September TR... UPDATED on July 11th, 2009--FINAL DAY POSTED.

I know how you're feeling. Its really hard to readjust to real life. I'm missing Disney, too. :sad1:

I can't wait to hear about your trip. It will be interesting to see if we did end up in some of the same places.

I"m really interested in seeing if we ended up at the same place. If i had seen you, i would have def. said hi!!

I'm still here
I know exactly how you feel about missing Disney. It is always such a let-down to go from being in Disney to being in the "real world." I'm glad you guys have booked for next September, I'm sure working on planning that will help with the post Disney blues.Good luck convincing him to make a quick trip in November! November in Disney is fantastic. Nice weather, hardly any crowds and the Christmas party (which is amazing) If not, I'm sure a solo trip would be awesome. Hey, if I could acquire funds that would allow me to buy a season pass again I'd totally join you at a park one day :thumbsup2 I'm sure someone on the black market needs my kidneys more then I do  Ask one of the mods if maybe they will move this thread to the trip reports section. I've seen them do it before, plus it would be good for any new, curious readers to have all your planning info with your PJ.

Yah... my quick trip in November is def. not going to happen now. I just got a dental bill that wont go through my father's insurance.. :sad1: But at still have next septembers trip to look forward too:rotfl: ONLY 11 months to go...

Hey I'm still heeeeeere! :) So glad to see you're back... and I HATE coming back home, it's soo ... ugh! lol :sad2: :guilty: I feel that way every single time. I've often thought about doing a solo trip as well but at least you have something to look forward to in a year which is AMAZING! :) I'd start counting down!! I love going in November... I'll be there!!! For our honeymoon!!

Don't keep us waiting too long ;) popcorn::

I hate coming back too... its so nice to hear that people understand what what i'm going through... DBF def. doesn't get it. I'm having a hard time convincing him to go in sept. he says he's over Disney:scared1: How can that be?!!

I"m really interested in seeing if we ended up at the same place. If i had seen you, i would have def. said hi!

I would have too, but I didn't see anyone I recognized, or any tags. I could have been just missing people by a few minutes though.

Sounds like a lot of work getting there. Its amazing how much there is to do to get ready.

Glad you were able to sit together on the airplane!

I'm interested to hear about your room change!
We were in 70s and Jacob thought it was the boring looking building too. But we were facing 80's and not in the room much.

Love your start about your "dream" trip.

And I forgot to say congrats on booking bounceback!!!!

YAY!!
Finally got it going! So excited! :) I'm still here!!! :goodvibes

My DF doesn't understand what the fuss is all about with Disney, he just goes to see me happy.. I just wish he truly enjoyed it as much as I did.. or anyone else crazy about it the way I am... I don't know what it is, I just LOVE being there!! :)
Sorry to hear that your Dbf didn't get his haircut before leaving.. and not getting his time in to do what he wanted to do!! Ugh! That sucks... He could have gotten his haircut at disney, though! lol! :) I want to get mine cut there! Hehehe!! Looking forward to more! I'm so excited! popcorn:: :cheer2:

I'm glad you started with your TR though! Sounds like you both had some crazy days leading up to your departure. Hopefully Disney made up for all the prior madness.

What is it with DBFs not understanding Disney? Mine somewhat gets it, but he can't fully grasp why I love the World so much. Luckily I've been able to get him into it more since we started dating (to be honest, he hasn't had a choice, I managed to convince him to buy a year pass after 5months of dating ;) ) If anything, drug him and drag him to Disney regardless

I'm so glad you began your TR!!! :woohoo: It's so cute that both of you are doing it together. I love getting both perspectives, and I can't wait to read about the rest of the trip and see all those great pics! :surfweb:

I only have 73 days to go, so I'm going to live vicariously through your experiences, to make my time go faster!

Day 2 started fairly early. Really early actually!! So earlier I can’t even remember what time, possibly around 5:30AM. I noticed that Dbf always has no problem getting out of bed… I on the other hand attempt to sleep in until the very last possible second. Def. not a morning person, cranky and miserable even in Disney. We had a tour planned for 7:30 at EPCOT and still needed to check out of our Building 10 70s room and check back into our new 50s room, all without missing a beat at the two parks we were planning to visit that day.

Tuesday morning, I booked us in for the around the world tour at Epcot with the segways, with our AAA discount. Dbf chose this tour. . I think this was the ‘extra activity’ he was most excited for. We ate at the POP food court for breakfast; I grabbed a western omelet (I’d made the decision to attempt to eat as healthy as I could while on vacation) and used my “refillable resort mug”. I think just the omelet with potatoes came to like $8, which I guess is acceptable considering you’re in Disney. I don’t even remember eating this morning…I’m pretty sure we didn’t but dbf says we did. The omelet was decent; my only complaint is the lack of non-carbonated options at the drink-bar. You pay $13 for a refillable mug, which is a great deal when you start to add up the cost of beverages during your stay, but choices are still (it’s been two years since we last made the venture) very limited. I’m not a coffee drinker, were both not coffee drinkers actually, which basically leaves you with these choices: sugar-filled caffeinated soft drinks, apple juice or sugar-filled lemonade. I know they OFFER other juices by the bottle, but if they can handle apple juice, why not also orange juice or cranberry or SOMETHING just to give choice to those of us drinking the same non-soft drink option all week. Dbf is really healthy, or at least he tries his hardest to be with the options available to him… I not so much. I drank diet coke/diet pepsi most mornings… I know disgusting… but I hate apple juice and that’s the only pop I like. Some mornings… we did decide to purchase Orange Juice. I just want to say, that Pop Century has a really good and affordable food court. We have absolutely no complaints about the food there.. and have chosen on several occasions to go back to the hotel to eat rather than grab counter services at the parks.

