Sept. 7, 2012 - Magic NYC - Canada

Good question. DH and I will be coming from just west of Philadelphia and it takes us about 2.5 hrs to get to Manhattan. I had originally planned on leaving at about 7:30 so that we could get there by 10:00am. I hadn't realized the garage opened at 9am.

Our boarding time isn't until 11:30....so I was trying to not get there too early (extra sleep and all that...haha). BUT, I don't want to miss out on easy parking right at the terminal either.

I would rather get there at 9:00am and know that I got a space to park. Then I can either wait it out in the terminal....play with the phone, bring a good book....or go take a cab to Times Square and walk around.....or go out and have breakfast somewhere.....many things to do in NYC. It's easy to kill time before you can board.

Here's a link to their website with all their information:

I'll repeat a recommendation I made earlier, before you joined. The drive from Baltimore to NY is about 3.5 hours. You'll spend more time in the airport and flying than just driving straight through. I know you're already driving in from Rocky Mount (one of our favorite stopping points when we used to drive to Orlando, btw), but consider just continuing on for the duration.

Better late than never. And there's only four more weeks to go.

You're only going to hit any kind of traffic as you get close to the tunnel, so no more than 30 minutes additional, just to play it safe.

Good! I like that....so I can leave at 7:00am to get there at 9:00am. Thanks!

For the native new Yorkers out there: we are debating catching a cab from LaGuardia vs. taking the Disney transfers. What do you think is the most economical options?

Just booked this as a last minute birthday present for my sister's birthday. Wondered if there was an FE list going that we could join.
Thanks,
Monica

We are packing up our FE gifts and hope that anyone who is on the FE list with a daughter could share their favorite princess please, thanks! :goodvibes

:drive: Is anyone else planning on renting a car in Halifax? We are leaning in that direction - there is too much that I want to see and the excursions don't cover them all. Just curious as to your plans - who are renting from and where you are planning on going.

My plan is to drive to Peggy's Cove, then to the Swiss Air memorial, Fairview Cemetery, the Citadel (drop the car off at this point) then the Maritime musuem. Hope we can get it all done :thumbsup2

OK, I think I've got a count for the FE....anyone agree?
25 cabins
20 men
7 boys
2 boy babies
31 women
4 girls
1 girl baby

Our plan is to see:
Martime museum
Freak lunchbox/ very good candy store
Public gardens- oldest Victorian garden in America
Titanic cemetery
Lighthouse row/highway 3
Peggy's cove
Citadel
Cow's ice cream/beaver tails

We know it is a lot but there is eight hours in Halifax and there is a day at sea before hand and we have a small list for st. John's

We're also renting a car from Avis. It was one of the few places I found open on a Sunday. I booked back in May, and got a rate of $37 CDN, including taxes. We plan to go most of the same places that you are, but I'm making DH take me out for a lobster lunch near Peggy's cove. We're going to follow most of the plan from Tom's Guides posted a few pages back. The only problem is DH is upset that he'll be missing the first day of football season, but he'll get over it. :lmao:

Can someone please clarify in a simple post the times that need to be updated in the first post? I would prefer it to be the ones that have set up the meets to clarify the times to avoid any confusion and further discussion of times!

Also, is the FE list OFFICIALLY closed? I want to update that as well.
If the original one is closed is anyone willing to start another list for the last minute cruisers or those that don't mind a cut off date much closer to the sail date?

How much are the transfers? A cab is going to run you around $40. If the transfer as substantially more, than I stick with a cab.

We are using Avis too- Tom's guide said you need to call for a pick up? Did anyone confirm this with Avis? I wonder if we need to do this, or if they will have a shuttle waiting at the Port? Maybe we can all get together and share a ride to their office??

Yes I do! Total of 51 adults, 14 children
:cheer2:

Looks great! So 70 gifts should cover it?! Maybe an extra 10 or so for late bookers? And I guess we could just take a quick peek the week before to make sure we have the correct meet up information? ...
Less than a month to go!!pixiedust:

Does anyone have experience/information about Shutters? When I booked the cruise I checked out the onboard gifts and amenities link at DCL and there was an option to prepurchase photo credits. This is no longer listed, and DCL replied to my email saying:

Pre-Purchase Photo Options:
The below photo packages are no longer available to pre-purchase;
however, any packages that have been previously sold will be honored on
the ship.

  • Photo Value Package: 10 Photo Credits
  • Photo Choice Package: 20 Photo Credits
  • Photo Premium Package: 30 Photo Credits

I did some searching through the threads, and found some discussion about some major price increases at Shutters and a change to the way the photo packages are offered, but I could not find any information on the DCL site to verify. Someone is gifting us for the cruise and I thought the prepurchase photo credit was a great gift, something that I couldn't afford and would greatly appreciate.

Appreciate any information about links to current pricing/packages.

Thanks!:)

In June, the 10 Photo Credit Package cost $149.99. It used to be where a 5 x 7 photo cost 1 credit, and the 8 x 10 cost 2 credits. Now all the photos no matter what size are worth 1 credit. I cannot remember what the pricing was on the other packages. I ended up getting the DVD with all the images because for us, it ended up being less expensive.

Hi, I think Nora (4) especially and probably also Greta (1) both love ALL princesses. Unlike their mom, they're both very girly girls! :)

I think someone long ago might have posted a question about sizes, but I wasn't sure? Maybe it was on the facebook thing? If so, right now they are @ 5/6 and @ 2T, but I can't guarantee they won't expand between now and then. Yes, they are big (and getting bigger every day) :)

Hope this helps. And, wow, so customized. I feel like I should ask if any of the adults in the fish extender group have any special requests! Or do people really prefer to be surprised (this is our first time participating)?
