Sept. 7, 2012 - Magic NYC - Canada

I'm not sure if this question has been asked before (on this thread anyway), but I was wondering if it's best to acquire Canadian dollars here, or there, or not at all? I know a lot of times cruise ship ports will accept U.S. dollars (hopefully both halifax and st. john?) but maybe it saves money one way or the other?

Thanks for any insight!

Edit: I just read some other posts and it sounds like for our limited purposes we won't really need to change any money

In June, the 10 Photo Credit Package cost $149.99. It used to be where a 5 x 7 photo cost 1 credit, and the 8 x 10 cost 2 credits. Now all the photos no matter what size are worth 1 credit. I cannot remember what the pricing was on the other packages. I ended up getting the DVD with all the images because for us, it ended up being less expensive.

Thank you for the information, it is very helpful. pixiedust:

Thank you for the information about the cruise transfers vs. cab debate.

We would be interested as a group of going together to ride to the car rental place!

On another note, we live in Buffalo, NY which is about 20 minutes from Canada. We were there today when we found are fe gifts!

Hello - just booked this cruise today to celebrate 12 years of marriage with my husband Brian. We live in NJ and this will be our 10th DCL cruise, but first to Canada.

Sadly, all Palo reservations are taken, but we hope to be able to book on board.

We are going to rent a car in each port if possible. (need to get looking into that) I'm a geologist, so we are looking forward to seeing the countryside and hiking the rocky coast.

Looking forward to getting to know you a bit better in the next few weeks.

Hi, I think Nora (4) especially and probably also Greta (1) both love ALL princesses. Unlike their mom, they're both very girly girls! :)

I think someone long ago might have posted a question about sizes, but I wasn't sure? Maybe it was on the facebook thing? If so, right now they are @ 5/6 and @ 2T, but I can't guarantee they won't expand between now and then. Yes, they are big (and getting bigger every day) :)

Hope this helps. And, wow, so customized. I feel like I should ask if any of the adults in the fish extender group have any special requests! Or do people really prefer to be surprised (this is our first time participating)?

My daughter also likes any princess! And she is a 10/12 if still needed:bride:

SO

Can someone please clarify in a simple post the times that need to be updated in the first post? I would prefer it to be the ones that have set up the meets to clarify the times to avoid any confusion and further discussion of times!

Also, is the FE list OFFICIALLY closed? I want to update that as well.
If the original one is closed is anyone willing to start another list for the last minute cruisers or those that don't mind a cut off date much closer to the sail date?

The non champagne girs meet for a drink in Diversions is at 3:00pm. It is correct on page one.

Thanks Jill.

For the fe gifts, I like being surprised as an adult. My first time participating was on the 2011 DVC cruise and all of the adults in my family were like kids in a candy store when we came back to discover presents!

For the cruise magnets and shirt designs from Flickr..... We love them! We wondering if it were possible to have the Canadian map with the statue of liberty and lighthouse with a red border and the September 7-12 dates?

Thank you!

We are using Avis too- Tom's guide said you need to call for a pick up? Did anyone confirm this with Avis? I wonder if we need to do this, or if they will have a shuttle waiting at the Port? Maybe we can all get together and share a ride to their office??

Tammy
princess:

We were just planning on walking to the Avis location. It is somewhat uphill, but not too far. I think we could walk it faster than calling and waiting for a pickup.

We talked to avis this morning and they said it is about a mile from the cruise dock. They said that they start picking people up at 8:30.

On another note, what are people planning for Saint john's. We are debating between doing a shore excursion and renting another car! What do others think?

I booked Thrifty in Halifax but I'm not sure how far the hotel is from the cruise terminal (the car rental agency is in the Halifax Westin) We aren't sure what we are doing in Halifax yet (just booked the cruise yesterday) but I assume we will want a car.

I just booked Avis this morning for St.John. I have no idea how far that is from the terminal either. The rental car place is at 4 Water Street - I think it's close to the cruise dock. We are going to drive the Fundy Trail and stop for short hikes/sightseeing along the way. It's about an hour outside of town along the coast.

I would say the FE list isn't officially closed...as I normally like to accomodate everyone.

Some had expressed concern that they may not be able to accomodate folks after August 1st, so that was the proposed "cutoff". The form is stil alive and well though, and I will be updating the excel and pdf links from time to time.

The more the merrier I say!

Any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at eoppie AT gmail DOT com

Thanks for the reply. I'll leave the first post as is then for the FE info.

I was reading that the kids who stay in the Oceaneers club at lunchtime are served lunch. Anyone know what they are served?

Thank you so much for the update as I didn't see those responses. :)

JillJill and the ALL of our cruise, I am super sorry that I confused anyone by requesting an earlier start time of the DISMeet to accommodate my severely disabled mother and myself who just had 2 surgeries in July and my lung issues where I almost died in February. I didn't think it was such a horrible thing that I did by requesting a broader DISMeet from 2:30pm - 3:45pm (which several people agreed would make life easier on them too) to accommodate *all* of us but appartently that broke a rule of discussing something that I didn't realize was not allowed to be discussed... "avoid any confusion and further discussion of times!" So, I'm truly sorry 9/7 Canada cruise thread that my looking out for my disabled mother broke rules and confused you. Please accept my sincerest apologies as I'm truly sorry. :guilty:

I love surprises. But most importantly I love giving surprises that they are going to love. So since you say they love ALL princesses. Do they have favorite colors? :rainbow:

I don't mean to bother you, but now we can't come at 2:30pm when you said you would be there early? My mom is very disabled and getting from one place to the next takes a while due to her using a motorized scooter but with crippled hands. So, I was thrilled for her that you offered for those of us who wanted to come at 2:30pm could, but now that option is taken away? I've already bought my mom this beautiful fuchsia orchid petal lei so that she would be surprised and feel part of the group.
