September 12, 2009 ~ Last Call for Tortola! Thread 2

Hi All!
Thanks to my DMIL for introducing me to the site and for all the info about the intinerary for the cruise (We are starting to get the priate costumes ready). DH and I were engaged on the Wonder in September 2006 and will be cruising again for Totrola (WOO HOO!!!), this time bringing along our 9 month old daughter. Any suggestions from families who have cruised with children under or around age 1 would be greatly appreciated. We found out about Babies Travel Lite to help out with stocking the room with all of her diapers/food/bath & sun needs etc for less to haul down. Ideas and suggestions greatly appreicated!!

We went on our first cruise in May 2009 and are thinking about going again with you guys in Sept. We have a Cat. 12 right now. How many people are in Cat. 12 rooms as of now?

We were booked for a Cat. 12 in May and got bumped up to a Cat. 9 :thumbsup2

:welcome: and I'm glad you're joining us!

:guilty: Today just stinks!! :guilty: I feel so helpless between my DH, my Dad and my FIL all having a yuky today, and I can't help any of them..

:sad1:

I knew this was going to be a bad one today for DH, but I wasn't even thinking how hard it was going to be on our "Dads" too :sad2:

Now that things have calmed down, we've had a rough weekend. We found out yesterday that our boxer, Ozzy has boxer cardiomyopathy (heart disease). We came pretty close to losing him yesterday. Luckily we got him to specialty clinic and they were able to get his heart under control. We were able to bring our baby home today. He'll be on meds for the rest of his life, but we'll take that over the alternative.

Hello everyone - we have been kind of MIA for awhile. For some that we have cruised with in the past, you may remember that my father has Parkinson's and unfortunately his condition has declined. My parents have moved from SoCal into our home in Arizona and we have recently placed him in an assisted living home.

With that, we did cancel this cruise a few weeks ago - with a very heavy heart. We are extremely jealous of you all.

All is not lost - we moved this cruise to a dummy date next year. The girls will not be without their Disney fix as we are spending a week at WDW in July and then a week at Vero Beach in October.

Hopefully we will have an opportunity to join you on a trip in the future. We hope you all will have a wonderful time.

:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: to you. My thoughts and best wishes are with you.

Happy Belated Birthday Karen!! :bday:

Just decided I'm going to buy a Disney gift card or Disney dollars with my Disney Visa before the trip! I have a weeks worth of dining at WDW to pay for and this way I can earn the rewards NOW for use on the trip!

Gotta remember to make this suggestion to Peg when she's back from NC.

I did get her booked for Cape May on the 19th. :thumbsup2

.
I have one gift card as of now, but should have more before our cruise as I just paid for FER's insurance for 6 months ... I'm getting tires for Dawn and Michael's truck - these are my "big" gifts to them for the entire year - instead of Christmas and Bdays... so I put those purchases on my DISNEY visa to get the points etc. Will be paid off before we cruise - so I should get the gift cards before then too? - Will call.
:cheer2:Welcome to the DISboards! And welcome to our happy group!:cheer2:

ROLLING COOLERS.........alright who here has personally brought on one of those cubed shaped soft sided, rolling coolers????? The DCL site says coolers have to be 22x14x9. Yeah right....seen any that have one dimenstion that is only 9 inches....don't think so! So tell me you have one of those cubed shaped ones, that you packed it full, and it fit through the scanner.

I saw a nice tote bag size, shoulder strap cooler bags that would be great for just a couple bottles of wine/booze/champagne. Wouldn't be too awful to have to schlep around till the staterooms were ready. I may shop around for one of those. I'd love to bring on my own bottle of Rosa Regale! :thumbsup2

.
I will make a note - Jill just asked about signing on here at the DIS boards - so hopefully after their trip to Mexico/Belize this Friday they will be popping on. I want them to see this cooler, although Paul said he could just pack his liquer in an empty suit case - that they will use on the way back for the stuff they buy while we sail. Since they are driving down - won't that work?

Also, I have a question... why is our thread called "LAST CALL FOR TORTOLA?" is this the last time DISNEY is going to be stopping? Just curious...:scared1:

Hi Peg....by the way...I'll be picking you up at the airport. Your DH has a client meeting this afternoon. So look for MY car!

