The write-up on the DVC site surely brought back a lot of memories! I really hope we get through to MS on December 3. Annmarie

Sad to say meets threads due tend to die down a bit as other cruises are booked. Even though on our 10 day thread we have had over 2000 posts since getting back the end of last year the posts seem to get further and further apart.

The good news is that many of us booked the May cruise and are busy chatting away there. I think the same will happen once the actual booking happens for the 2006 Member Cruise.

It is sometimes hard to go the a new thread and meet new people. But then I remember all the people I got to meet on this thread and have made friends with. So new cruises just give us the opportunity to make more new friends. Of course we are really happy when we get to sail with the same people again. I've been blessed to sail with Karen (ohiominnie) and her family in December, on this cruise , we are both booked on the May cruise, and both families are planning on booking the 2006 Member Cruise. I think back to the 2003 Member Cruise and all the great people we got to meet (including Mary, Gail, John, Cheryl and Todd). We met many of them and others like Cindy and her family at Member Homecoming. So we look at these events as a reunion of friends in addition to a great event. Just yesterday Mike and Lisa sent us a picture and their info for the May cruise and have been added to the photo gallery.

Bottom line the DIS brought us together and while cruises may change we'll always have this little piece of the internet to call home and get together!

That was nicely said, Mary!

I, for one, also check these threads every morning so I can know what is going on. It is also a nice way to say hello to my DIS friends that I have had the pleasure of spending time with!!!

I have been getting this house cleaned out again - bet the garbage men just love me!!!
My youngest is coming home for a while so I need to make room but I told him that my Disney stuff will stay where it is - he needs to find a room that isn't filled with my stuff and he picked the basement when he was here last week - LOL. It's got a finished room too so he'll enjoy it and I don't display my Disney down there.

Ok, I've just finished matting the Ducky litho, here's the whole blow by blow.

We began with about $40 or so in raw materials. A do it yourself frame and one blue and one yellow mat from Hobby Lobby, and a sheet of Lexan from Menard's.

Step one, which I do not have pics for, is putting the frame together, taking measurements, then cutting the lexan and both matting sheets to fit the size of the frame.

So I begin with these materials, a metal yardstick, the small aluminum item is a pro mat cutter(makes 45 degree bevel cut), which I already had, not included in the price of materials, and the boxcutter I used to cut the lexan:

,Next up, The mats have been cut to fit the Ducky print, a rough mockup of how it's going to fit together, note the leftover piece of matting with my scribbled notes on how I was doing the cuts:

Next step, I have now fully cut the mats. Making the little boxes became a problem as the cutting blade went dull and started not making a clean cut thru the mat so I had to do some handiwork with one of my modeling files to make the edge better:

And, for now the finished product. I still need to pick up a sheet of black poster paper to cover the back and attach the certificate of authenticity:

Mark, that looks really great. :cool1:

Do we get to see the real project on Sunday? :teeth:

Sure, you can get to look at it all you like, might even have it up on the wall by then.

It looks great Mark! You did a nice job! Glad to see that you used a black frame. That's what we are using and of course the next morning after being at Michael's, I got the "OH NO, it's going to look horrible with that black frame" feeling. You have put my anxieties to rest - it looks good with the black frame! My estimated completion date isn't until Oct 13 - after seeing yours completed I'm getting more excited about getting mine back.

I actually tend to use either a black frame, the black chrome, or the brushed aluminum one, depending on what's going in the frame, but prefer the black, it offsets very well what I'm framing to the wall usually.

9 Weeks until call in for the 2006 Member Cruise!

Good morning everyone!!

Well, I have to admit that I'm really in withdrawal from our silly conversations. I find myself stopping at my computer several times a day, just to see if someone has posted here.

Mark - the litho looks fantastic. I can't wait until we get ours done.

Amy - then head on over to the May blabbermouth thread. Plenty to read there and lots of great new people to meet!

