Doing my best to help with the thread count.
About TiVO.
We actually have 4 in the house.
One for each tv.
My Dh is impatient and hates to wait for commercials.
We start watching shows about 15 mins, after they start and FF through all the garbagge.
We only have one TiVO, but DH and I do the same thing. Wait about 20 after a show starts, and then FF thru all the commercials.

You know you're REALLY addicted to your TiVo when your riding in the car and you try to rewind the radio because you didn't quite hear everything the announcer said clearly. I did that one time!

Can someone on this board talk my dh into tivo and tell him how much we need it. I really want it but he doesn't think it is needed. Well, I NEED IT. :rotfl2:

TIVO saves you money. You aren't tempted to buy all of the products that are pushed at you every 5 minutes. You also can lose weight....without commercials you aren't tempted to get up all the time to get a snack. Fast-forwarding through the commercials only gives you about a minute or a minute and a 1/2....what self respecting snack can you grab in that short of a time?? You also save time. You can start an hour show 20 minutes late and still end at the same time the show does (that's the rule, 20 minutes of commercial per 1 hour) That time could be used in a better way, helping the children with homework, reading a bedtime story to the youngest, cleaning the kitchen, oh...I dunno...something else that might take 20 minutes or so ;) ;)

How am I doing?

Then I'll sit up one night and catch 3 episodes of Monk back to back. :teeth:

I had to do a double take....I thought you said 3 episodes of MORK....

as in Mork and Mindy!!! :rotfl2:

We don't have TIVO, but we do have digital cable with a DVR. What a blessing!!!

We have one of each. They each have their benefits. Tivo sometimes has trouble if your cable box turns off for some reason....Tivo tapes blackness. The DVR from the cable company will turn itself back on for those shows.

Tivo, on the other hand, has a MUCH MUCH better search feature!

Yeah, wouldn't THAT be great. I believe XMradio has a unit that can "tivo" up to 30 minutes.

Anyone ever tried to Tivo their spouse...."uh, what was that you said?" rewind, rewind.... :)

Well geee, we're getting busy in the last 2 weeks till the cruise, hm?

I'm the oddball. I haven't watched a reality show since the original Survivor one and even that I lost interest after only a handful of episodes. They just do nothing for me, and some I can't even stand the commercials they run for them. Mary gets a little annoyed sometimes at how easily I can ignore the tv when she has one of them on.

Now... about these DVR's, who has one but doesn't have a Tivo, what is it? I want to get one, but all I really want is one that works just like a vcr, no subscription service, no phone lines and grids, just basic vcr type controls is all I really want. I wear out tapes regularly just taping prgrams.

We have just a DVR, Mark. We only have one box, on our main TV. You just pay a monthly amount on your cable bill and it is really, really easy to use. Play, pause, rewind, fast forward. Very, very basic. It doesn't have the same fancy search functions that TIVO has, but it does the trick especially if you want to record the same shows over & over.

LOL... hmmm maybe I should check out what's playing on TV Land... :rotfl2:

Nope, Monk. I have to admit to a certain fondness for the "defective detective". I'm afraid I see a little of myself in Monk. I've got a little "germ issue" that comes out now and then.

Ummm... 2 questions Linda:

1. We are friends, aren't we????

and...

2. Can I have the Roy Suite??? :teeth:

Like the horn and slide ideas too!!!

Since you are the first who has asked, of course it's yours!!!

:rotfl2:

Ok, to answer my own question....
I'd never apply to be on a reality TV show. I watch a good number of them....Survivor, American Idol, Super Nanny, Wife Swap, and used to watch the Bachelor(ette)

I think if I HAD to be on one it'd be Super Nanny, although my kids wouldn't even qualify for the show....they CRINGE at how those kids act and can't believe what those kids get away with....no way they'd THINK of acting that way even for the audition tape. :)

Maybe I'll sign up for the next Bachleorette.... (insert evil grin smiley here!!) :rotfl2:

Mark, we have one through our cable company. It works absolutely great. Has a list of everything you have recorded so it's easy to find. Also, on VCR tapes you know how you have to fast forward and go back to find the start of the 3rd show you recorded on that tape? Not so with the cable DVR. It has a list and you just scroll to find the program you want and hit play. SOOO easy. Also you can set it to record an entire series, like all of say, ER, and it will automatically record them all. That way if you're running errands and don't get home in time, your shows will still get recorded.

We used to have about 10 VCR tapes laying around, each with 3-6 shows on them. Took forever to find what we were looking for. The DVR will record about 50 or so hours before you have to start deleting. We would have a difficult time going back to VCR.

You can start an hour show 20 minutes late and still end at the same time the show does (that's the rule, 20 minutes of commercial per 1 hour) That time could be used in a better way, helping the children with homework, reading a bedtime story to the youngest, cleaning the kitchen, oh...I dunno...something else that might take 20 minutes or so

I thought that was a great selling point (the something else) but my dh doesn't think that would happen. I really thought that would get him to agree to it. Thanks all for your great reasons to get TIVO. Maybe when we get home from the cruise I will just have to order it. :flower: ;)

What would I do with a million dollars?
First I'd pay off debt (house, DVC, cars, etc)
Then I'd add a room above my garage that would be a scrapbooking/cross stitching/craft room. Maybe I could save a corner of it and it could be Mike's writing room too. :)
That should take care of that $250,000 that I HAVE to spend on myself.