I carried a backpack most days, so right after breakfast we rinsed out our refillable mugs at the wash station and dumped them in the bag. A note for those planning on backpacking it after doing it twice myself: narrow backpacks are great, like the ones used by runners with the water bag insert (remove of course), they tend to have a lot of padding, a waist belt and lots of internal pockets without many external pockets (that grabby passer-bys could reach into). Unfortunately, this time around I bought the backpack last minute, broke most of my own rules about packs and had sore shoulders by Day 3. Oh, also, narrow backpacks fit in the storage areas of most rides better!
Dgf had scheduled us for the Segway Tour at EPCOT, which I was eager to attend. The only catch is that the tours start long before the parks open, so instead of hoping there was an early bus to the park, we opted for a cab.
Dgf may remember pricing better than I, but I know it couldn’t have been more than $6-7, which suited us fine to guarantee early arrival for our tour. It def. wasn’t more than 9 dollars American and well worth it. I didn’t want to feel rushed or even worry that we were going to be late. We just arrived the night prior, traveled most of the day, had a horrible room, a horrible check in… I just needed this morning to go smoothly. When we arrived at Epcot, the weather was comfortable and a tiny bit foggy.
purchases249.jpg

oops..:rotfl: Nope.. that was just my lovely camera skills. It was absolutely beautiful outside
purchases700.jpg

and people were already lined up at the gates…. I was a bit shocked. We really didn’t know where to go. We knew you had to meet inside the park near the Guest Relations/Customer Service but its close. Nervous, that we would miss our tour (even though we were early) I made Dbf ask the CM who was directing a variety of other people in line. (I guess some were for tours booked that morning, the princess breakfast in the world showcase etc, ) Dbf seemed a tab bit annoyed that I made him ask. I guess he just wanted to wonder around until he figured it out for himself… by asking the cast member, Dbf found out:
To enter, usually find the furthest turnstile and there will be a cast member with a clipboard who lets you in by last name (I felt a little like VIPs getting into a nightclub – as on-looking parents glared at us from their spot in line). Me too, hun. I felt special. After being name-tagged, we followed our guide (we walked, he rode his Segway) to Innoventions where a Segway training center is set up. I was excited to try out the Segways, I hadn’t really thought about this tour much during the planning stages. I mostly booked it for Dbf. That morning I was so nervous because I don’t drive (I don’t know how the two are related, but I thought the Segways would be difficult for me). After a brief safety video and helmet fitting, our guides lead us through mounting, getting off of and steering our Segway. Exactly, so we walk out of the theatre area, and were told to pick a segway.. my idea was to pick the two in the very back row. This would give me the opportunity to watch the others in our group mount and steer before our turn. Nope, I WAS THE FIRST ONE. Talk about adding to my anxiety: everyone was now watching me:scared1: . It’s quite an ingenious device actually. It basically works off of a gyroscope that is constantly trying to keep the platform you stand on level. Thus, if you lean forward the Segway moves forward to prevent you from tipping over; if you lean backward, it slows down and reverses to prevent the same. To steer left/right you simply lean your handlebars in that direction. It all seems quite foolproof, but I assure you that, at first, you a) feel quite foolish and b) feel quite confident you’re going to fall. Thankfully the learning curve is quite quick. The hardest part I found initially was staying still since very few people have perfect posture. So while I thought I was standing still, in actuality I was leaning ever so slightly forward or back and my Segway decided to creep one way or the other.. After 10-15mins of practice drills and obstacle courses (Which I was so thankful for, and felt much confident after completing them) though, you’ll feel like it’s an extension of your body and be ready to take on the world – and you do, well at least the World Showcase. I think my favorite aspect was that Future World had just opened (It had Extra Magic Morning Hours) as we left the training area, so you get the rock star feeling as park guests try to figure out why you get personal transportation, people were even taking our photos and then, since World Showcase is still closed, you get a private tour without the hordes of people that will fill the sidewalks a few hours later.

I give this tour an A+.
Me too!! Some of it was due to our guides (I wish I could remember their names, an older graying gentleman with glasses and a younger guy with dark short hair) who were fantastic, some of it was due to the techie geek inside me and the rest was pure Disney magic. I only wish we had more time to tour World Showcase, or maybe more tidbits that are more behind-the-scenes Disney and less about that particular country. Either way, if you’re willing to spend the money and don’t have any little Mickeys on your trip, I recommend it highly. Here's a photo of dbf and I, on our Segways.. Arugh.. HORRIBLE photo for me as always..
purchases252.jpg

After our tour and a short bathroom break, we immediately headed over to Test Track because the line-up was still under 15mins. I was hoping the ride was fast paced based on the name, but other than one ABS test, it seemed like your average rush hour in the city with sound effects. It’s not really a high adrenaline ride for adults, but would probably be great for older children or young teens. I liked this ride, it was pleasant… not my fav. and it wasn’t what I had remembered.

Afterwards, we made the quick trip over to Mission: SPACE. This trip I somehow convinced Dgf (who is NOT a rollercoaster enthusiast) to take the “more intense” version of this ride and it was MUCH better than the lamer <ahem> I mean, less intense option. You’re basically strapped into a simulator and taken from liftoff to landing on Mars. During various parts of the experience you’re required to push a button, which I thought was going to be boring at first, but quickly changed my tune when I was called to press a button during liftoff. I consider myself an in-shape guy, but I still had to use most of my strength to reach my arm out in front of me to press the button – the Gs you’re pulling during the simulated takeoff makes for an AMAZING moment. This ride is great, but not for the weak stomached, which they must already know, since they include sick bags in front of your seat. I hate this ride, I really do. It made me sick during the less intense version two years prior; I have NO idea why I agreed to take the “more intense” version… now that I think about it. I did it for Dbf, I know he enjoys the thrills and it’s his vacation as much as it is mine. Compromise is after all part of being in a relationship. With a few rides under our belt and Dgf reeling from to stomach churning, we decided to use this time to get back to the resort to pull our quick room switch and MAYBE even score a quick nap before heading to Hollywood Studios for the afternoon.

