September 10, 2005 - Western Cruise!

im thinking of bringing 3 bags for the 2 of us and 1 carry on each, beacuse we got all our snorkeling stuff and too and some food and snacks for the 3 nights at saratoga...

1 suitcase and 1 carryon (for Tyler's snacks and activities to keep him busy enroute). I'm big on traveling light. I'd rather save more room in the suitcase for souvineers! :) I can always do laundry onboard if I need to, especially since one of the laundry rooms is on level 6 with me! BONUS!!

thats another reason I want to bring a 3rd case between the 2 of us, to bring stuff home :) and the flippers take up alote of room 2!

GREAT idea! Maybe I'll bring an empty one to bring stuff home too! ;) There was lots of stuff I couldn't afford to buy last time that I plan on getting this time.

Shhhhhh......can you hear it????? Is that The Magic blowing it's horn and calling us to her????

Wow! You're disciplined! Normally we are very light packers, but these Disney cruises get me, so many "themes" to dress for. :) But I'm trying to keep it small.

We worked on Pirate night yesterday, raiding our Halloween stash - found the pirate shirt I'd made for DH years ago (still fits) and a red petticoat for myself, which will work under one of my black skirts and we're pretty good to go. Joe's thinking of wearing long shorts with his pirate shirt - it looks good and piratey, but I'm not sure if that would be okay in the dining rooms, what do you all think?

Oh, and I visited Archie McPhees yesterday - never been in their store before. Absolutely bizarre! Sort of a costume shop/trinket shop/junk store - anyone need a handfull of resistors? I picked up a couple of eye patches for a buck fifty a piece. :teeth: If anyone needs an eyepatch, I could probably swing back by. Oh, and they had a "pirate wig" - long hair with braids sewn to a brown bandana, Johnny Depp style. I almost bought that.

Then we watched Pirates of the Carribean last night. :3dglasses

Yo ho, yo ho a pirates life for me! pirate:

I think on Pirate Night in the dining room, all dress codes are thrown overboard. They expect you to be dressed as pirates and I am sure that shorts, flip flops and whatever else is acceptable.

I think they hand out eye patches along with bandannas to everyone on Pirate Night. At least that's what I've read on other threads. We got our pirate t-shirts bought and are now sorting out all our clothes.

If there's stress associated with taking a vacation, I guess this is it. Trying to figure out what and how much to pack is a big deal for me. I definately like to pack way too much. My DW says I need help.

"Hi, I'm Woj, and I'm a chronic over-packer."

"Hi Woj!" :rotfl:

F-I-V-E more days people! :boat:

Ok, see, here's the thing....
I always WAS an overpacker for cruises but by now I have finally learned how NOT to be one. You have to keep in mind that, yes, you do change your clothes quite a few times a day on a cruise. However, most of the outfits you put on, you have on for very little time. Let's see if I can demonstrate what I mean. The first few cruises I went on I approached it this way, "Well, I need clothes for breakfast, a baithing suit to change into, something else to put on i the afternoon for lunch and any activities, something for dinner and something for after dinner." That's a minimum of 5 outfits a day! Now I think about it this way, " I will only be wearing what I wear to breakfast for about an hour or so. I can reuse that outfit for the afternoon and/or for after dinner." There is also a fine art of choosing clothing pieces that match multiple things so you can just mix them up.
So now I have narrowed it down to 2-3 bathing suits (rotate every other day), 3-4 casual outfits (shorts and tee-shirts) that can be mixed and matched, a couple of outfits for clubs at night (these can double as Palo brunch, tea or dinner clothes), 1 formal dress, pirate clothes and 1 semi formal dress. Done.

