Has anyone been in September and if so what is the weather like? I am perhaps worried about the hurricane season and is there likely to be one. I have managed to get the dog in kennels but now I am not so sure about whether it is the right time to go.

We went in september last year in the middle of all the hurricanes, although we didn't really see much evidence of them when we were there it was a very worrying time before we went.

It is very difficult to say whether there will be any this year, but there is unfortunately always a chance of there being a hurricane.

Thanks, :) I think maybe we need to rethink and perhaps go later as I am not too sure I want to get caught in a hurricane, for some reason I didn't think it went on for this long. :confused3

The hurricane season goes on till the end of november, so its a bit of a nightmare to fit in a holiday in the quiet periods of the year, and itsa very difficult to right off four months of the year because of it.

I don't really know what is best to do, but I do know that we had a very agonising two weeks before our holiday due to last years hurricanes. We went 11th september to 25th september and were chased out of orlando by hurricane Jeane, our flight was the last flight out of the airport that night before it closed!!!

September is very hot and quite humid. Often there will be a daily thunderstorm at approx 2 - 3pm which "clears the air". I've not been in September for many years but I think the parks are very quiet then.

The parks are extremely quiet, we've been to WDW twice, both times were september and it is really quiet, you nearly walk on to the rides with no wait at all, so its either risk the chance of hurricanes and walk on to the rides or go at a different time of the year and risk it being busier.

I don't know what to do now, the thought of the parks being quiet sounds really good especially as we didn't do rides in IOA because of the heat and the queues, the two don't go together well for me..... just don't know what to do :sad2:

A couple of days back I read that the long term forecast for USA is that this coming hurricane season will equal or exceed last year in terms of hurricanes with 13 named storms expected, at least six of those reaching hurricane strength.

That said, Orlando is well inland, and most hurricanes either run up off the eastern coast or gulf coast of Florida. The few that come inland rapidly lose strength. Even those that struck Orlando last summer were much less powerful say, than 'Andrew' that stuck Miami and the Keys a few years back (am I that old?

I usualy visit WDW Sepember or October and have never been there during a hurricane, though twice, one has passed nearby, causing heavy rain and winds for a couple of days. Disney has everything much under control and it would never stop me visiting at that time of year, even though there is a possibility of a hurricane during my next visit.

we will be in orlando sept 5th to 11th this year, i think the parks were closed on the 5th last year so hope the same doesnt happen again!!

We were there last year Sun Aug 29th to Sun Sept 12th, and had a visit from hurricane Frances on the middle weekend!! We did lose the sat and sun with the parks being closed, but visited Univ IOA on the Fri and Seaworld on the Monday (labor day in US) and it was a little breezy and showery but we could walk onto anything without a wait. Didn't see that much damage from Frances but our hotel was without power for a day.
Planning to go back Sept 13th this year, so it didn't put us off. The whole 2 weeks were quite with hardly any queues in any park - that wins me over any time!

This year will be the third year that I've been to Orlando in September - the weather is superb, nice hot days with a cooling downpour part way through the day - which due to the heat virtually disappears almost instantly. Arriving early at the parks mean you can do all the big rides with virtually no queues leaving you to explore the parks when it gets busier later on through the day - this to me is the biggest advantage of going in September, superb though the rides are, I wouldn't necessarily want to spend a huge chunk of my holiday queueing for them.

As regards hurricanes, we caught hurricane Jeanne last year, it meant we had one day confined in the hotel which wasn't particularly a big deal, and seeing the hurricane was certainly an experience! We're going for three weeks this year and I wouldn't be surprised if another hurricane hit, but they are certainly prepared for them over there and they respond magnificently, so selfish as it may sound, it doesn't affect your holiday too much.

We were due to fly out to orlando September 3rd last year. Florida had been put on the high risk for one of the big hurricanes (hurricane Francess) as it was due to hit the Florida coast the day we would of landed. On the evening before were due to travel Virgin had cancelled all flights out there for a period of about 5 days. We were very upset that we had to cancel the holiday and worried for all the people over there. Because of this i would never book another holiday to Florida at this time of year again. Even more so with them saying this years storms will be bigger then last year. It caused alot of upset and worry as we were tracking the storm the week leading up to the holiday. We got all our money back and rebooked again and were going in 3 weeks :cheer2: Hopefully the worst we will have to put up with is a few thunderstorms and some rain  I hope you get it all booked and you have a great holiday :cheer2:

We're going on September 14th for 2 1/2 weeks. If there's a hurricane then so be it. We were there in 1992 when "Andrew" hit Fort Lauderdale and felt the effects in Orlando. We were also there in 1995 when the big tropical storm, whose name escapes me now, passed overhead. They are geared up for these storms as they occur so frequently, so we'll take our chances.

Hi

I would sitck with the dates you have chosen, as the parks are quieter and the weather is lovely. I have been 5 times now and only once was I caught by hurrican - well tropical storm really. We went in 1992 with Hurrican Andrew on the war path and we missed it by days, but felt the tropical storm so the flight was a little bumpy, which my mum and dad hated, but as soon as you fly over the atlantic away from florida it calmed down alot. The next time they went in 1996 they had tropical storms from a hurricane that hit Miami, but it didnt really cause any problems other than it was really windy for 3 days. I wouldnt change your holiday dates unless you had to and if it was going to be a problem the holiday company will change it closer to the time if there was any real danger. Try not to worry and just look forward to it. :cool1: :cheer2:

Thanks everyone, I think we will stick to the first two weeks in September as planned :sunny: especially as the queues are better.
