KCatoir - Sorry - I seem to have an insatiable (or instinctive) appetite for "organizing" things. MUST perfect the process of all things - Actually, it is really just a character flaw. I am bascially lazy!!! So I try to "work smart" since "working hard" is for the young and inexperienced.

Okay, since you were elected the alternate for organizing the "Bon Voyage" party, you'll have to tell us all where to meet. Oh - you want to see the tally sheet? Well, the NAP Police took it when they hauled Suzanne off to wherever ...

Well ... the days are getting longer (6 minutes a day now) and the nights are getting shorter so I need to get to bed ...

To the party bar hopping crowd: I will probably be in my room that late at night, (married with children) so I can be everyone's designated driver. Just call my stateroom and I can lead you back to your door safe and sound. I can even press the elevator buttons for you as you lay horizontal on the elevator floor. The other family we are traveling with is a single mother though. She may be out there partying the night away with all of you.

You know, I suspect we may have to take you up on this offer. I think we will have to copile a list of our staterooms before the party begins....our memories may be a bit foggy after the first stop on our tour......

SmilingMouse - KCatoir offer to be the "designated driver" on the elevators during a Pub Tour is, of course, extremely generous. I think there is a compiled list of cabin numbers, we ought to make her? guess at who belongs in what cabin... ...

CujoBugs - Have you seen "RoscoeDogs" comment on your luggage question? I was not aware that there were some airlines that had check-in at the port. That is definitely the way to go for me ... I will be looking for that!!!

Power Alaska: Yes, I did see their comment about check in at the port. I am also curious though if you are even able to use it if you haven't purchased air through disney. I asked that question again on that thread, I haven't seen a response yet. I think I will call disney and see what airlines are there. I'll let you know.

He is Irish...one of those Fighting Irish from Notre Dame. But there's a LOT of Irish in his family too. He loves his Guinii! (that's plural for the Guinness)

I called Disney today to discuss which airlines are actually at the port to check my luggage on return. There are three airlines at the port to take your luggage and check you in for your flight. I have notes upstairs and can't find which ones the airlines were. I do remember American Airlines were at the port. You can check your luggage with the airlines at the port even if you didn't use disney air. I will do some searching for my notes to let you know the other two airlines. Unfortunately, we will be flying Southwest since they are the only direct flight from Orlando to Kansas City. And Southwest is not at the port. Made me sad.

Cujo - Thanks. I read the post and noticed that no one seemed to answer the question. The thought does occur to me -

WHAT ARE YOU DOING WORRYING ABOUT GETTING YOUR LUGGAGE HOME?!!! After all, you haven't even gotten there yet. How about you plan to just throw your luggage overboard?Since the clothes won't fit after the cruise anyways. BUT then you will need someplace to put all that tequila - right?

Thanks for the airline info. We will be flying Delta MCO>DFW>ELP - BUT truly I don't usually think about going home til the night before ... Mostly cuz that's when I go into shock seeing how much $$$ my DW spent and didn't tell me about!!! She usually vacates the premises when the bill shows up.

Then comes back and smiles sweetly at me I have yet to win!!!

As I said, being Irish is a good thing. When we lived on LA (lower Alabama), I wore a Notre Dame shirt the day of the Alabama-Auburn Thanksgiving football game.

Was almost tarred & feathered - DARN YANKEES!!!

Only worrying about luggage because trying to decide whether disney transfer back to Orlando airport is worth the money. We originally planned this one way transfer because we figured we would be quite tired and wouldn't want to mess with the luggage. We misunderstood and thought luggage would be sent from port to plane without us messing with it. So we decided to do disney transfers for 7 people instead of renting a car. Now I'm questioning this decision, and may call disney to get one way removed. We are paying $210 for one way transfer. I could probably get limo for that.

And yes, I am already worrying about getting luggage back home. I am an obsessive trip planner and don't want any surprises. I like your idea of throwing it overboard since clothes won't fit anymore. Too funny.

You're right, a limo or town car may be cheaper....try not to stress too much! I'm sure everything will be fine, and that you will have a great time!

I am trying to decide if we should put our deposit down on this cruise or not. I got what I think is a really good quote, but I don't know about having my daughter miss 3 days of school. (They will be out of school for 2 of those days that week, that's why I chose that particular week.) She will be starting kindergarten the first week of September. Does anyone think that's too soon to start missing school? I know it's not really a big deal. Ahhh... I don't know what to do. Due to my husband's business, we can only travel in fall/winter so we don't have a lot choices. The other times when she has consecutive days off of school are Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break, but those are way, way too expensive for us. Three days missing school isn't that bad, is it?

