Sept. 23, 2012 Pacific Coast - Wonder Cruise

Disneyland tickets are about to go up on Sunday. Mad scramble here to work out if we want a four day pass for DCL or one of the So Cal City Passes or the like. Argh I was hoping for a quiet night, now I'm working the numbers again.

I was going to write you on Saturday to see if you had gotten your tickets yet, but then realized with the time difference it would be too late. I hope you were able to get what you need before the price went up.

We had a serious discussion on Saturday about our future as passholders. DS's pass expires this November but our other three aren't until next Feb. We decided to buy the gift voucher and hold it for DS (since it is good until the end of the year). Then we will downgrade DD's pass and with only making monthly payments on 3, it will be about what we are paying now. But this may be the last year we buy them. I guess I could still afford them if I gave up all my Disney cruises....but that is not a decision I want to have to make :rotfl:

Hello all,

We booked on the cruise. Will there be a fish extender exchange. And is their a facebook link to the cruise meet and greet etc.

It will be me, my husband, DD 7, and DS 5. We are from Canada!!!

We will be adding a Disneyland stay post cruise as well.

Would love information on what the group has planned for FE and meet and greets.

Renata

Congrats on booking the cruise!! That will be a great time for Disneyland also. All the Halloween decorations should be up but it won't be as crowded yet. :thumbsup2

Hi everyone.
We have just changed our cruise booking from the 30th to the 23rd Sep so I have changed groups accordingly!
This is our first cruise ever and we are very excited that it is a Disney one!
We are a family of six from Australia, Mum (me) Dad, dd13.5, ds11, ds almost 7 and dd3.
I'm looking forward to getting some great info from all of you that have cruised before :thumbsup2

Welcome to the group!!!! Oh wow...I wish that my kids were going on this cruise with us (the ages would be close to your kids). Plus I would love for them to meet people from so many other countries. When we did the MR in April, it was Spring Break time and of all the families that we met, the vast majority was from So. California.

Gail - I'm keeping you in my thoughts today!!! I hope that everything goes well with the surgery and you are pain free very soon!!

Well for me, I'm just counting the days this week. I'm heading over to Vegas on Wednesday to enjoy a long weekend with my Mom and Sister (they are driving out today). My sister had a time share she wasn't using this year so she moved it over to a location in Vegas (woo hoo - free room...well, for me anyway, LOL). We have tickets to see Elton John on Thursday night. He is one of my favorites and I managed to get front row seats. I'm so excited that I don't think I will be able to make it through the next three days :cool1::cool1:

I am home! I have a very sore hip and throat but my neck is tolerable. Not my idea of a good time, they were an hour late getting started but it is over and I will say - there has been no pain in my shoulderblade or tingling in my arm since.

OK, I am headed back to the recliner, just wanted to check in and thank you all for your concern, pixie dust and prayers. :grouphug:

I'm so glad to hear that you are doing well. Hopefully the sore hip and throat will clear up soon as well. Take it easy and rest!!! :thumbsup2

Ah that is good to hear! :goodvibes You just rest as much as you can, it's going to take about three days for the anesthetic to work its way out of your system. Don't go back to work until you feel ready - you know your body best.

Jetskigirl - full Elton John concert report needs to be filed on Monday for the rest of the DisBoard crew please!!

Four months today we are boarding people!!!! :dance3::dance3::dance3:

Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes! I'm looking forward to getting to know you all a bit better over the next few months!!

glindamood, great to hear you are doing ok after your op.

jetskigirl, I would love to see Elton John live, and front row seats even!!
Are you sailing child free in September? Lucky you!!!

WOO HOO - we caught up to you (date wise) so now I can officially say that it is 4 months from today :banana:

LOL - I'll be sure to give you an Elton update. I heard he threw a bit of a tantrum at his show a couple of weeks ago so he had better be over that by tomorrow night :rotfl: I want him in prime form.

I'm so excited to see him again. I have loved Elton since I was a teen (sitting on the floor of my room rewinding Crocodile Rock on my cassette player over and over so that I could learn the lyrics, LOL). I have no idea how I was able to get the front row seats. They just showed up on TicketMaster. Maybe they were VIP seats that the hotel was holding and they decided to release them back to TicketMaster or something??? I must have just happened to be checking at the right time :thumbsup2

Yes, DH and I decided it was time to take a vacation just the two of us (our first one longer that a few days since our honeymoon 17 years ago, LOL). Also when we heard that the Wonder was going to relocate to Miami, we knew it might be our last chance to sail out of Los Angeles. The port is about 15 minutes from our house so that factored into the decision to do this one (as well as the really low rates for this cruise).

I'm really looking forward to hanging out at the adult pool and seeing the adult shows without having to check the phone every 5 minutes to see if the kids club is paging me :rotfl2:

We booked our flights last night...Could not get a Canadian Carrier :-(. So we are flying with United...a little nervous cause flown with them once before and not that great of an experience, but that was in 98...hope that they have improved!?!

But, booking the flights has made this official for us.

Gail, I'm sorry you needed surgery but hope you're feeling great soon. I'll send a PM with email addy next week.

I hope you have a great Memorial Day!:goodvibes

I meant to respond to this one before and I think I missed it. I sure hope that everyone is feeling better now!!!

A Happy Mother's Day to you (and all the Moms in the group) also!!