I felt really sick after this ride and I was exhausted from all the extra hours worked, traveling and getting up so early that morning. It only took at most 20 minutes to ride those two rides… we headed back to POP (with no wait for the bus) around 1030am I think. We picked up some lunch, refilled our refillable mugs and headed to the room. We had scheduled a late check the night before… 1pm.. This gave us enough time to zip up our suitcases and take a good decent nap before our afternoon started. You should know that prior to us actually leaving for WDW.. I had scheduled in naps everyday for our 8 days in the world… and last minute removed them because Dbf said he didn’t want to waste time napping when were paying all this money to be in WDW. I am a firm believer in naps… I bet if you asked Dbf now…he would agree.
After our nap, we freshen up and zipped up our suitcases (we didn’t even unpack) and headed to the Classic Hall for our Check out/Check in. We requested a room in the 50’s building, facing the back so we could have a view of the fireworks every night. We love the 50’s building...something about it feels like Disney for me. There’s the pool (hardly ever busy), the laundry room, fire works most nights and quiet. Yes, it’s a bit of a walk to the Classic Hall but were young we can manage.

Our check out/Check in went so well…
n90410688_31496097_5024.jpg

The young lady who checked us in was knowledgeable, friendly, nice and just perfect. It was quick, easy and painless. Our room was read.. room keys updated with our park passes on them . She gave us a map of the resort, a package full of all necessary information during our stay with:

We def. felt like we were checking into the WDW..I finally felt like we had arrived. The best part was that OUR ROOM WAS READY!!! We decided to leave our luggage with the conceige and have them deliver it to our room later that afternoon… because we were off to Disney Hollywood Studios, after all I had planned a full day of activities and we didn’t want to miss a beat!! Plus, I was so excited to see Beauty and the Beast on stage.

The first order of business when we arrived at Disney's Hollywood Studios

was Rock’n’Roller Coaster which is my FAVOURITE ride of all the parks.

You go zero to sixty in something like four seconds. I’ve sat in the front car before and had my eyes water it goes so fast, and all the while you’re listening to Aerosmith tunes, HOW COOL IS THAT!! The entire ride Dgf worked hard to maintain her sanity and keep her eyes open,
(I made it my personal goal… to keep my eyes open on most roller coaster as I’ve never done this before) while I sang along to all the songs. And then, almost as enjoyable as the ride is seeing the photo – most riders looked like they just been shot out of a cannon, but as Dgf told me, I looked as calm as if I was sitting at a stationary table. (I should have taken a picture of a picture, Dbf looked like he had just sat down for a class photo…. But he thought that taken a picture of a picture was tacky) I recommend this ride to EVERY roller coaster fan and to anyone else you can drag along for the ride – fast pass though unless you get in when the line is 10mins.

The Ariel’s Grotto stage show was a sleeper hit for me. I went in expecting to be bored and was actually very impressed – the “Under the Sea” number is amazing with the fish appearing and disappearing on stage in front of your eyes and on a hot day, it’s one of the few well air conditioned activities in the park.
I think this show runs every 15-20 minutes. I loved this show. Ariel was absolutely beautiful. I can’t believed we decided to skip this show on our previous trip. Next was Indiana jones.

I’m a big Indiana Jones fan to begin with, so it’s no wonder I enjoy the live show.

They replay a few scenes from various movies and you get to see how some of the stunts are done, plus, if you’re outgoing and feel like participating there’s a great opportunity to make a fool of yourself! I myself just enjoy watching jaw-dropped and wide-eyed at the stunts.
I tried to pressure dbf into volunteering to be an audience member in the show, but it didn’t work. I could secretly sense that he really wanted to be in the show even if he claims you make a fool out of yourself: not this time but I’ll get him in the show next time. I liked this show more so this time around than the previous time, because I had actually seen an Indiana Jones movie and we had great seats. As you can probably tell by now our afternoon at DHS was reserved for ‘shows’ ONLY. I had scheduled in all the sit down shows that afternoon because I knew we would have been tired from traveling the day before and from getting up early for our segway tour so sitting down to watch shows all afternoon seamed like the perfect afternoon for us.After Indiana Jones, we went through the gift shop. Dbf always likes trying on the hats, he always talks about purchasing one but never gets around to it. After Indiana Jones it was time to see Beauty and the Beast…

Stay tuned? Did we end up seeing Beauty and the Beast? Day 3-Food Porn, A SURPRISE, Another Full day at DHS, Toy storie (was it all that it was hyped up to be) and our first official fight at WDW.

awww yay for day 2!!!! :)
you guys were so cute with the segway thing!! that looks so hard!!!
can't wait to see the rest!!! :cool1:

Great update!

Glad the segway tour went well. I have terrible balance so I am afraid to try those. My son wants to do it when he is old enough!

DHS sounds good so far! Looking forward to the rest!

You updated!

You guys look cute in the segway tour picture, although you both look a bit peeved. I don't think I could ever trust myself on one of those. I imagine it would go a bit like my first time on a skateboard, which ended with me crashing into a Toys R Us display during Christmas shopping with my parents :rotfl:

I can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip. You have me very intrigued about the Disney fight. I had one of those with DBF and it was so petty, but horrible none the less. I hope you both recovered from it quickly and I hope it didn't ruin too much of your trip :goodvibes

I would have too, but I didn't see anyone I recognized, or any tags. I could have been just missing people by a few minutes though. And I forgot to say congrats on booking bounceback!!!!

Tags? ...... Thanks. As soon as those September 2009 hours come out I"m going to start to plan.:lmao: :goodvibes

Thanks for still being here...:rotfl: I suggested he get his haircut at disney... he said it was for little kids:confused3 I"d love to get a trim there!!

Disney > teeth :rotfl:
Only kidding of course.

I'm glad you started with your TR though! Sounds like you both had some crazy days leading up to your departure. Hopefully Disney made up for all the prior madness.

What is it with DBFs not understanding Disney? Mine somewhat gets it, but he can't fully grasp why I love the World so much. My only choice for Sept. 09 might have to be drug him and drag him..:rotfl: I suggested the other day that he plan the trip for September.. but he just shook his head no.