She's in kindergarten--GO! What do think she will remember years from now--the three days in kindergarten or the fantastic time spent with her family on the Disney cruise? As an empty nester mom I can say with authority that time spent with your children over the next years will go by like the blink of an eye! Also, the older that she gets and the further into her schooling it will be harder and harder to find the time to do special things like this. We made a tradition of visiting WDW about every other year as our kids were growing up. We would leave as soon as Christmas break started and head to WDW. Those are some of the fondest memories made for all of us!

Cujo - Now I understand - Seven Dwarfs & your the QuarterMaster!!! Although I have not yet reserved the transportation from MCO to WDL to DCL to MCO , I pretty much have it wired for my wife and I. I think I agree with SmilingMouse - maybe you should be looking into a LIMO for that many folks.

If it makes you feel better, you are not the only obssesive planner, I am already planning the logistics of our trip to Belize in December. Have picked out tentative dates for vacation venues in 2006 too!!! Drives my wife crazy. I make the project managers and anyone who works on any of my workgroups give me leave forecasts a year in advance. Then I check them for ninety days out plans once a month!!! As a result, I have never once cancelled anyone's plans. Perhaps some "negotiations" but never a cancellation. Family & Folks First!!!

B&J Mom - I totally agree with C-WeeCare. Come on the cruise!!! Time with the family, and with the kids at the "DCL Kid's Club", and the "MAGIC" of seeing Mickey & Minnie and Gang will be of FAR MORE value to their future in the long run. And you will never regret it... Family First!!!

I am making brother take his 14 year old son out of school two-three weeks early so that he can make a road trip with me through Alaska, Yukon, British Columbia and on down through MT, WY, UT, CO, AZ, NM & TX and back to New England. Just for the exposure. The way we figure it, he will get more value from that in terms of geography, environment, sciences, history, etc etc ... He has never been out of New England, on a plane, fly-fishing, rafting etc etc... Time to expose him to what LIFE has to offer.. Without the oversight of his parents ... He will think he is having an adventure, when, in fact, he will be in an extended "summer school" with a private tutor.



For all my opinion is worth ... COME ON THE CRUISE!!! For the Family!!!

I'm with PowerAlaska....sometimes, kids can learn more from real-life experience than from teachers and textbooks. In the grand scheme of things, those days prob. won't mean much!

Last year, our DD was in kindergarten and she lost a week of school with absolutely no problems. My say is C'MON JOIN THE CREW....WE'VE BEEN WAITING JUST FOR YOU!

Last fall, we flew US Airways and checked our luggage right there. It was very convenient not to see it again until we reached our final destination.

Sounds like most of you are of the same opinion here! I have until Tuesday by 5 p.m. eastern time to put down the deposit and hold our cruise. I agree with everyone that going on a family vacation together is much more important than 3 days (half days, actually!) of kindergarten. I am just nervous, this is my first child starting kindergarten! We just went on the Wonder in January and had a great time. If we don't go in September, I don't know when we will get the chance again. We will probably put the deposit down, if something changes, we can still get our money back as long as we cancel before the final payment is due, right?

I just put in a reservation for our Captain marvins 1/2 day trip.

B&J's mom: Let me tell you from experience, YES ITS TOTALLY WORTH IT!
We took our 2dd's out of school in 2003 2nd and 4th grade, for a Land and sea and it was SOO great. The only problem we had was due to a HORRIBLE teacher my DD had that year, lets just say the man should not be teaching dogs much less children
You won't have this issue but what I did then and plan to do this year (will be trickier as oldest DD is starting middle school this Sept) I talk to all teachers at the beginning of school, I choose this cruise because its at the beginning of the year before they get too involved, (first 2 months is usually review anyway). Any way I let everyone know what happening and request all assignments for that time period 1-2 weeks prior to our leaving, DD's complete all assignments before we even leave, that way I'm not having to be homework police on our vacation. It worked well last time and I am hoping for the same this time.
I will say I fear this is the last "off season" trip we will be able to take, I don't want to risk hindering their school work. But also don't want to give up or precious family time, I notice late august before school starts here the prices take a dive: add on any rebook discount, hope-a Hope-a..... .
