Seriously...whats up with crocs?

agreed. They are the worst in rain. I remember wearing them on a rainy day at Disneyland..... it was a comical show until I walked back to my hotel barefoot to change my shoes lol.
Same thing happened to me wearing my old crocs. Fell first walking to bus stop at the Dolfin. Guy said “nice slide”. I was lucky. My but was soaking wet. Got to MK. Fell again walking into the park. Then in line at Space Mountain fell while walking the line. I had to buy shoes in the park. I was seriously lucky Indidnt sprain a knee or ankle. I was like how does this keep happening ?!?

I have always wondered about Crocs (the cloggy ones) when I see lots of people walking around WDW in them. I mean, they're rubber or plastic aren't they? Some swear by them for all the walking, but I would think your feet would sweat and you'd get friction blisters. I never could wear those 'Jelly' shoes when they were in style when I was a teenager back in the Stone Age for that reason.
Crocs and jelly shoes are completely different. I never had wet feet in crocs. They have holes in most that breathe. My DD has ballerinas that we’re closed and they never smelled. Jelly shoes were evil things.

I saw the title and, for a hot second, thought we were talking about actual crocodiles, which makes this sentence kinda funny.
I thought there was an actual Steve Irwin thread in here somewhere. I guess that where we'd talk about actual crocs.

I find them very comfortable and lightweight but I can't deny they are horribly ugly. I've also found that the hard plastic material rubs when I don't have socks on. If my feet get sweaty or its humid (i.e. Florida!), I get blisters. So if I were to wear them in the parks, I'd have to wear socks, which is even uglier! I've tried Crocs flip flops for a better aesthetic and had the same experience - very comfortable, but blister causing.

The only saving grace IMO would be a cute pattern. I have seen some leopard print ones. I wish they would make a streamlined version that's a little less clunky and thick on the bottom. The ones I have are also very wide which adds to the clunkiness.

DD would only wear the white ones, as that was the trend at our area universities. But she recently added a snakeskin print pair to her collection. I will say her feet are tiny, so they can't really look clunky.

My three year old loves his but when I tried on a pair I didn't find them all that comfortable.

I have high arches and most flip flops just don't work for me. Croc flip flops do. I pay the extra few dollars so that the upper part is made of leather rather than plastic. They don't have lateral support, so I don't wear them for long walks, but I love them in the summer or when it's raining and not cool enough for rain boots.

I don't care for crocs, but I don't like flip flops or sandals. My kids like 'em, but legit crocs are so expensive, they tend to only get Wal-Crocs.

The crocs basic clog is $35. That is "so expensive" to you for shoes? I LOVE how cheap they are, I just had to buy one son new running shoes. $120. Glad he doesn't ask for multiple pairs of shoes in that price range every year...

Some of their more specialty models are more expensive, but on the whole, I find any pair of shoes under $100 to be a bargain.

If you leave your crocs out in the sun for a few hours, they soften up. New crocs need to be broken in and eventually they get very pliable and soft all over.

I'm not the poster but the most I've ever spent on shoes is $35-$40 but I prefer $25 and below. I love my Ryka's but no way would I spend full price (about $60-$75). I just buy them on sale. Ain't no shame in that :)

Wow. Okay, then. As a runner with feet issues, my typical sneaker is around $130, and I am thrilled when I can get an old model for around $80. I wear Fit Flops fir everyday summer wear and those run about $65 each (I have 6 pairs) but they are the only kind of open toe shoe I can wear. When you have foot problems, cheap shoes aren't an option. I did that once with some dress heels for a formal event and I was in pain for a WEEK afterwards. I went to one of those huge shoe stores that have everything and chose a $20 pair. I threw them out after that night. Never again.

That's not exactly what your words were :flower3: You mentioned your son's shoes and that anything less than $100 is a bargain to you.

There's a decent amount of New Balance shoes for instance are good for diabetics and you can still get them on sale or at retailers that sell it even at full price for a lower price point than another. Certainly different needs may mean you need to get a more fine-tuned shoe but no one was talking about specialized shoes of which a physician or podiatrist may prescribe you're better with getting.

My last pair of Ryka shoes were the exact same I bought at DSW a few year's prior (I spent I believe about $35 for those on sale rather than the $65+ full price they were) on Amazon..I spent $25 (I just pulled up the order and it was $24.99 with Amazon list price of $69.95 ). They weren't $25 shoes. That's just what I paid for them :)

Regardless though some shoes are cheap in construction and are priced cheap or priced expensive, some shoes are good in construction and are priced cheap or expensive. Not all expensive shoes are comfortable, not all cheap shoes are uncomfortable.

It's not a knock against you (speaking towards your 'wow okay then' part of your comment), I'm just saying I totally understand what the other poster was talking about. I worked at DSW for a few years. People bought Nike and Coach at full price and they bought it when it was on sale or clearance. Same shoe different cost. Some people, which would include me and the two other posters, just have a price point where we are uncomfortable really spending more than that. It doesn't mean we're doomed to shoes that are crappy in construction, uncomfortable, etc though.

I think it depends on the surface and how worn they are. I'm pretty sure that brand new Crocs are going to be a little bit slippery until the original surface wears down. They should be fine on rough concrete or cement. But on anything with cobblestones or one wet linoleum tile they're going to be pretty slippery.

I’m genuinely shocked by all of the hate for Crocs! I admit the classic “clog” style is ugly, but have you seen the other styles? I wear black dressy Croc sandals to work every day. I adore them, they’re very comfortable, and they’re stylish! I have a pair of Crocs wedges that look nothing like Crocs, and I wear them to weddings. They are beautiful, make me look very tall, and are so comfortable I can dance in them all night.

I’m a big fan!

$35 for crocs isn’t cheap when compared to similar alternatives. An expensive running shoe isn’t a comparable shoe. You can buy knockoffs at Target or Walmart for under $10. Kids go thru shoes too quickly for me to spend $35 each for a glorified flip flop.

Enjoy your shoes.

I've gotten them pretty cheap at their outlet stores that are found at almost any outlet mall. I've seen them as cheap as $10 in the clearance bin, although $20 is typical. The other thing is that they last longer than almost anything out there. I've got 12 year old Crocs that are still usable.

They might be pricey for kids, but they don't require an exact fit like sneakers. I've gotten ones for my kid larger than needed, and then we can go through them for a longer time.