Time will fly.. and then i'll being ready vicariously through you... were' almost in November.

Thanks for reading along.

awww yay for day 2!!!! :)
you guys were so cute with the segway thing!! that looks so hard!!!

It wasn't hard.... it was pretty easy once you got the hang of it. We both were not up for "photos" that morning... but i would suggest that tour to everyone.

Great update! Glad the segway tour went well. I have terrible balance so I am afraid to try those. My son wants to do it when he is old enough! DHS sounds good so far! Looking forward to the rest!

Oh... I"m sure he'd love it.

Yah, we both had agreed NO PICTURES THAT MORNING, we were just too exhausted :lmao: so there's only 1 shot during those whole 3 hours. Yes... our fight was petty as well.. thanks for the goodvibes.

DAY 2- Continued

After Indiana Jones it was time to see Beauty and the Beast… but honestly I know the theme of the Day 2 seemed to be exhaustion (boring),but I was whiney, exdhausted (Even after a nap) and unfortunately we didn’t make it to see Beauty and the Beast. Let me explain..

During my pre-TR- - We search high and low, drove all around the city for those crocs: the result was that I ended up buying a white/black pair of Athens. Now it was only Day 2, and they were already causing me problems. The arch in my left foot was just not appreciating the shoe or the lack of support, therefore I would get a cramp right in the middle of my left foot and on the right, the support was perfect except I was also getting blisters in between my toes….hmm… these shoes were just not working out. I had even worn the shoes everywhere and anywhere for a good 2 weeks prior to our departure to break them in. I just couldn’t walk; it hurt so badly. I didn’t want to switch to my regular black crocs because then my toes wouldn’t get tanned, and on top of that I had a French pedicure done. And there, in a sentence, is the difference between our methods of traversing the park. I threw on my comfiest pair of running shoes with the full knowledge that I’d be on my feet 16 hrs a day; Dgf worries about foot tans and nail polish and ended up with enough pain that I was hunting down extra strength Tylenol in the Pop Century gift shop.
With that, we decided to go back to the resort, get some dinner there, browse the gift shop and just get an early night sleep because we were headed right back to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the entire day. The bus wait back to the resort was pleasant, no wait and quick service. I’m pretty sure Dbf and I ended up watching the Disney Channel most of the night and we called in for our wake up call at 630am. My sad little secret because of this trip – our relaxing in the hotel room while Dgf napped caused me to watch enough Disney Channel that I was able to discuss story points of various shows with her 8 year old cousin two weeks later. Even now I’ve caught myself pausing to watch The Wizards of Waverly Place in the middle of the day when I ought to be watching something slightly less emasculating. On the plus side, the hotel rooms at Pop are air conditioned to perfection and have comfy enough beds and pillows that I didn’t even mind lounging while Dgf slept off the day’s activities.

DAY 3-

After a good night rest, Dbf was up around 630am to shower we wanted to be at DHS before rope drop at 9am…. He always showers in the morning and I prefer to shower in the evenings, so while he was in the shower… I slept until the very last possible second.
I wish I’d brought a second alarm clock actually, because there were days when I became her alarm clock due to the time crunch and that didn’t always lead to happy faces in the morning. A side-note for all Pop Century guests, when we were in Building 10, I called for the wake-up call and spoke to an actual person – that particular wake-up call never came. In Building 5, every time I set a wake-up call it was an automated system and worked perfectly. Moral of the story: people do make mistakes, so if your wake-up set-up isn’t automated, use their alarm clocks as a back-up (even if they are a pain to set). We each got ready, had breakfast at Everything POP Dining with our refillable mugs. I cannot remember what I ate every morning. I had the pancakes at least once and they were tasty, but since I was trying to eat somewhat healthy, pancakes, bacon and sausage were trimmed from my meal plan. I tell ya, stick with those omelets – tasty, filling and as nutritious as you can hope to eat without going for fruit bowls. We arrived at DHS within 15 minutes of leaving POP, and waited in line. It was almost 9am and the CM let us in the park up to the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard… where we watched an opening gathering. I liked the little plays at the park openings, this one was a little hokey, and contained a bit of that humour that you laugh at because it’s soo cheesy, but still amusing. I don’t recall any Disney characters at the opening though, which in hindsight is a little disappointing after seeing how involved they were at places like Magic and Animal Kingdom. Here is the best picture we could capture… we were not that close.
purchases275.jpg

Once the crowd was allowed into the park (guided), the WHOLE crowd seemed to continue on down Hollywood Boulevard to Pixar Place, for Toy Story Midway Mania.. so, at that very second we decided to turn RIGHT with the half a dozen people onto Sunset Boulevard, headed towards Rock N” Roller Coaster and the Tower of Terror. This was a far cry from our last trip to Disney. I remember the initial crowd on Sunset Blvd and the tight quarters. This time around you could almost walk leisurely towards two of the headlining rides for the park! Clearly, Toy Story has taken over that park! Honestly, I read all the hype about the ‘New” Toy Story Mania ride, and I just didn’t seem impressed with it. Let me explain, First off, I really enjoyed Toy Story when it first came out… but now not so much. I also HATED the Buzz Lightyear ride at MK during our first trip (just you wait readers, I can’t wait for her to swallow her words after her ride on Buzz THIS time around… it’s like the competitor in her woke up for the first time and any ride where she could compete to kick my butt became that much more amusing… including both Toy Story themed rides), I only went on it for Dbf and I hated the idea that the new ride would be shooting targets as well. This decision was best for us (at the time)! And for all first time Disney trippers, I’d recommend doing the same. Toy Story Mania is EASILY going to be in EVERY guidebook as the must Fast Pass ride. I’ve read the guides, I’ve created maps and timetables myself so we could hit every ride and honestly, with the new rush in that direction, we managed to walk onto BOTH rides with less than a 10 minute wait combined. Besides, Toy Story is cool, but you cannot beat Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster! The walk down Sunset Boulevard was slow, we were able to snap a few pictures:
Disney547.jpg

