Folks:

I will be leaving in 2 weeks for a 2 week Florida vacation (4-5 days of this will be at WDW)... We will have a rental car for the duration (picking up at Dollar at MCO)... During our last trip I parked the rental car in the lot at ASMu for the whole WDW part of our vacation, and took the bus/monorail with relatively no problems. I seem to remember that the busses were as fast or better than if I had driven myself (including the occasional ~10 minute wait for the bus to show up), and it was nice to not have to worry about driving at all... (especially from Pleasure Island at 2am)

I have heard about bus-on-demand and other transportation changes in the past while, and wonder how we should get around WDW for this trip, considering it will be from August 19th-23rd (WDW gearing up for light crowds). Now that I am a little more familar with driving in WDW, does it make sense to park the car for the whole time? (We will be doing EE and E-Night, and will be taking a mid-day break at the resort each day). We are splitting the trip between ASMu and the GF. For ASMu, do the busses still go fairly regularly? For the GF, how much longer is the boat ride to the MK vs. the monorail? How decent is bus transportation from the GF to parks and DD? How easy, quick and conveniant (walking distance) is parking the car at the parks and Downtown Disney?

Thanks

I can't answer most of your questions, but I'll try to help you out with the monorail question. MK is the next monorail stop from the GF. It should be the quicker than taking the boat. When returning to the GF, it will be quicker to take the boat as the monorail will stop at the Cont. and Poly first.

There were some bad bus experiences earlier this year when they were experimenting with bus-on-demand. But BOD has been put on hold for the most part, and you will find the bus service now about the same as you remembered it from before. ASmu has regular, reliable bus service, as does GF. And, of course, GF is also on the monorail line.

You may still want to use the car for any Downtown Disney trips, as that can be a long bus ride.

Enjoy!
