Serenity Bay Beach changes

If I was an adult that didn't have kids and I didn't want to be around kids, I would choose another cruise line. I think it's silly to go on a Disney cruise and try to get as far away from kids/teens/tweens as you can. There are plenty of other very nice cruise lines out there that would be glad to take your money that don't cater to kids/families. So either deal with it or switch, but stop complaining.

Because on one of our recent cruises we had about 3700 cruisers and less than 1,000 were kids. So Disney doesn't just cater to kids or to families with young kids. During the school year, the adults are DCL's bread and butter because there are a lot of parents that won't (or can't) pull their kids out of school for vacation.
So thanks for trying to tell those of us without young kids who to cruise and how to spend our vacation dollars. But when you offer to pay the bill, then you can tell us what to do. Until then, you can put your opinion back in your back pocket.

Uh, what? I have every right to complain about anything I want. I don't believe that anyone said they don't want to be around kids. DCL is not just for people that sail with children. People of all ages and backgrounds love Disney. DCL markets these adult areas and with some of the changes that have been made it has upset some people. Include ME in that list. I have two children that will be in Edge until 12am-1am every night. The pools & hot tubs close at 10pm. I don't enjoy nightclubs and bars or the nightly karaoke. Look at some navigators from past cruises and you will see there as no other activities for adults to do besides the movie theater or maybe some live music somewhere outside of a bar after 10pm. So basically there isn't a whole heck of a lot for my MIL and I to do. I can only play shuffle board so many times!!! So, yes, them putting a teen beach near same area the adult beach is a little upsetting to some.

It is likely that people heading toward the teen beach would board a tram that heads down the landing strip and stops near the Serenity Bay Tram Stop, and then a new foot path would be cut taking them to the newly created beach area.

Not seeing why a duplicate tram, or a new tram stop leave alone a new foot path would be needed. Its not like they couldn't just pass through the buffer zone on their way to the teen/tween beach. Similar to what happens on the Dream-class ships where children often traverse the adult pool area to get to/from the forward elevator bank.

Well First off I don't spend thousandS on my cruises. I price shop, get decent deals and have yet to pay thousandS!!
Disney needs to hear opinions on how its guests feel about changes. Trust me they have their peeps reading these boards and lots of other sources to see what people think. Does that mean they make changes according to what we think or want? Not necessarily..... but our opinions sometimes come into consideration. So it is IMPORTANT for us to let them know how we feel.

Will wait and see what happens but the whole idea of SB/BBQ/WC area is it's adults only and that is the way I personally would like it to stay. I cannot imagine many who travel on DCL sans children and enjoy SB would be happy about this.

Again the majority of people not bothered about it will no doubt be travelling with kids in the same vein as those who don't drink so don't see what the fuss is about from all the "drunkards" not being able to bring liquor on board.

I agree fully with this statement. But it has been hinted at that having to share a tram with teens would be intrusive. I won't go into a full critical analysis out of fear that I will offend someone. (But see posts #s 21 and 25). So I offered up the possibility of a separate tram to mollify those who think that the teens and adults cannot coexist for 5 minutes. In reality, I see one tram and one tram stop, leading to separate paths (to shorten the walk) to separate beaches. What a concept! From the look of things, teens using the buffer area to access their beach would be a problem for some. Too close for comfort. Hence the separate path, (which, if you look at an aerial map, appears to already exist in rough form.)

The ocean is big, but the Serenity Bay BBQ area is not. If the teens can also use the dining area, there may need to be expansion.

Up to this point, there has been no suggestion that this will be the case, and the maps above pretty much prove that it will not be the case. But I suppose that people want to believe that the Bahamian sky is falling, and that teen-generated food fights are about to descend on Serenity BBQ.

Where did I say anything about the sky falling or food fights? A PP stated the ocean was big, and I agree. I just commented that if the beach is developed for more guests, there might need to be more room to eat. And, I am not sure how the maps "show" the amount of people using the BBQ seating area.

Where did I say that you said that he sky was falling? What you said was "If the teens can also use the dining area..." Where did that notion come from? Where in the OP's post was that suggested as a possibility?

It's not silly... It's a choice.

I believe you can love Disney and Disney Cruise Line while not "enjoying" the presence of kids. You can avoid them most of the time if you stay in the Quiet Cove Area/Serenity Bay Area/Palo/Remy/ and by participating mostly in 18+ activities on the ship. It might make it much more tolerable if you are not crazy about them.

I would classify the situation in the same category as the change in the alcohol policy: when you are used to a certain type of privilege, you might get pissed if you see that privilege disappear. I see the Adult only areas (with access to Disney) as a privilege and it is the main reason we picked DCL. Like many others, I am scared of changes (reducing adults privileges).

I really don't think that after sharing the ship with the teens/tweens for 3-7 days, sharing a five min. tram ride would be that inconveniate.(sp)

Heres another thought. How about the are to the right , all the way down at the end of SB? There's a paved road that the bicycles use, tram road huh. Lots of space for a new bar, bathrooms, a second BBQ, a couple more cabanas.

I think that the lifeguard in the first post was there because wasn't there an accident or drowning at SB earlier this year. JMHO

I believe in the right to complain when your next cruise is PIF, your plane tickets are paid, and the changes are happening now, without notice.

Can you imagine now you tell them they cant bring a truckload of booze AND that there may be a teenager on the same tram, walking on the same path or *GASP* EATING in the same location as them????

BUT the area is ADVERTISED AS ADULT ONLY by DCL. LEGALLY an adult is 18 years of age....not 15, 16, or 17.
And several of you who don't think it's such a big deal probably already don't think that the rules apply and already "sneak" your teens out there because you are above the rules and what does it hurt??? They aren't bothering anyone....
No wonder kids these days are growing up so self entitled. They don't understand that the rules apply to them!! Such snowflakes!!!!

That's a pretty poor assumption. In the 12 times I've gone to SB I've never seen obvious teens out there.

I agree. I have no complaints about kids on the ship as long as we adults have our designated areas for escape when desired. There are DINKS who spend a lot of money on Remy dining, spa services, Concierge suites, cabanas, high-end "signature" excursions, and even on-board shopping occasionally - DISNEY DOLLARS that I don't think DCL would like to lose. The difference in DCL's recent changes is that the alcohol policy was an unadvertised perk that was hidden within their FAQ. The "serenity" of the "adults only" beach, BBQ, bar area and all has been a strong point of DCL's actual "marketing" to adults and not a hidden perk. IF this changes and IF there will be minors in the adult traffic areas of that vicinity, DCL should alter their marketing in their commercials, DVD, TV and print materials. Although I am thinking about how the experience would be different, I won't worry about it presently as it has not been officially announced.