purchases279.jpg

Once we arrived, we rode Rock N” Roller coaster (again). First run of the day, which impressed Dbf, but he really wanted to be seated in the front but some old man and his youngwe (13ish) daughter kept pushing past us. We weren’t even trying to get in front of them, or anyone… we were slowly walking… slow enough for me to take some pictures. Next, we walked over to Tower of Terror. I hate Tower of Terror; I think I cried throughout the whole ride during our last trip at WDW (she did, and leading up to it, and afterwards until we were on the ground again). I agreed to go, for Dbf…. But once we were close enough to see the elevators and the seating arrangement: I changed my mind! Yep, I headed down the chicken elevator (with a small child: no older than 6 years old) and left dbf to ride. And the only thing more embarrassing than her chickening out with a 6 year old, was the fact that the child’s father was basically forcing the screaming and crying child onto the ride until one of the CMs politely “suggested” to him that the child probably would be better off not riding. It’s one thing for a grown woman to be too scared to ride, I can deal with that; but when a grown man cannot accept that his child is too scared to ride, that’s sad and mean. He was initially mad (I was SOO not mad! I just only wanted to do everything on the trip together, ‘cause I thought that was more important than doing the ride at all. So when Dgf initially said she didn’t wanna ride, I said I wouldn’t either, which then led to her going in the line to try to please me. She, of course, leaves out the detail that I was the one who suggested she take the chicken elevator) that he would have to ride by himself but quickly got over it
purchases278.jpg

Again, there was absolutely NO wait, and we were most likely done these two rides in no more than 25 minutes, (we walked slowly, took pictures, browsed around in the gift shop). I need to add that this ride seems a lot tamer than it was a couple years ago. I recall the jerking on your body in the elevator being a lot more forceful than it was this time around. In fact, there were three of us (all guys) in the back row laughing the entire time the elevator was shooting up and down. After the Tower of Terror, we decided that we would now go and ride Toy Story Mania. We made our way back down Sunset Boulevard, cutting near the Hollywood Brown Derby to Pixar Place. I shouldn’t have been surprised because it was only 9:40-9:50 am (I’ve read all about the chaos that accompanies this ride), the standby wait for Toy Story Mania was already 50 minutes :scared1: I was shocked; the line was all the way outside. We decided to FP it and move on: After all it wasn’t important to us (at the time). Next on our schedule was the Muppet Vision 3-D, however on the walk over and out of Pixar Place we saw that the Studio Backlot Tour had a 0 Minute wait time :rotfl: . We decided to ride this ride, a walking/tram tour of movie-making magic (a continuous 35-minute tour). I’m not going to say this tour was a waste of time because it was all right. It’s just that once you’ve experienced it once…you really don’t need to see it again. Nothing changed, nothing new, it was actually pretty boring. Personally, the only exciting part of this whole tour is the props room and seeing the staff members work on costumes. I don’t even think that was very amusing. They use the props room as a walking area to herd you from one venue to the tram loading dock. It’s nearly impossible for you to stop for more than a moment to look at items and even if you did, you couldn’t see much because they’re all stacked tightly together like old furniture in someone’s attic. The costume areas are interesting, but completely under used. You’re in a moving tram going 10mph passed a 15ft long glass window – again, one of the only areas of the tour that might change and you only get a moment to see it. Plus, the costumes they have on display are almost foolish. For example, I think they had a dress from Enchanted and men’s street clothes from some other modern day movie. If you have antsy kids, skip this unless your feet are too tired to keep walking elsewhere.

Well the tour was over, so we walked down the Streets of America slowly making our way over to Muppets Vision 3D, by this time my feet were killing me, again: but I did manage to bring an extra pair of shoes in our backpack for backup (that I had the joy of carrying… reminder guys, check my backpack suggestions earlier). We got to Muppets Vision 3D, and the wait time was around 20mins. Yes, we could have waited but I wanted to ensure we got great seats for the shows, after all I’ve been looking forward to seeing this show since the day before. It was already really hot outside and if my memory serves me correctly and according to the pictures, we made our way to Beauty and the Beast. :woohoo: . We were catching the very first show of the day 11:30am, we were at least 45-50 minutes early and families were already lined up. I grabbed a seat on the edge of the flowerbed near the entrance, and Dbf grabbed us some ice cream treats. I know dbf wasn’t excited to see this shows (probably too girly) and he’s never seen the movie, Can you believe this?? Who hasn’t seen Beauty and the Beast? Well we sat and enjoyed our ice cream, in the sun only to realize we needed some cold water after. Dbf volunteered to go and get some and I would hold his seat except before he could return they let the audience into the theatre around 11:12 am. I chose the best seats in the house, directly in the middle about 10-15 rows up. Luckily Dbf found me, was happy with our seats and we enjoyed the show. What did you think of the show, dbf? It was ok. I mean, after watching what they did with the Mermaid live show I had high expectations. A few of the songs were catchy, but to me this show seemed more Broadway than Disney – you know, less cutesy and cartoon and more grown adults with fake smiles while they dance. Plus, the Beast costume REALLY limits that character’s ability to move, so it makes his arms looks like Kermit the Frog. The songs were all catchy, but that’s typical Disney fashion. In all, see it once, because it’s well acted, but I probably won’t race back for an encore.

The show was over at 12:10pm: and our bellies were hungry. We casually walked over to Studio Catering Co. and ordered Caesar salad wraps with a drink. These seemed like a good idea at the time, and I’m not sure what the alternatives would have been, but I don’t recommend them. There was sooo much Caesar dressing on it that you couldn’t taste the chicken. I think for counter service, even in the planning stages, this was the hardest park to find tasty options at. We ate; I changed shoes, took a small washroom break and headed over to Toy Story Mania to use our FP. We still had around 10-15 minutes before we could use our FP, so we popped into the Journey into Narnia: Prince Caspian. Having not seen the movie, I did enjoy the short film, but we didn’t even stop to look at the walking tour part. If you’ve seen the movie, skip the ride. Basically, you walk into a cave and projected on the walls is a narrated trailer for the movie. If you’re looking to get Caspian’s autograph, this is the place to be, but the show itself is not worth any wait and the walking tour consists of a room with four costumes and half a dozen props behind glass. Good way to kill time between FPs, but don’t stand in line for it. Getting into the Journey into Narnia and watching the introductory short film took the 10-15 minutes… off to Toy Story Mania it was. Our wait, using FP was not longer than 7 minutes.

