September 2, 2012 - Magic - NYC to Canada

Glad to know DL is still on the list for some people:cool1:

Anniepopcorn::

I have been to WDW about 20 times and DL twice. There are lots of similarities and lots of differences. Some of the differences make it really special... here are some of the best differences:
  • Walk from park to park to DTD and Hotels - no busses or trams! Saves at least one hour per day vs WDW
  • Many attractions are better at DL: Small World, Pirates, Space Mountain, etc
  • Some attractions can only be be found at DL: Indiana Jones, Mr. Toad, Storybookland
  • Much easier to get dining reservations (granted the variety is not as great as WDW)
  • In-N-Out burger nearby

I wish DW was a better flier. If so I would do DL and WDW once a year each.

Im really glad there are the differances. The layout is the same but even the look of the rides are different: Big Thunder Mountain and ...others.
I have no idea how many times we've been to DL. All I know its been more the 50 years worth! Oooops... Im giving away my age!:rotfl2:
So glad you had fun:banana:

We booked this one while we were on our cruise to Alaska and are looking forward to it. We're going to Hawaii with DCL in April, but we live in NY and didn't want to miss the chance of going to Canada with DCL. Now I can't wait till the 2013 itineraries come out. :dance3:

Hey there. We are from Milton just down the road from you. We plan on driving down. We did the drive last summer and found it not that bad at all. It's all highway if you cross at the Queenston Lewiston bridge.

Usually my husband will do all the driving so this would be my first big driving trip .... what is the 1/2 way point ???? a nice place to stop for lunch..... and are you staying at a hotel prior to the cruise ???? We have never been to NEW YORK and thought that maybe we could go in a day or two before ..... check out a few of the sites.....

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I haven't been on the boards that much lately. Soooo busy around here with other things!!

The half way point is around Syracuse. There are a lot of service areas along the I90. As for a nice place to have lunch I don't know, we pulled off just past Syracuse and ate fast food. We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Seacacus NJ for our trip and then just went into the city from there. It's just across the river and didn't take us long to get in via the Lincoln Tunnel. Also it was about half the price compared to staying the city and the parking was free!!

Hope this helps. Good luck! :goodvibes

This thread has been soooo quiet lately. Where is everybody?? :confused3

Looks like we will be joining you all on this cruise too!

My husband and I just booked this one while on the Dream last week. This will be our 6th Disney Cruise (yay, finally gold!!)!! We're leaving the kids at home this time!

We have never been to NYC before and would love some pointers from those who have, or from those who have already made their own plans and could possibly help us out. Here's what we are thinking:

-fly in from Memphis on 9/1 and spend the night somewhere cheap, clean, and somewhat near the port
-cruise 9/2-9/7
-stay in NYC somewhere on 9/7 and 9/8, and see the WTC memorial, SoL, Times Square, Central Park and perhaps a show (I know that's a lot to cram in a few days though).

Questions:

1. Where should we stay on 9/1, and how do we get there from the airport? Which airport should we fly in on?
2. How do we get to the port the next morning (disney transfers or some way less expensive)?
3. Specific excursions for the Canadian ports?
4. Hotel recommendations for 9/7 and 9/8, based on the things we want to do in NYC?

Thanks--I'm a total newbie on all this NYC stuff but I'm a bit of a control freak with vacations so I feel like I NEEEED to know all this stuff now. :-)

Sounds like our plans match up with your plans!! We are looking into all the same things you mentioned and I have the same questions you do! Anyone have any advice?

I haven't been anywhere East except WDW in over 20 years! :rotfl:

I have been to NYC only once back in 2010 so I can't answer a lot of your questions. In fact I'm curious about most things myself that you asked. We plan on driving from Ontario Canada once again so I'm not sure about airports. We stayed in Secaucus NJ at the Embassy Suites and drove into the city from there. Great place we may use it again in September.
