This was a day without the parks. We went to Kennedy Space Center. But first was breakfast, I had a Mickey waffle to fortify me. The morning started off with rain. The whole way there we were playing tag with the little rainstorms. There was no one at the Center and that was nice, but it was a bummer about the rain. We saw most but not everything. We walked through the Rocket Garden, saw a thing on robots, took the bus to an observation point where we could see the launching pads, the place is really huge! We drove by the assembly building for the space shuttle, and the bus also took us to a building that had a real rocket in it, a Saturn V. It was interesting to read about it and see it too. We got to go into a control room and pretend we were seeing one take off. The windows even rattled. Back at the center we saw an IMAX film about the space program in general, a lot had been shot by the astronauts in space. It was really interesting. We got some space ice cream, or in real-world terms, Dippin Dots. It was the 1st time we had had them and they were not bad. We also went through the Mars exhibit and got to touch both a moon rock and a Mars rock.
After a trip through the space store we left. By this time the rain was breaking up and that was good because we were going to the beach. We drove to Coco beach, parked at Ron Jons and walked to the beach where we went in but only waded. It was nice to just walk along and enjoy the sound and feel of the waves. It was nice and breezy and we saw two cruise ships and several little rain storms.
Driving back to Orlando we went down International Drive and saw all the little shops that had sprung up. We had a decent dinner at Bennigans and dessert at Ben and Jerrys. And then it was time to go to Downtown Disney! Time to shop our little hearts out! We had saved all year just for this. We started in Readin and Writin and the art of Disney but didnt get anything. Then in to the Christmas store where we got several new ornaments. It smells so good in there you never want to leave. On to the Home store, where they have so many good things but only 2 cashiers. We donated much to their cause. The Gourmet Pantry was next and we got a few nice Mickey things to nibble on, as well as nibble in, like new bowls. We walked through the Pooh, the Toy store, and the other shops there without seeing anything we had to have. But then, oh my, the World of Disney store is there. Say hello to our Disney Club discount and good bye to our money. Seven rooms all themed differently and so much to choose from! We managed to do a lot of damage but some of it was actually for other people. Well maybe just for Xanda, shes the only one who really appreciates this. We walked through the Lego store but we were done for the night. We had shopped ourselves out, there was quite a crowd, and it was time to get to bed.