Not the greatest photos, but at least a couple. I absolutely LOVED this ride; I beat Dbf by 200,000 points. AUGH! I CANNOT BELIEVE MY MOUSE EARS… clearly my lovely girlfriend allowed the heat and her poor memory to go to her head. She actually LOST this game by 20,000 points (she won at Buzz Lightyear by 200,000, but we’ll talk about that another day). I will agree with her that this ride is AMAZING! It’s a 3D shooting gallery that is highly interactive, really well created, fun, slightly competitive and, the way it’s designed, you feel like you’re the only ones there instead of noticing the people all around you. I had a blast and as fast as the FP line moved, felt as fast as it was over. !!! Its a must, no, it is my favorite ride at DHS. It’s my second favourite, need I say Rock’n’Roller Coaster again? We tried to get FP for later on that evening, but FP was already closed down and it was only 1:35pm Next we headed over to Muppet Vision 3D.
We got there at 1:43, and a show was just about to start. We grab our glasses, and stood in the introductory room. About 10 minutes into our wait, a CM came on the microphone and announced that they were having technical difficulties and it would take approximately 20-25 minutes to repair it. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE decided to leave. Not us: we decided to take a seat. We enjoyed the air conditioner, giving our feet a rest and within 10 minutes we were seated and started to watch the hilarious 3-D, 25 minute show. My only disappointment, and don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the Muppets, but this show looks OLD compared to every other 3D show at WDW. The picture quality looks very 1980s and the 3D seems slightly off for most of the show… I think it’s due for an update or at least an upgrade to HD! Still, it’s funny and one of the shows I wouldn’t miss on a trip to this park.
Disney554.jpg

Disney598.jpg

Disney597.jpg

After this show, we browsed the gift shop because Muppets are Dbf fav. growing up as a child. He didn’t purchase anything, again. Why’re you making fun of me for not purchasing anything? I already have my obligatory Kermit fridge magnet… and frankly it’s difficult to find places to wear Disney t-shirts on a daily basis outside the parks. After browsing, we decided to walk past Mama Melrose. I wanted to see what it looked like and I wanted to know where the restaurant was located as we had a Fantasmic Dinner Package that evening at 5:15pm. It was now 2:31pm and we made our way to the Star Tours.
purchases362.jpg

purchases361.jpg

I don’t think we did this ride our last trip, (we did – it was that memorable for her) and I can’t even remember it now. So it must not have been that great. It did kind of remind me of Wall-E, I don’t know why. It’s another ride that could use an update. It’s Star Wars themed, but as a video simulator ride. I enjoy these because it’s like a roller coaster, but I find that the picture is such low quality it takes away from the ride. I think it would be cool if they added a bit of Wall-E to this ride. During the pre-ride, they have droids working and I think it would be cool if one looked like Wall-E just as a joke. If you’ve got small children they have a Jedi show outside that’s worth seeing. If you get your kids up front and eager, they could even have the chance to duel with Darth Vader. We were out at around 2:55pm. Just in time for the Block Party Bash. This was scheduled on our itinerary (as we were not planning on leaving DHS today for a nap) but it was hot, we were exhausted, my feet were killing me and we needed a nap. Considering we had the Fantasmic Dinner Package at 5:15pm that evening and it was already 3pm we didn’t have much time to travel back to the hotel room to freshen up and get a quick nap or swim. Walking to the bus, we were able to take a couple pictures of the parade. As I recall, we actually saw most of the parade – blame the poor photos on the guy in front of me with the video camera. Was I like that last time when we had our video camera? I noticed this on more than one occasion, where budding videographers move and bob out of their area so they can get the best shots while the rest of us get side-swiped by their free arm. You should stick around for the first part of the parade at least. You get to see Boo and the rest of the Monsters Inc cast and a few Toy Story characters, and all of their costumes are HILARIOUS… we ducked out when the parade stopped and everyone started dancing. Seemed like a good idea to me.

We made it to the bus stop, but waited for WHAT SEAMED LIKE FOR EVER for a bus. Now here’s my little rant of the day.:headache: When we first got to the bus stop, there was only 2 families waiting in front of us and by the time the bus came.. it was packed. Now, at the very last minute, a lady with her scooter and her 12 family members (at least) (yes folks, Dgf is not exaggerating this time, there were actually that many. It was a group trip, they weren’t even her family, just all her friends) decided to wait in the scooter section. This angers me greatly for couple of reasons,
a. we already had a scooter on our bus (with their entire family) who board before the rest of us waiting in line PRIOR to them even arriving and
b. when the bus returned back to POP her “family”, who got on the bus with her DIDN”T EVEN WAIT FOR HER TO GET OFF THE BUS. They just took off… To me, if you get on the bus before everyone who was waiting in line because someone in your family needs a scooter, you should stay on the bus until everyone is off, and you disembark along with your family member who’s on the scooter.

