September 29, 2012 - Ropin' Some Magic in the Western Caribbean

I was looking at some personal navigators that I found online (W.Caribbean on the Fantasy) and they say that the safety drill is at 4:00 pm. I think that's the case on all the ships. It also said that all services in all areas of the ship stop operating at 3:45...so that everyone can go to the safety drill.

My question is should we do the Dis meet a little before 3:00 or will 45 min. be enough? We could probably do it at 2:30-2:45 if we needed more time. I don't know. I just noticed the safety drill stuff so I thought I'd ask what everyone else thought.

We have heard zero about our home. It should be dry. If we get water, most of our friends will have several feet in theirs. We've been told at least a week before power will be restored. Glad I got the cruise stuff done early. We have the sewing machine with us and will make up the pirate costume for DS while we are here. Guess our Hurrication will be an extended one.

We did find out that my Great Aunt in her 70's has 5 feet of water in her home. :( Totally heartbreaking, but she was not home and is safe. The 'stuff' can be replaced.

Still no word from my dad. We know he is ok. He is working his tail off to prevent as much home flooding as he can. Worried about him and would love to hear his voice!

Our prayers are with your family.

If I am allergic to shellfish, would a Palo Brunch be worth booking? Most of what I have read is how great the shrimp, etc. is at the brunch. What is at this that would be worth attending if I can't eat mango, cashew, shellfish?

They have something for everyone... there is an awesome desert buffet... amazing appetizers, unbelievable deserts, great choice of entrees... ohh and did I mention the deserts? LOL Really... it is a must not miss event.

Thoughts and prayers for you and your family. Let's hope this is the last hurricane we have to deal with this year.....

I dunno, I have always thought 3 pm was perfect because it gives everyone more time to board & have lunch, get their stateroom, then pop in for the meet before the drill... & it has always seemed to be enough time to exchange info, note any room changes for FE, break the ice a bit...lol Just my 2 cents!!

Also, you were wondering about times for the dining room lunch...
assuming you mean the one in Lumiere's it is noon - 1:30, so kind of a small window, but a lovely environment!! A buffet lunch will be served in the restaurant, Parrot Cay and it goes a bit longer.

:hippie:

I'd prefer to meet at 3:00. You're probably right...45min. should be enough time to update any room changes and meet everyone.

Thanks for the lunch times. I think we should try to meet at Parrot Cay for a homeschool chat over lunch on Monday since they're open a little longer. What do you other homeschoolers think?

Thanks for the info on Palo brunch.

I think 45 minutes should be enough time also. Any earlier and I'm not sure people will have enough time to get to cabins and situated--any later and we may run into the drill and sail away.

Tomorrow is when the latecomers FE group closes. I'll write CLOSED on the bottom and you'll know that is all

People in the first 4 groups can print out their information. There won't be any additions to the groups. If you are in the latecomers group, you can print out any time after Friday!

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!

Oh goodness...I was thinking about your family when I saw.the news reports. And I hope you are sewing yourself a Super Mom cape! You brought the sewing machine so you could finish a costume for your son? How amazing are you?!?

I think I finally found what I am going to wear on pirate night. Not a traditional store bought costume just a blouse and a skirt but I think I can make it work. Now I just need some accessories! :)

I cannot believe our cruise is less than a month away now! Time is flying by!
:woohoo:

Haha- NO cape for me. The machine belongs to my mom, and she doesn't ever evacuate without it. It is not a cheap machine so it goes in the car first. Still have not sewed a thing..... (fish extender or costume) DH is heading home now to check things out. Walgreens has power and has re-opened so off he went to our hot, dark home. We did hear from Dad and he was able to walk around the houses. We have very minor damage on the exterior. He didn't have time to go inside, but it appears we faired very well. Mom's house appears to have ZERO damage. Still have tears over my aunt's home. It will be a long few months for her, but we have plenty of family and she'll be well taken care of.

If I had a sewing machine I would totally make you a cape and put it in your FE :)

Sorry I haven't been on here much, things have been crazy! Our AC unit broke this week, definitely an expense we didn't need at this point with the wedding, cruise and disney world trip coming up. No fun! We got it all worked out but it's been a stressful week.

I have 4 more FE gifts to finish, and most of the FE packages are packed up in a box. I'm wondering if that's the best way to bring it, it's a HUGE box and we don't have a suitcase big enough to carry it all.

I think next weekend I'm gonna start packing up all my other cruise stuff

I'm so excited! I'm ready for the wedding to be over with so we can just enjoy the honeymoon!:cloud9:

I don't know how you are getting everything done with a wedding too. If you are driving to the port then a box is fine. You can take some boxes on the plane but there is a bigger chance of it not making it than if it where a suitcase.

I'm so glad you and your Mom's homes appear safe and sound. So sorry for your aunt. I know she is blessed to have you. When do you get to go home?

We got power back today so we get to go home in the morning!!! :moped: 4-5 hour drive depending on how much water/debris we find along the way. Very ready to be in my own bed. We have been very blessed this time. Can't wait to get back and help out many friends with roof damage. (Keeping kids, fixing meals, all the stuff neighbors do in Louisiana!) Call us crazy, but we love South Louisiana!

You all have been a huge encouragement to me! Thank You all so much. Can't wait to meet all of you.

(I think dealing with a storm is better than a wedding!!!! LOL Good luck with all that)

CHAMPAGNE GIRLS "BEAUTIES AND THE BEASTS" EVENT..... If you are signed up for this event please make sure you added your reservation number. I must have that to order your tickets. I have counted 18 tasters. We need 25 in order to get the tastings. So if you have not signed up please do so ASAP as time is running out for me to make arrangements with Disney. I have already been in contact with them. If we do not have 25 paying tasters than we will still have the event. It will be more of a social type event and you will just order the drink of choice and pay as you go.