So appropriate! :teeth: My son was singing that the other day...apparently he remembers the wait staff singing it at dinner on pirate night last time! It really got me in the cruise mood! :cool1:

To any of you "VERY LUCKY" cruisers sailing on the beautiful Magic this next week, if you are a shopper and plan on being in the onboard shops - totally forgot to buy a DCL italian charm for my watch/bracelet last month and would be MOST grateful if one of you could pick one up for me...Of course, I would send you the cash before you mailed it, or if you do PAYPAL, i could pay you that way too - whatever works....but we don't sail again till 2007 and my charm bracelet is totally missing a Magic or DCL charm - i dont' even know what's available...if one of you could do this...please just PM me - thank you so much....Brenda

Hi everybody!!! One of my co-workers started a thread called Live from 9/3/05 Magic! She will be giving daily reports, so if anybody has any questions, I'm sure she'll be happy to answer. I guess they cruised through a storm yesterday morning, but the water wasn't rough...just hard rain, but it cleared up pretty early in the morning. :sunny:

Thanks Holly.

FLTink.... 5 outfits a day!!!!!! How do you have time to do anything but change clothes? <p.s. hate the word outfit lol> I get up in the morning and that is what I am wearing until dinner! If I go to the pool, change into the ONE bathing suit I own, and then back in to the other clothes. If I change after dinner to go in the clubs I never even thought about needing different clothes then the ones I was in before dinner LOL Where have I been huh? Of course being one that isn't into clothes and isn't real girly I guess that plays into it. The most girly I ever am is on the ship LOL So that will tell you something.

<heavy sigh> I guess I should go out shopping now and try to find some clearance stuff to but to wear after dinner at the club? What do you even wear? ACK! i'm just no good at this girl stuff.

Donnica: are you sure we're not sisters or cousins?! ;) That's exactly how I feel about clothes! In fact, on our last cruise, I only wore one outfit all day (except for dinner). So I'm right with ya on the clothes topic, girl! Unless there are single men onboard....then I would re-think my choice of clothes. :earseek:

I can't let our thread fall off of the first page!

My DD and I have been playing the "next week this time we will be..." game all weekend. Today it was "next week this time we will be in the middle of the ocean, getting ready for formal night". Yesterday it was "next week this time we will be in Key West". Tonight I said, "next week tomorrow we will be in Mexico" and she said "MEXICO? You didn't tell me we were going to MEXICO!"

This child cracks me up sometimes. :rotfl2:

Judy,

Don't rush our "next week trip" too fast! That's Wednesday! Tomorrow would be Grand Cayman...and those delicious Tortuga Rum Cakes!!!!

We're finally back from our family mountain trip. My back and neck hurt so bad from the pull out sofa bed. I really need that massage on sunday before key west. It's definitly going to be a busy week at work until we leave. We played the "this time next week" game since friday.

Yesterday well my DH smoked ribs all day I got my laptop out and made a packing list. I'm such a nerd. I figured out our clothes every night for dinner. And then whatever else we feel like packing. And I can't believe yall can do 1 checked and 1 carry-on. We have 3 checked and 3 carry-ons (one is my laptop). We also have to worry about our suitcases not being over 50lbs each b/c of Delta. Our suitcases weigh quite a bit without anything in them.

HAAA - my dS and I did that a month - or maybe two before our cruise, and definitely each day the week before....the really sad part is that we're still playing that game...only it's the depressing - three weeks ago we were.....
ENJOY your trip all....i'm already wishing it were close to 2007!!!! ;) but i don't really want to be that "age" - YIKESSSSSS!!!!

Is there a 50 pound limit on Delta? I may have to re-think my packing strategy. And let me clarify -- the one checked and one carry-on is EACH. Which makes 4 checked and 4 carryon. I think in reality it will be 5-6 checked and 4 carryon. We'll see.

As for the clothes packing thing . . I generally wear the same outfit all day except for dinner. And I'll reuse some dinner clothes.

I finished making door signs for our travelers last night. I actually made them whiteboards. I bought plain square whiteboards and decorated those with our cruise info, Disney stickers, and our DIS handles. They turned out pretty cute.

Ah . . . 3 more days of work, a bachelorette party Thursday night for my sister, and then Friday morning we're GONE. Yippee!!!!

OK --- so really important question. What TV shows are premiering while we are gone so that I can be sure to set the TIVO to record them? Anything besides Survivor? LOL.

And anyone have an answer on the toy sword question for pirate night? Can we bring one?

Kristin