Next I'd make sure my parents and Mike's mom are taken care of and get whatever they need.

I'd like to help my brother build the house he wants on the piece of land he bought 10 years ago. Although he's very indecisive, so it may never get built b/c he can't decide if he wants one or two stories. Vinyl or aluminum siding. Corian or Laminate countertops. Pergo or wood floors. etc etc... I'd have to give him a time limit.....plan your house and start on it within 1 year, or the money isn't yours.

I'm afraid to say my sister has been bailed out financially many many times and giving any money to her would not do her a lick of good. Unfortunately, her priorities are a bit skewed.

My other sister has more money than she knows what to do with (anyone who can spend several thousand dollars on a piece of 10 ft tall yard art made out of old tools doesn't need my help.)

Mike's brother...he's finally doing well after many years of wavering. I'm afraid too much money right now would set him back.....make him revert to his old ways of buying things for himself instead of paying bills.

My kids surely don't need anything....and since I can't put any money away in savings, guess they are out of luck too. Maybe a quick trip to Toys R Us for a toy.

Guess that leaves the rest to cruise with! :) I did ask the rebook lady once how much it would cost to cruise on the Magic from January 1-December 31st in a cat 6. She laughed and said "a lot." :) Maybe I'd find out for sure how much it cost!! :)

Isn't that the truth. I watch Super Nanny and then look at my kids and think, hey, I'm not doing such a bad job, am I. If I had to contend with kids like on Super Nanny, I'd kill them in an instant (yep, that's me the daycare provider saying that. :rotfl2: ).

Even my d/c kids aren't that bad. If I ever had one treat me the way some of the Super Nanny kids treat their parents, they would be sitting on the front step that night, bags packed, waiting for their parents to arrive to take them on their final ride away from my house. Bye-bye!

I just don't understand why some parents allow that. :confused3

After getting caught up at noon, I couldn't wait to get home and post about who I thought might be the surprise celebrity on DCL that was at DL grand opening. But I wasn't quick enough. MaryJ guessed Art Linkletter (who was featured in the Vacation Magic this month) and Mary (WDWLVR) guessed Fess Parker. I was going to guess them both. I would LOVE to see Fess Parker. I was in love with Davey Crockett and Daniel Boone! To me, he's almost as much a Disney icon as Mickey himself.

On another note, I stopped by Hallmark to buy a card on my way home and found some great Disney Christmas ornaments. They have a Tinker Bell in a copper lantern and when you push the button, a light comes on and she spins. SOOO CUTE! Will have to get that one for sure. Also saw one with Mickey and Minnie watching WDW Wonderful World of Color on TV and the TV had fireworks actually going off!! That one will have to be in my stocking also.

In a word....laziness. Isn't it easier to say yes to whatever your kid wants than to say no, have to explain yourself, or follow through with it?

Isn't it easier to "ignore" some behavior than have to follow through with time outs or whatever your disciplinary choice is?

Won't it squelch their little creative minds if we tell them they aren't allowed to do something? (color on the walls, dig holes in the yard, build dangerous ramps for their scooter or bike)

Isn't requiring them to be respectful, do chores, and treat each other with kindness sort of "old fashioned?"

I am very careful now with what I threaten....because I may just have to follow through!!!

Yes, I watch Super Nanny and am thankful for the kids I have. :) They are not perfect angels, but they are really good kids. Now, if I can just keep my dd from complaining to Mike's sister about how she scheduled her stupid wedding on the only home OSU game in the entire month of October. She has threatened to buy Heather an OSU hat for her wedding --I'm afraid she gets her sarcastic attitude from me. :(

Oh my, we LOVE XM radio here. We originally got it for the house (the sunroom) and we'd schlep it into the car with the car adapter and the cumbersome antenna.....

but then we got a Toyota with XM....and actually we picked our Toyota model BASED on if it had XM or not!! I LOVE my XM radio!

Oh, those kids on Super Nanny are just out of control. Mine still have tantrums and bad days, but overall, they say please, thank you (well, Emily does, Madison is still learning). Heck, some of the ladies at church were so impressed with Emily when she was really young, because one of her first words was Please.

No birthdays or anniversarys for us for this trip, but we're willing to celebrate with anyone who wants to!

Hey Mary I don't care how we handle the cart - we all can go or Mark and John can go and that will give us a couple of extra minutes to eat...er I mean get all dolled up! :cutie:

I'll answer two of the questions here.

First we'll be celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. It will be October 27th of this year. We were going to book the October 22nd 7 day cruise so we would be on it for our anniversary but decided not to when we heard about this cruise and the chance to cruise with all our DVC friends. Now we may be celebrating it but I didn't tell DCL about it. We're not into making a fuss. :) Plus with it not being our actual anniversary I felt a little wierd about it.

Gail - Mark says your plan of he and John going for the car is a good one. They can decide who wants to drive and who wants to navigate. We'll just have fun!
