September 2011 - The Planning Continues! (2nd Thread)

I HATE open seating on airlines and I'm starting to panic a bit. It wasn't a huge deal before (though it's still awful because I'm claustrophobic and always manage to get squeezed in the seat between two people who refuse to move seats).

Now that I'm pregnant though, I feel even more of a need to be near my husband so if I start panicking about something, he can help calm me down and if something were to start going wrong, he can help me get help. There's also the baby-on-the-bladder issue and I really hate asking people to get up so I can go to the bathroom.

I just...people can be so rude on airplanes. On our last open-seating flight, we were practically begging people to move so I could sit next to my husband and nobody would do it. On the same flight, there was a mom who had to sit separately from her 8 year old daughter because nobody would move.

So yeah...panicking a little... :scared1:

We flew Airtran in 2010 and I honestly don't remember paying extra for assigned seating....I know we all three sat together. When do u do this? I did my flight with my package last time and this time and I think last year I had to Call WDW to get my code info so I could do my 24 online check-in.....guess I will have to do this again. :confused3 darn memory.....:headache:

We flew Airtran in 2009 and didn't do this either. This year we booked through Disney so I wasn't made aware of the option to do this. This is the first I heard of it and I just went on and checked. Our flights do not have ANY two seats together. There are several rows where the middle is reserved and the window and aisle are available--who picks to sit in the middle seat?! I am so upset because I do NOT want to have a lap toddler by myself and I'm sure my husband doesn't either. I am really upset.

I had the option to choose my seats when I booked, but we decided at that time not to pick seats. I just did it though. You go to "My Account", log in, then on the left click "my bookings, then click "view" on your itinerary. Once you are into your itinerary I'd make sure everything is correct there. On the right hand side you can click on "change seats". That is where you have the option to pick the seats you want if you haven't done so already. Regular seats are $6 to pick and priority seats are $13 to pick. We decided that it was worth the money for piece of mind. I don't want us to get split up and I don't want to have to rely on others to move when they may not want to. I already feel less stressed!!!

I'm glad you are feeling better about it! Peace of mind is really worth it! :wizard:

I think you made a good choice! :goodvibes

AACK this is driving me crazy. I do not have the option of booking seats together for the "peace of mind" and it is just making me sick.

Oh no!!!! I wish I knew some way to help you!

I agree that it is really weird that people chose the middle seat. Are there seats open on opposite sides in a row? Window and an aisle? Maybe the person in the middle would move over? :confused3

 It will be ok!

I think that those middle seats aren't really reserved by someone yet, I do believe Airtran does hold some seats back and these may be them. I would choose the window and aisle seat in the same row and if someone does happen to sit in that middle seat, you can ask them if they would prefer to sit in the aisle or window and I'll bet they'd say yes and then you and your Dh could have the other two seats next to each other (one of them being the middle seat...because nobody wants those middle seats ;) LOL)

I really think you'll be fine :wizard:

I am starting to feel like ours will never come. :rolleyes1 We still have a month to go, but everyone's excitment has me wanting ours to come NOW! :rotfl:

Oh that's true!!! We used a travel agent, so I know that adds a little to the time. I think I am going to start stalking the mail carrier! :lmao:

I think I'm just excited for it all to come because it will feel THAT much more real. If that makes any sense! ;):lmao:

Yes with airtran I always get the seats. We are flying SW and I'm paying the 40.00 for the return flight for early bird check in. I won't have access to a computer so it will be worth it.

Yeah!!

Well all day today I'm stressed over Irene. It is looking alot better now for our trip than it was last night. I need this vacation so bad. I told dh next year I don't care what the cost. I'm closing down for 2 weeks. One week of vacation just isn't enough. I still don't have myself packed but need to do laundry and I haven't ventured to the laundry room today, I will do that tommorow. My swimsuits are washed and are drying. I going to do my laundry on Wednesday and get it packed Thursday. Everything else but the last minutes stuff is packed.
4 more work days 4 more work days.

Travel agents always take longer. We didn't go through a travel agent this time, but we haven't gotten our stuff yet either. I haven't even gotten magical express info yet. I think last time we got it at 35 days out and that is right around the corner.

Do you guys know there is a chat feature on the DIS? I'm on it once in awhile, now more so that my trip is getting closer. Most people are on between 8:00 and 10:00pm EST. Its on the top blue nav bar with white writing. It's the second option from the left. Just click "chat" and then you can log in. Once you are logged in you can click on the first chat room. I'm actually there tonight! :) Come join me!

This should answer your questions. You will just be able to pay for them at the resort. :thumbsup2:

Thanks...got the info

How is Resort Airline Check–in affected by airline baggage fees?

Fees vary by airline. Guests should inquire with their specific airline as to what fees might apply. Guests must contact Baggage Airline Guest Services at (407) 284-1231 to pay any airline fees in advance of visiting the Resort Airline Check-In desk, which will have a record of the payment transaction. Airline luggage fees cannot be collected at the check-in desk. Guests under age 18 must have parent or guardian permission to call.

I think I might have to do this on this trip, I have never done it before and I think it would be a great souvenier for me

Hey all......well since Norma and Robin haven't come to announce it...I will
Our group got ----wait for it, wait for it
Mickey Mail!!!!!!

I got both the resort stuff and the magical express stuff!! Yeah me!!

As for the airlines thing---just have your hubby seat you and say---man honey I hope you don't vomit like last time, especially since this time your pregnant. :rotfl: They are bound to move. It can work for kids too!!

Well off to read a bit O'dis. Then bed!!! Nighty night!

I don't know how but I got a billion pages behind and have been reading page after page, after page to catch up! So excited everyone's trips are so close. We don't leave till the very end of September so you all have me so excited.

What are the top 3-5 food/drink items you are most looking forward to at WDW? popcorn::

-Tye-Dye Cheesecake
-Some kind of yummy goodness cupcake from Starring Rolls
-Dole Whip-LOVE THEM!!!
-F&W Food (not sure which booth(s) but Yum-o)

I am the exact same way! We definitely pack two shirts a day and I usually pack a sundress for the evening.

What do you ladies (and September veterans) suggest in ways of makeup?
I'm not a huge makeup wearer to begin with, but do you see the benefits of doing some eye make up and some powder or foundation each day?

I am all about pictures and look terrible without some sort of eye makeup. So that is a must; mineral base but I'm sure that will melt off.

We have a bit of a dilemma... We've never flown Airtran before, and actually haven't flown in over 5 years. Anyway, we have the option to choose our seats before for $48. Do we really need to spend that money or do you think we'll be fine with seats when we get there? Our only must is that one adult must be sitting with one child, other than that we don't really need to be sitting next to each other. How do they assign seats if we don't pay? Are we able to choose our seats when we do the 24 hr in advance check-in? Help! :confused3 I'm so confused. I really don't want to waste the money if we don't have to.

I think you made a wise choice. We have flown Airtran numerous times in the past and NEVER paid for picking seat; we always ended up in the last 5 rows of the plane and it was SUPER loud. This is the first time we paid and I want us to all be together but really I didn't want poor DD's ears to have to suffer.

:rotfl: That is the best!!! She should totally use it!
