September 2011 - The Planning Continues! (2nd Thread)

question for all you who have done alot of dining. A friend of mine says he's dined at AKL before and it was a a blast. Crazy restaurant where you ask for ketchup they yell out for someone's ketchup, need crayons-just ask and people get up from their tables to give u the ones they aren't using. Horse race (on stick ponies) around the restaurant...anyone know where he is talking...said he couldn't remember the name but said it was so much fun and the kids loved it!! HELP!!

Can't say I have ate there but sounds more like Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge

It's Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge. We ate here last year and it was TONS of fun. My DS drank his drink really quick because he was so thirsty,,,he asked for a refill and they brought him a Huge glass with a really long straw, had him stand up and announced to the dinig room that if any in the restaurant were to see him in the pool later that they should be advised to leave because he may pee in the pool

So my friend is asking me some great places for his family to pick for their dining plan. I know what I have and of course I picked a few based on charcters. However regardless if they have a character, please tell me ur must have dinings(TS) and why>???

Warning... long post ahead!

I've been planning our first Disney trip since last summer and now our plans may be going up in smoke! :sad1:

I had rented DVC points through an ebay auction. I checked the seller's feedback, which was excellent, and once the auction was complete (and 100% paid for), I had great communication with the seller and received a confirmation and thought all was well. In December of 2010 I had to make some changes and contacted him and he took care of everything, always being so friendly and helpful. Well I stumbled across a thread on the DIS yesterday from someone talking about renting from an ebay seller who had literally disappeared since her auction and confirmation process... and it was the same seller as I booked thorugh! One of the posters had tried to contact his family, past place of employment and even the local police dept. in his town and he just seems to have vanished. I had emailed him again back in March and hadn't heard back yet, but I knew he had a couple different jobs and was busy, and my question wasn't all that important, so hadn't been too concerned. I sent another email last night but doubt I'll hear back from him.

Currently, my reservation still shows on the DVC website as current, so I have my fingers crossed that we'll still get the room we paid for. Unfortunately, he had told me to contact him when I was ready to add the dining plan and I hadn't done that yet, so even if we do get the DVC reservations we won't be able to add the DDP. And, if he ends up not paying his annual maintenance fees, DVC can cancel all of his upcoming reservations. And since he isn't responding to anything, I find it doubtful he's keeping up on these bills.

I plan to check the DVC reservation site weekly to see if my reservation is still there, but from what I understand it can be canceled at anytime until our arrival. Even when we arrive, if it shows that he has past due maint. fees, it's possible they won't let me check in. So right now I need a backup plan. I think what we're going to do is book at Pop also and do it now with the free dining promotion, so at least we have somewhere to stay if we get down there and our AKL and BLT reservations are gone.

I guess I've learned my lesson. I know there's always a risk on ebay, but I thought I was so careful with checking references and feedback. And there are dozens of other people, even on the DIS, that have rented points through the same seller and had successful vacations.

I'm just sick right now. I've been so excited for this vacation. I booked the points in July 2010! I'm trying to stay positive and remember that we can still have a magical vacation, but I can't help but think I'll be spending 10 days at Pop Century thinking, gee, I sure wish I was enjoying the AKL savannah or BLT right now since I paid for it!

Anybody have any advice... or at least want to keep your fingers crossed for pixie dust for me :rotfl2:

Okay, long rambling vent-post over.

Oh my gosh I'd be freaking out and worried sick! Making another ressie at POP is a good backup plan, but remember you'll have to pay in full and won't get your money back if you wait until you check in at AKL/BLT to cancel your POP ressie. It's too bad Disney can't make some sort of exception since this guy is ripping people off.....like allow you to cancel the back up ressie if you ARE able to check in at AKL/BLT afterall. :flower3: It might be going out on a limb, but have you tried calling them to see if that's a possibility? :confused3

We have a lunch ADR at Whispering Canyon the day we disembark the Disney Dream and check in at WL! Can't wait! Sounds fun!! :goodvibes

yeah I have to do that to cause my girls won't know....I will have to tell Syd we are going to my aunt's in Tampa cause she will be in a different building all together for middle school and will wanna prepare herself. Nelia, I already know what I will have for her cause she will have the same teacher Syd had for primamry multiage so she will finish it all on the plane ride to DC!

We almost always take vacations during the school year, but I try to limit the days I take the kids out if it's a possibility to do so.

After much planning, REplanning, and double checking......I've decided to leave our ressies alone. The FD promo doesn't save us any money, in fact, it will cost us about $100 more (because of the book). I can't give up my DxDP, so I would have to still do the upgrade. Gotta have DxDP! For awhile I was thinking I could do 3 days at POP before our cruise and 3 days after the cruise at WL, but each of those would require park tickets to get the FD, and it's cheaper to just get park tickets for the entire trip on ONE ressie because they more days, the cheaper it is. I'd have to pay a couple hundred dollars more to put park tickets on each leg of our trip just for the FD. I forgot about the park ticket rule when I was scheming and plotting to change things up a bit. Oh well! So.....we will still be checking out and heading home on the 12th.....so no MNSSHP for us. :sad1:

Ooooh, I just realized I'm under the 4 month mark now!!! We check in at POP on Sept 3rd!!! Woo hoo!!! This deserves the good 'ole banana dance!

When we ate at Whispering Canyon, we knew it was "fun", but we didn't know what we were getting into to! I am a ketchup fanatic and my DH drinks refills constantly, so this is what we ended up with. They collected ketchup from around the room (loudly) and you can see the jug of lemonade they gave my DH, compared to my OJ cup. It's one of those places you should try once, but you can't be timid about going there!

Since you are allowed to check the status of your reservation, are you also allowed to cancel it? Or does that have to be done through the seller?

I would definitely create a backup vacation with the free dining promotion. I believe cancellation penalties start at 45 days out. I would pay attention to any cancellation dates with your new vacation package, so that you know when you've hit the point of no return. If you can cancel the DVC trip, I personally would. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. I wouldn't worry about not getting a DVC stay, I would just want to know we are staying somewhere at Disney!

And I see you've already paid in full, which I assume means you would have to get your money back from the seller. If you are able to get in touch with the seller, I would try to cancel and get your money back. Even if the seller gives some good reason, you don't want to be scared again closer to the trip. So I would still create a backup vacation in case!

Ughh, sorry to hear all this!

I've never been to WCC. I've read about the antics but that is too funny!

Jodebode - :sad1: I agree with thereyouseeher, if you can find a way out I'd go for it. You don't want to have to spend your days leading up to the vaca sick with worry

Thereyouseeher - All restaurants should give my DH a cup that big. It would save the servers a lot of time ..... WCC looks fun, I have it on my list for restaurants to try if we have free dining next time we go.

Mikella - Under four months dance

Well. Did you contact ebay directly? Did you pay with a credit card that protects you against fraud? I might try both those outlets.

DVC rental is so expensive (we are staying at Kidani village and I also rented points) the difference is, I rented through a friend I've had since high school. She didn't want to take the money but I bullied her into it.

The guy you rented from, do you have the ability to contact the people who were happy with him? Was more than one poster on the boards dissatisfied?

Good luck with this, it's a miserable situation to be in!

There you see her - I just noticed your AOA Dec 2012 trip planned in your siggy. Nov/Dec at AOA is my ideal next trip as well lol Maybe we'll be on another planning thread together :thumbsup2

I agree. Try to pursue any recourse with Ebay, Paypal, or your credit card company. It's worth a shot!