Thanks, jetskigrl, I'll send you a PM with my email address soon; congrats on seeing Elton John! So cool!:thumbsup2

Thank you for the link about the Maritime Museum. :)

:welcome:Renata and family

:welcome: AussieMumma and family,

We're so excited for September. :)
Renata, we live near LA but recently booked tickets for another trip and that makes it so more real. :cheer2:

Our DD will be in the Vibe; AussieMumma, will your 13.5 DD go to the Vibe? Do you know, yet? Ours will be 16.

Oh my I hope Jetskigirl is enjoying LV. I've just seen on our news feed that Elton John has been hospitalised in LA and cancelled his LV leg of the tour. :sad1:

Gail when are you thinking of doing cut-off for FE. We fly out 8 September. What about 31 August or thereabouts? That's 23 days from sail date. (Did I send you an email addy? I can't recall. Do you need one?)

Yay, got my biopsy results back - negative. Happy camper. :cool1: We are doing our first sleep-over tonight so that DH can paint the kitchen. Of course this means I'm working like a madthing trying to get the pantry etc empty and clean. Personally I'd take painting over boxing and cleaning any day. Better get a wriggle on and get back to it.

Oh, No!! jetskigrl, I'm so sorry.

Thanks for sharing this; I hope Elton John pulls through okay.

I was trying to get caught up and am sorry I missed that you've had a biopsy. So glad it's good news. :thumbsup2

Yeah the poor guy doesn't sound good at all. He's in the best place for treatment.

Ah it was just a mole biopsy for melanoma on my face. Skin cancer kills more people in NZ per year than any other cancer, so we keep a close eye on anything on the skin. Just waiting to get in front of another specialist again (two year saga), that will be an abdominal laparoscopy with a six week stand-down from sport but the 'bit' in question needs to come out and it's taken 2.5 years of the specialist being hesitant for my GP to final hit the roof. Fingers crossed it comes out after the USA trip though.

But, booking the flights has made this official for us.

We flew United home from our PC trip last year without issue (other than they changed the kind of plane and I lost my aisle seat) but no lost luggage or delays.

Well, hip is better but I honestly can't see any difference in my throat - and it has a tendency to get worse as the day goes on so I will be calling the doc's office again for any further suggestions. I know what it is from, just wish someone would say it may take a week or so - then I would quite whining. I will say that it stops my eating though which isn't a bad thing - is it??? Since I looked for pain relief on a plate for close to 2 months, I am sure it is OK.

:welcome: to anyone that I missed, sort of slow on the uptake this week. I did manage to pay off my cruise yesterday, verified it today and will book brunch and excursions this evening. I still think that we will do Alcatraz on our own but Muir Woods will be with DCL - can't decide on the WD museum though.

Have an awesome weekend everyone - and a long one for those of us in the states!

Excursions and Palo are taken care of. I will say, in the 13 other times I have done that, which has had a different process each time, last night was the smoothest/easiest time, except for the time we did the B2B. That was a winner. I set the alarm to go off at 11:50, didn't even get on the internet until 12:02 to be sure that I didn't have any issues and sailed right through the process - I was back on the couch (still not sleeping in the bed but maybe tonight). The only possible 'snag' is the fact that the wine tasting tour in SD showed up as just a number, no description and no price. The timing was correct so I call later today and see if I can get any sort of response as to why it was so odd. we really want to do that and I don't want to loose out.

If anyone else is curious of times for anything, ask away, I will be happy to let you know what I see. It is so difficult to plan on excursions when we don't know what time things are offered.

Well - 17 weeks from today we will be on a plane headed to LAX. Can't wait.

:banana:My brother rang last night. He's getting married!!! For the first time in nearly 40 years he actually sounded like he was smiling when he spoke on the phone. I'm very happy that my baby brother finally found someone who makes him happy and that he can have kids with. He spent years with women who didn't want kids and pretending it wasn't a huge deal to him despite him wanting to be a dad so badly.

They rang to get my blessing (our Mother is away in Europe and is problematic at the best of times) and say they were tentatively thinking of September this year. I had to tell him that we were in the USA all September to which he said 'oh yeah, I knew you were going away but couldn't recall when'. I did suggest that they could come to the US and get married on the Disney Wonder but Mike wasn't sure his inlaws would cope with that.

So it looks like we are off to Sydney for a wedding at some stage and then, if we can swing it, we will take the kids to China for the ceremony in her home town too.

Yes we are all so very happy for them. My brother has tentatively suggested early August this year for the wedding. :woohoo: He wants to get married on Sydney Harbour at this stage, I'm unsure what that means but if it's a boat trip it's possibly the smartest way to keep my boys occupied during the service. It's very exciting abet a bit a of an unplanned budget blowout.

Hello all,

And I hope you are all doing well. I read that there was a surgery - hope the recovery is smooth. Some talk of Elton John - hope its everything and more for the fans. And a exciting weddding. Seems like there is alot of things happening amongst our fellow cruisers.

On Cruise update!!! I spoke with DCL yesterday and they told me that the ship is undersold...meaning that they have tons of empty space still available. I am kind of liking the sound of a not sold out ship...means more room for us to roam the ship and soak our feet in the pool...keeping my fingers crossed that we are not crammed to capacity!!! LOL