Doesn't mean you give up this thread - just picking up a new one. I've been juggling both :)

Oh, I know!! I've been meaning to get over there and say HI. I just miss our daily chats with you, me, Cindy, Diana, Lisa, Mary, Gail and everyone else.

Me too, Amy. Sometimes it's hard to start a new chapter of our lives. :sad1:

I check a couple times a day to see if anyone has posted. Maybe instead of just checking, we should just post. Who knows who else might be out there reading and checking and not posting. Before we know it, we're back to our daily chit chat.

And, it will certainly pass the time until the call in date.

:faint: Nine weeks, how on earth are we ever going to last that long :confused3 Gosh, remember when it was 9 weeks until our sail date? Oh so long ago. ;)

Okay, I'll start a little chit chat.

Last night, Cameron & I stood outside of the grocery store, selling popcorn for Cub Scouts. Cameron did the sales pitching and I did the money part of it. I have to say, it's such a disheartening experience in so many ways.

Here's what I observed. People either are overly friendly :teeth: , friendly :) or downright rude  . To a 10 year old no less.

Some people would not even make eye contact with Cameron as he would as "would you like to support the Cub Scouts". One man actually shook his head and rolled his eyes at Cameron as he asked. There Cameron standing there, looking like, what did I do? :confused3 And, continues on with what I asked him to do and calls out "have a good day". Every time he asked, whether the person acknowledged him or not, Cameron always said "have a good day".

One lady came out and asked if his feet were tired yet. Cameron said, no, my face is tired from smiling at people :teeth: . The lady was kind enough to buy some popcorn.

Another man came out carrying a case of beer. I couldn't resist -- I mentioned how well beer and popcorn went together. Yep, another sale. ;)

Several people stopped and said, we don't eat popcorn but here's a couple dollars donation. I think Cameron was even more floored by their generousity and willingness to donate just because. We had several people turn around after Cameron wished them a good day and give him a donation just because.

I'll be the first one to say that a bag of 5 microwave packages of popcorn for $5 is pricey. That's the least expensive item. From there, it goes to $8, $12, $15, $20, $25 and $40. That's a lot of money for popcorn. But, the non-verbal message is the one I had a problem with.

So, for the people who couldn't even take the time to say "no", as a mother, I wanted to chase them down and knock them over at their knees. Of course, I didn't and I just tried to explain to Cameron that not everyone is going to buy and some people were having a bad day. But, it makes me wonder what our world come to when people can't even give a simple, 1 word response to a question -- especially from a kid. :confused3

Oh Cindy - I know what you mean. I see kids selling stuff at the local Publix all the time. And, even if I'm not going to buy anything, I always acknowledge them kindly. It takes a LOT of effort (& backbone) to stand out there and sell to strangers. And, to see that people can't even be kind to kids is beyond me. They are KIDS for crying out loud!!! They are just beginning this adventure called LIFE, give them a break and at least be nice!!!

Cindy...
I'm sorry you had to go through this with Cameron. Here's another example where the fantasy of Disney doesn't spill over into the reality of life.

There isn't a year that goes by here that we don't anticipate the Boy Scout/Cub Scout popcorn sale. Our FAVORITE popcorn is BS/CS popcorn. I wish that you were selling at a grocery store by me. I'd be there in a heartbeat and I'd buy some from Cameron. :) Do the Cub Scouts ship? :rotfl2:

A fair amount of times that I see people selling things out there I truly do not have ANY cash. I use my debit card or my Disney VISA so much that I rarely have cash actually ON me. A lot of those times I probably would buy a little something (for the kids) but I feel like they think I'm lying when I tell them I don't have any money. :(

Best of luck to Cameron on his sales. :)

Hey Cindy - we are still trying to come over to WDW next Sunday the 9th, after Emily's birthday party the day before. I'm sure that I won't have to twist Chris' arm too much, and the girls will go in a heartbeat. What are your plans on Sunday again (if you don't mind us tagging along)??
