then blend to the consistency you like.. I still drink them when I work out a lot), nuts and seeds (for example pistachios or almonds are 6 grams of protein an ounce, a cup of beans has 15 grams of protein), lots of beans/lentils, eggs (I still ate ages and cheese products), hummus (great lunch option on the run if you add some crackers as well and veggies). Im sure there is more but my mind is blank right now..
Heres an example of a day of food:
Breakfast: Green smoothie, granola and greek yogurt.
Snack: crackers and cheese
Lunch: hummus with crackers, lrg salad with a generous amount of nuts
Snack: protein balls (I made these instead of buying them)
Dinner: 2 bean burritos with salsa and cheese, veggies of some kind
Snack: Green smoothie
I also snacked as I was hungry. I use to eat a ton since I would run on average 10-15 miles a day (except Sundays, they were my days of rest). I, also, had a job that I was regularly lifting more than my body weight and helping to load those items onto large trucks. Basically I was very physically active so keeping full was a huge if I didn't want to pass out from low blood sugar. Most snacks were fruit or veggies although if I felt I needed it Id eat something more substantial. I avoided anything artificial so no protein shakes or store bought protein bars, Ive always like to eat as close to nature as I can manage.
Have you tried getting her to track her protein intake so she sees how low it is? Maybe take a picture of her now and put it up with one of her from a year ago so she sees the difference. Kids are so hard sometimes, when they get an idea its hard to get them to shake it.
These are such great ideas! I love them all! I do have almonds in the house at all times, I buy them raw and roast them myself - soooo good. I've told Alli they are there, I don't think she has ever eaten them? Sigh.
She does eat eggs and cheese... yogert too... Not so much cottage cheese, but I do encourage her to do so.
As for the protein shakes... The whey powder I use is totally organic (
www.teraswhey.com), so there is nothing artificial about it. I abhor processed foods of any type, and encourage my family to stay away from it... More and more as time goes on. I agree - there are lots of protein powders out there that are very scary!
I know... I wish she could "see" it... I just see it in her energy level - and like I said, the color of her skin. You'd never know it in the photo she posted yesterday, as she has make-up on... but it's there. And it's so sad.
THank you so much for taking the time to write out this list... I will be taking it with me to the store to insure I have more of these items in the house. The hummus is one I didn't think of, and I bet she would like it.
This is adorable! I love seeing teens that obviously love their parents, so many just seem to be so mean to their parents a lot of the time.
Thanks!!! We love her a lot, and she is a very good kid... Very proud of the person she is becoming. Don't get me wrong - we do have our good days and bad days, but she makes good decisions (most of the time) and encourages those around her to do the same. I love her for that!
My daughter is a vegetarian and we make big batches of homemade black bean veggie burgers that she can substitute with. Peanut butter is good, nuts, she rally loves mushrooms. I found her a vitamin that does not contain any gelatin either that helps supplement her protein along with shakes and bars. Bad thing with teens is they want to be vegetarian, but only want to eat non meat "junk" food.
Oooh - I googled these, and I think these would be great! I agree, her diet is packed FULL of junk... She will eat anything, as long as there is no meat in it... it's so frustrating for me, because she is not getting nutrition from any of these things.
THanks Ann!
So one of the joys of having a newborn..... I don't stay caught up!!! But we have been enjoying him every day! I can't believe he is a month old today!!! Need to get some more pictures of him put up.
Good luck with Alli and the Dr.'s appointment. Hopefully they can either work with her to eat better or get her to give it up.
No worries at all... He is so CUTE!!! Happy ONE month birthday to him - I cannot believe how fast this is going, it seems like you JUST had him!

I know you are enjoying every moment - as you should.

I had a decent day yesterday in my sewing room... I was able to finish the applique, and start some pre-assembly work on my custom order this week. I should be able to finish the bag tomorrow...
Then, I ran to the post office and to put gas in my car - IN MY FLIP-FLOPS!!!!

It was wonderful!!!! I cannot WAIT for spring, I am about to go stir crazy in here!
Then, I spent 2 hours assembling 3 different lasagnas yesterday afternoon...

It was crazy! But - we will be having left-over lasagna for the rest of the week. LOL
Today is a Target day for me... A full shift. I hope it goes well and there are a few project for me to work on, so it goes fast.

Disney update: I am about to burst not sharing my ADRs with all of you... I worked on my main calendar page yesterday - I am very excited about it! It always seems more real when I have that part done. I am very happy with how our trip is coming together, I am a bit bummed that we don't have any days off at all - but we will have to power through. It will be a great time regardless.
I also need to get to work on my big auction... If you've noticed, I have not been doing my monthly auctions either... believe it or not - I just haven't been that inspired about anything lately... So, if you all want to throw some ideas out there for me - I'd love that. I do have my idea for my big auction, it's just all the small monthly ones I am having issues with. That and I've enjoyed my lazy weekends far too much.

But - I NEED these auctions to pay for our trip, so I must resume them.

I hope you all have a fantastic day! Sending out prayers to all who need them, and feel better vibes to all the rest of you...