Okay Rant over… in my defense though, I certainly wasn’t the only person who was thinking these thoughts at that very moment… There was a group of really nice girls behind us waiting in line, all wearing gold Mickey ears who had different characters sign the back of their ears (which was such a good idea) agree with me. We were talking with them and it turns out that some of them were thinking the exact same thing. So for the first time on our trip it took us an hour to get back to the hotel. Argh. I tend to agree with Dgf – I understand that you have to accommodate wheelchairs and scooters, and I understand that in some parts of the United States obesity is considered a handicap rather than a bad choice made by someone who likes DingDongs and HoHos more than exercise, but why is it a free pass for large families? There needs to be a better system. I’m almost tempted to bring my Grandmother along next time (who can walk perfectly), strap her into a scooter (thus she gets a 24/7 roller coaster ride) and get first dibs on every line. If it were one person accompanying every scooter, I probably wouldn’t rant. However, it seems coincidental, at the least, that all these scooter drivers come with their entire family tree. Their scooter takes up three seats, then their family occupies a third of the bus. By the time the rest of us make it on, the bus seems to shrink by 50%. I have no solution, but as an able bodied person who paid the same amount (or more, aren’t there senior rates?) as every 60 year old in a scooter to attend the parks and stay at the resort, why do I get stuck waiting so much longer in line for the same service.

Alright, general recap- - Our morning was really nice, we had beautiful weather, I enjoyed myself, dbf and I got along great and my feet were starting to hurt less and less or at least I was getting used to the pain more and more. We were having so much fun that I forgot that I had a surprise for DBF being delivered to our room on this exact date. As much as I wanted to go back to the resort and freshen up before dinner, I was nervous that the surprise wouldn’t be in our room. I initially had wrote in my Pre-TR about getting dbf private lessons for Krav Maga, but because of our money situation, and other reasons etc, etc, I had to tell him. We decided that I wouldn’t get the lessons, and re-consider the idea for his birthday soon to come. Well… NOT:lmao: . I arranged to have the gift certificate mailed to the house, in an unmark envelop and kept it at work along with the card for a whole month until our trip. I also arranged for a bunch of balloons; white, black, red and yellow with two Mylar balloons of Mickey to be sent to the room. For some reason, when we got back to the hotel I was the first one in, I quickly pulled the card out of my side purse pocket and headed to the washroom. Dbf walked in while I was going to the washroom… and I couldn’t believe he didn’t even say anything or act like there was a surprise, right there for him. So finally, I was like geeezz… aren’t you going to open it. Arugh. I was a tab bit annoyed, I was so proud that I had gotten him a gift and arrange for the balloons. A sidebar that I hope Dgf doesn’t read – I was completely shocked when I saw the balloons coming into our room. I had NO IDEA what the gift was and she’d completely convinced me she’d returned the martial arts package. However, for whatever reason at the time, I thought it’d be amusing to pretend like balloons in the room were perfectly normal and try to ignore them as long as humanly possible. I think it got to the point I could actually See the steam coming out of her ears (a la Donald Duck) because she was so frustrated that I wasn’t reacting and that just made it more amusing for me… oh I’m not a good guy sometimes. But, once I got my fill of this amusement, I DID open it and had NO idea what it was even after I opened the card. I was thrilled and AMAZED that she managed to keep this secret so well for so long. Good job babe, you did really well and it was the sweetest gift ever. That was kind of mean, sweets. He eventually did open it, read the card, said thank you. I took a couple of pictures. The balloons were HUGE and absolutely beautiful. I got them through Peggy's Sweets and More, who is unfortunately out of business as she has accepted a position with the Mouse himself.

At 4:35 we were up by Classic Hall waiting for a bus back to DHS for our Fantasmic Dinner package at 5:15pm. I was so excited, this was our first ADR of the week.

purchases390.jpg

We arrived at Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano early and had only a maybe a 5-minute wait and we were seated. I love the atmosphere of this restaurant… it wasn’t loud and it was absolutely beautiful inside. It actually reminded me of the Italian restaurant in Lady and the Tramp, but with posters from pop culture movies on the walls. It was great and not overly loud or crowded. With the Fantasmic package, each person gets an appetizer, entrees, non-alcoholic drink, dessert as well as a voucher to have priority seating at that evenings Fantasmic Show. Just a small tip: You have to order absolutely everything right away: meaning you can’t simply order your appetizer and then take more time to decide on your entrée, and wait to order dessert after you have completed your entrée. Everything must be ordered before you even receive your appetizer. Alright to start, Dbf ordered the Artisan Breads and Spreads as his appetizer - freshly baked breads served with an arugula and chive pesto, sun-dried tomato, roasted vegetable and roasted garlic spreads. I ordered a Caesar salad and we both shared the appetizers. The breads are a nice idea if you’re going to share your appetizer. If I recall correctly, you do get bread on your table either way, but the spreads are nice.
purchases389.jpg

purchases391.jpg

Next up were our entrees, Dbf ordered the Charred Butcher Tender Steak, which is gorgonzola butter on roasted red pepper polenta, grilled asparagus and red wine reduction. Steak… in Disney… cooked properly (med rare) and it actually tasted like it had been properly marinated too. I was impressed, not just compared to park food, but compare it to any steakhouse I’ve been to. I ordered the Oven Baked Chicken alla Parmesan over spaghetti. It was delicious, but not my fav.
purchases392.jpg

purchases393.jpg

MmmMM.. Everything so far was delicious. I was so impressed with this restaurant especially with all the horrible reviews. Yeah, I’m not sure what experience gave the bad reviews. The food was good, the service was top notch and the atmosphere was a nice break from any chaos or noise outside. Next up was dessert, dbf ordered the Tiramisu and I ordered the Honey Hazelnut and Ricotta Cheesecake. Order the tiramisu .((No, order the Cheesecake;) ), I insist… even if you’re not a coffee drinker. It’s soo rich and sweet, soo good. My healthy eating didn’t matter after one bite of this dessert
purchases394.jpg

purchases395.jpg

We left the restaurant between 6:00pm-6:15pm. It took us around 1 hour to eat our dinner and I’m so glad we decided on Mama Melrose, I give it an A.

Well, since we still had a bunch of time before Fantasmic, we decided to try to catch a few more things around the park. Toy Story was still insanely busy, so we decided to try some of the less crowded attractions. Sounds Dangerous is an audio-visual show starring Drew Carey. We had never been to it before, but it seemed interesting. Basically, you sit in a small theatre with headphones on and listen to Drew Carey wandering around as a private detective. I used to work in home theatre, so I would have expected that if the show was almost completely based on your auditory experience that they would have had hi-tech surround sound headphones… instead they looked like a $5 set of airplane headphones. The show was a little anticlimactic, and although it had a few laughs, I’d probably skip it to stand in line for something you really want to see.