OK funny you mentioned that - because for some reason when I got online here, I thought - I wonder why Jackie isn't picking me up since she's home... LOL remind me to tell you about Paul and his "futures"... he's doing a lot of trading and I did some "readings" about them, he was mocking me - until he spoke to his "broker" and the broker told him to get out of one by August (which is what I said) and he told the broker about me and then the broker said... hey ask your sister how my day is going to go... :goodvibes

I'll call you on your cell when the plane lands - I have luggage so it might take a bit...

Hi Peg - yes, this is the last cruise (at least for now) that DCL is having w/ a stop in Tortola. They did alternating St Croix/Tortola Eastern cruises for the summer.

E-mailed Paul the info about the coolers. And yes, just packing them in a carryone suitcase is good too (especially if it's stuff that doesn't need to be kept cool). I just figured for a road trip, he may want the cooler to use for the drive too.

For your last question, the technical answer is 'no, but...'. It is the last of a series of cruises this year that have the Tortola port of call (one each month April-September). But DCL will be stopping at Tortola again next year as a port of call for the Westbound TransAtlantic.

Just want to let y'all know that I got the dimensions for a 'cubed' shaped rolling cooler that someone used and it definately fits through the scanner (lying on it's back). That's 15x18x12 (which is the size I own...but won't be bringing on this trip.

Called Disney dining and made the rest of Peg's ADRs. She did vote to do AK on EMH day, she wanted to be there at 8AM. Problem is....couldn't get their Yak & Yeti lunch till 1PM, which makes for a long morning. Well, they can have a nice lunch before heading back to the resort for a nap and a swim.

They got Kona breakfast, Cape May and Boma dinners, lunch at Chefs de France (I picked that for them) and they'll have a counter service dinner at Tangerine Cafe that night; lunch at Yak & Yeti and they will have a sushi dinner at Kimono's at the Swan. So they've got some meals covered and can 'wing it' for the rest. My sisterly duty is done. :upsidedow

Good job D+
I think the shirts express a lovely sentiment.
I love the cap'd tee - myself... but the DIS green calls to me...
Well, I'm running down to the corner to the embroidery store to see if they'll do some pillowcases for me....for the great neices!

.
Grab 4 - you know there is another baby on the way!
I'll look for her too (someonesgranny...i think). The store had no Disney images, so I'll only use them if I decide to just have the girls names embroidered on. That might not be a bad idea as the four year olds tend to change 'favorites' frequently, I'm told!

.
Marley and Micah do change their minds, but not about color... purple is Micha's favorite color and Marley will tell you that all day long, my SISTER's favorite color is purple. They are SO cute...
Had a great day and a wonderful evening - lovely company, lovely food and lovely gifts...

Now I've got to get my head around the second part of my September trip - start making ADRs and plans!!! :goodvibes
Happy Belated - Karen!

Stacy - I pray you are doing better today and each day...

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

(inside joke)

I knew you'd love that! I have to hit the shower, DB should be home from doctor pretty soon to take me to airport... will see you there - in several hours!!! Thanks for picking me up... I'll be hungry so we can hit Applebee's if you'd like for a big chicken salad...

This just in......

Southwest Airlines has opened their booking window through January 8th

Let the holiday travel bookings begin!

Sorry, not sure who is in charge of the survey but I can't go back in to change it. I said that I was a ??? for the FE but I am a definite now. I went out and bought things yesterday. :cool1:

I think I need to take myself out of the FE for this cruise. With all of our puppy's meds and vet bills I don't think I'll be able do FE since we're trying to trim back our budget to be able to cover his expenses.

Jan, can you remove the FE from beside my name on page 1? Thanks!!!!

I am and no you can't.

You'll have to reenter the information and each organizer will deal with the dupes appropriately.

I will add you to page 1 post 1. If you want to share more information with us post it on the thread and I will move it.

:sail: WELCOME ABOARD :boat:

Congrats on getting that upgrade in May. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to who gets upgraded. We have cruised 7 times on Disney ships and never been upgraded. All that to say, don't count on it and you won't be disappointed. If you get it--great,
if you don't--you are happy because you booked the cabin you wanted. :)
