September 29, 2012 - Ropin' Some Magic in the Western Caribbean

Hi everyone... I just found out about DIS forums! This will be our first Disney Cruise and are all super excited about. I would love any information or tips. I also found out about the meeting on the first day. How do I know who to look for? LOL

I also wanted to ask if anyone has kids my kids ages. Our oldest is a boy he is 11 years old, our middle is a girl she is 6 years old and our yougest is a girl she is 3 years old!

We also homeschool and would love to meet some other homeschoolers but we would love to meet new familes even if they aren't homeschoolers.

Hope to hear from some people soon!!!!

Welcome to the board, Taunya! My oldest son is 11 also. He'll be thrilled to find out there's another 11 yr old boy. We're not homeschoolers, we're just sneaking our kids out of school for the week :rotfl2:

Those who are pulling kids out of school, are you up front with their teachers, do they just take the unexcused abscences, do you let them know ahead of time? I'm not really sure how to handle it.

My son will be really excited too!! Are you going to the meet before we leave? If not we should see about meeting up so the boys can meet.

Taunya, welcome!

Tips are automatically charged to your on board account. They are $84 for the week (per person--including children.) You can go to guest services to adjust tips up or down and you can add cash to anyone's tip if you wish. The children's club are non-tipped positions.

We will know each other at the meet and greet by our tshirts. We will be wearing red shirts with an iron-on graphic on them. If you want the graphic, let me know your email and I will send it to you.

We have 4 other 11 year old boys that I know of as well as a 12 year old boy. ...several 11 year old girls, too.

I believe the homeschoolers are planning their own lunch. Read back a few pages to get the details.

We are also planning a champagne and beer tasting. Sign up here:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjT2D3FyenWQdDNrQjJoVzRPSGQ2UGltLTRaWklkckE#gid=0. Don't forget your reservation number.

If you have any other questions, just ask. I'm sure someone can help.

Thank you so much for all the information.... So how many people at $85?
It won't let me post my email yet... but I will try coding it... lol its my name Taunya... + 80 then @ yahoo

I signed my husband and myself for the tasting already, but didn't put in our reservation number. I will go back and make sure I put that in!

I am really happy that our oldest will be able to meet some kids the very first day!!

Question 1# how do I order costume door magnets?

Question 2# How much is the laundry?

Question 3# How much spending money should we plan on? not including the port stuff.

I think that's if for now!!! Thank you for all your help!

My daughter will turn 6 just a few days before we get on the boat...she's an only child and LOVES making new friends!

Before I fully committed to this cruise I called my daughter's school (she was in pre-k at the time) and asked what the policy was for taking her out for so many days for a vacation. Not only is her school okay with it, the days she's gone will be excused. There was another post on the main forums about this and many say that they have had no probs taking their kids out but that they were considered unexcused...Our school district may be a bit more forgiving... VERY small school (total of 39 kids in her class this year) and when my husband was in school he said that a lot of kids were EXCUSED from school to help on the family farms during planting/harvesting time...(we live in a VERY rural area, I was told 90% of the kids ride the bus). I hope your school is as lenient as ours!

We will be pulling kids out of kinder, 2nd, and 4th grades. This is our 2nd time pulling kids out (we did it last year as well for a pre-christmas trip to Disney World). In my personal opinion its better to be early and upfront. If nothing else the kids talk an its better they hear it from a parent than as playground gossip (which gives the impression you were trying to hide it). We approach the teacher a few weeks in advance and give them the dates. We ask for any homework they can do in advance and turn in prior to leaving rather than make up so that the teacher is not waiting on us to close out an assignment. We have received positive results this way. Like anything it won't work for every teacher every time.

Hope this helps.

We finally received our cruise documents. Thanks to you all I called our TA on Wednesday to find out and was told the envelope was in the mail. Sure enough, the first of the three envelopes arrived on Wednesday and the other two were here Friday. :yay: I've added to our Disney staging area

I'm finally getting to the FE stuff this weekend. This is my first solo sewing attempt since making Mickey Mouse curtains from a sheet for our youngest when he was a toddler. He is of drinking age now ;) I'll have the first FE 95% done tonight and plan to cut out the second one before midnight.

CHAMPAGNE GIRLS "BEAUTIES AND THE BEASTS" EVENT..... If you are signed up for this event please make sure you added your reservation number. I must have that to order your tickets. I have counted 18 tasters. We need 25 in order to get the tastings. So if you have not signed up please do so ASAP as time is running out for me to make arrangements with Disney. I have already been in contact with them. If we do not have 25 paying tasters than we will still have the event. It will be more of a social type event and you will just order the drink of choice and pay as you go.

Added our reservation number! Thanks again for organizing this.

Welcome Taunya and family :) No homeschoolers in our family group, but I'm hoping we might see one son's family try it out this next year.

We homeschool. My kids are 14 and 9. Someone suggested a homeschool chat so I'm trying to get a group of homeschoolers together to meet for lunch on the Monday of our cruise when we are at sea so we can chat about homeschooling. I was thinking of meeting in the Parrot Cay dining room for lunch. Usually the dining rooms aren't very crowded at lunch. Not sure on the time yet. Anyone have an opinion about that? I think Parrot Cay serves lunch until 1:30 or 2:00. Also, would y'all like it to be parents or parents and kids too? Assuming the kids will leave the kids area! :)

Regarding the meeting on the first day we are making T shirts. There's a graphic that we are ironing on red Tshirts. If you ask Piper can email it to you. (Sorry, if this has been answered already.)

I just read today that you can even charge the tips to your account up to 3 days before your cruise. The Passporter says the following for a 7 nt. cruise...Dining room server $28, Dining Room Asst. server: $21, Dining Room Head server: $7, Stateroom host/hostess: $28. I believe these numbers are per guest althought that seems like a lot to me. Our last cruise was a 3 night though so the tips were obviously less for that one.

Door magnets...I made my own by printing off graphics that I found on the internet and laminating them. There are some people on the disboards that make custom designs. I don't have the links offhand though, but if you search our thread they are on there somewhere.

Laundry...here's a link that should give you an idea. http://www.*******************/laundry.htm This website won't come through when I copy and paste it. In place of the *** type in disney cruiser . info with none of the spaces. This site has some useful info...I wish it would let me copy and paste!

Spending money...Everything on the ship is pretty much included in the cost. Alcohol is extra and so is the spa. Then, there are souvenirs if you want anything like that. If you got onboard credit when you booked you can use that for anything you purchase. Everything is charged on your key to the world card.

Hope this helps!

Prices for tipping is right... for the 3 of us it was $252 total, and I prepaid them when I booked the trip so I didn't have to worry about it later :) Altho...when they gave me an upgrade the lady accidentally deleted the prepaid gratuities, but after calling them back for like the millionth time they put them back on for free ... well not really free since I paid for them from the get go... but ya know :P But yeah you can pay for them well in advance :)

The washers are $2 and the dryers are $2. Not very big washers but not too small either. Detergent is $2 also I think. I usually bring some Purex 3 in 1 sheets... covers washer, dryer and softener.

Door magnets can be printed on magnetic paper as well. or just cut out or print what you want and add magnets to the back. No tape allowed.

Things you may spend $$ on are.. spa, alcohol, (soda is free), bingo, alcohol tastings, souvenirs, and special room services. Most are free.

Don't forget to bring your pirates costumes for the pirate party.

We also have graphics for T shirts for the Champagne Girls "Beauties and the Beasts event.