After that, we wandered around Hollywood Blvd for a while, Dgf snapped some photos and we cruised through a bunch of the shops. Since we had bought the Fantasmic package, we had special access to get into the show early and reserved seats. The show started at 8pm, so our waitress had told us to be there about 7:15 to get decent seats. Dgf, on the other hand acted like she would have set up camp around noon if they’d let her. I figured going in at 7pm would have been a good compromise, especially since the benches at these shows are uncomfortable aluminum and I was not looking forward to exposing my bony butt to that for longer than necessary. Of course, just before we were about to enter, Not just before we were about to enter, like 30 minutes before.. I remember walking around for 30 minutes looking for a washroom that did not have a line up out the door. Dgf needed to use the restroom, so I had to map-hunt for one of those. Note to future park guests – the map STINKS for identifying washroom locations, since the picture on the map is the equivalent size of three buildings on the map scale. By the time we got in our side entrance it was still around 7pm, no it was after 7:10pm but the rush to enter had started early and half the theatre was already full. To say this ‘angered’ Dgf would be an understatement. I would call it meltdown and my fault. She had wanted to sit dead center in the theatre, but the reserved section was the left quarter of the seating, not the center, and that had been already filled by guests who’d stood in line without the Fantasmic package. Yes, I wanted to sit dead center of the theatre. I wanted to see the show dead center for once. I kept asking dbf to go and get our seats; but he kept saying NO, its too early, NO don’t worry we’ll get good seats. So when we arrived in the theatre, via the private entrance for the Fantasmic package guest and the theatre was FULL. I was shocked and so disappointed. All the seats were practically taken EXCEPT for the seats equal to ours just on the left side. Arugh.

Just to add to her mood, people were ducking under the ropes to our reserved section to find seats. It really did feel like the Fantasmic package was a waste, (It was a waste) in my opinion, because your seats are no better than anyone who entered for free, and once you’re inside, there are no CMs stopping people from entering the reserved area anyway. Either way, I was the evil villain that night and Dgf wasn’t letting me off the hook. We were about halfway up the theatre (correct height) but we were about ¾ of the way around the theatre, which was nowhere near center enough for her liking. Suffice to say that that hour waiting for the show to begin was my LONGEST hour of the week. Yes, the fight was petty, however, I just wanted dbf to start listening to my opinions and possibly if we would have went to get our seats when I had originally asked: we may have had good seats.

Fantasmic itself did not disappoint though. On a calmer day it would have been even better – that way the walls of water would have stayed vertical rather than spraying towards us – but the videos on the water and the live action show was amazing. Fireworks, flame effects, giant villains and all your favourite heros and princesses – it’s a requirement for any guest to see AT LEAST once.

Afterwards, we wandered down Hollywood boulevard up towards pixar place snapping a few more photos before the security officers herded everyone towards the entrance and we began our trek back to the resort. I truly fell in love with this park, especially at night. It looks absolutely beautiful. I don’t think we waited more than 15 minutes that night, but it’s hard to recall. Yah, it was a short wait. I know that DHS wasn’t the worst park for transportation, but it definitely wasn’t the best. After that, it was a short bus ride home and a quick trip to bed… exhaustion had completely set in and I think both of our moods could use 6-8 hours of sleep.

Next up: Day 4 - - Magic Kingdom.:cloud9: :lovestruc (Those two words should be enough but: Our first Dole Whip: did we like it?)

That was one hell of an update :thumbsup2

A few things...
- Your DBF hasn't seen Beauty and the Beast?!?! :scared1: You must rectify that immediately! My poor DBF has seen that movie more times then any 26-year-old man probably ever should :rotfl:

- You got some killer pictures of Beauty and the Beast, you had pretty much perfect seats from the looks of it.

- Toy Story Mania looks and sounds like it was blast. I'm still dying to go on it myself :sad2:

- Your surprise for your DBF was so sweet. Tell him though that acting so nonchalant when your DGF surprises you with a killer present usually isn't that funny for the DGF. My own DBF knows this from prior experience :rotfl:

- Your food at Mamma Melrose's looks soooo good. Especially the bread and those desserts. Its nice to finally hear a good review and I'm glad you guys had a good experience there.

- And lastly, DBF and I definitely have had that same fight over lining up early. I'm always the one who wants to get in line for shows/parades/fireworks super early, while he would rather show up 5 minutes before it starts and hope for the best :confused3 (mind you that has only worked about 3 times, tops)

Can't wait to hear the rest. I hope you guys like Dole Whips, they're my favorite

:goodvibes I am LOVING your TR!!! :goodvibes What a great idea having both of you share in the telling of what happened. It's the first time I've seen this, and I really think it adds so much to getting the full picture of your trip. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Three thumbs up for creative thinking!

I totally understand about the scooters and bus thing. I don't mind it, as long as people are considerate. But, I do hate it when situations like the one you mentioned happens. It isn't fair.

Your pics are all great. I can't wait to read more!!! :surfweb: I still have a month and nearly three weeks to go, so I'm dying for more details.

I found your trip report today and can't wait for the next installment! :thumbsup2

Im glad your here... I'm working on Day 4 this week.

The start of every school year is always crazy for me, as I get back into a routine. Now, I can manage to come online more often again. :yay:

You're already wanting to go away again? I don't blame you, especially since you love WDW. It's so hard to come home and not begin planning your next trip. At least you are going again, in less than a year. The time goes fast. Before you know it, it will be January, after all the holidays, and you'll be that much closer to going!

Between finishing this TR and starting a new one for the next trip, you'll be going back to WDW again!!! :woohoo:

I can't wait to see your pearl pics. Yes, please post them for me here and on my PTR. I would really appreciate it.

:surfweb: I can't wait to read more about your trip. It's helping me with the waiting process. :surfweb:
