Sept. 23, 2012 Pacific Coast - Wonder Cruise

Hey All

Gail I sent you a PM yesterday (my yesterday), let me know if you didn't get it.

Jetskigirl I'll bet you are counting down to your summer break! No more having to rush people to get lunches ready, get dressed and get in the car/or to the bus to go to school. Not long now, just a big exam hump before the end.

Not a brilliant week here. Alex had a temp of 103/104 for 30 hours earlier this week and was not a well bunny. Now he's right as rain. However it's three nights of lack of sleep as Oliver had nightmares the night prior and DH going out to farewell his workmate and I'm shattered. I've got to go out tonight to a meeting too and all I want to do is prostrate myself on the couch and doze. I've started running again and it's helping my back but my weight has gone up so much since the start of the year I'm starting to panic.

OMG...yes, it is amazing how much of a difference it makes when we aren't dealing with the school routine. :thumbsup2

I'm sorry to hear about Alex being sick. I'm glad that he is feeling better now. Isn't is amazing that they bounce back so quickly and then we still need extra time to recover after they were sick :rotfl:

Hi, it's been unusually busy around here and we've had the flu.
I'm still sick but wanted to check in :goodvibes

Happy Mother's Day :flower1: everyone

Question for those of you who booked the VGT rate... what did you pay per person? I am just curious to compare it to current rates, as we are considering this cruise. Kinda sad I missed the VGT rates when they were offered!

I'll PM you.

The rates on this cruise have not gone up since day 1 pricing. In fact, they have gone down a but. :thumbsup2 If I recall correctly, the VGT was the same as what a 10a is showing now.

I originally had an 11b booked for about $1000 a person and was able to change my reservation to the price that is still showing, $791 a person, when the prices dropped. But then when I saw the VGT, I changed to that one.

I wouldn't be surprised if they bring the VGT rates back after the paid in full date. It still doesn't look like that cruise is selling well and they have the discounts for Canadian residents right now also.

Happy Friday - and boy, what a day. Had an appointment with the surgeon - and I need a cervical diskectomy and fusion which is currently schedule for May 21st. He 'sold' it when he had me put my arm up and flex (like Popeye) and my right arm was good and strong - but my left darn near hit me in the head when he pushed. Scared me actually - I do not want any further nerve damage so away we go. It is an hour procedure and I should be sent home on Tuesday. I asked about recovery and he said 4 - 6 weeks then wanted to know what I did for a living and when he found out 'sit in front of a computer all day' she said I could go back on Wednesday if I felt up to it! Go figure.

Well, other than that, it has been a very uneventful week here. I have two PM's for FE's so that is 3 participating. I will compile a list and return PM's over the weekend so we all know where we stand/sit and I will try and keep that up.

Take care and enjoy your weekend - low 70's here and gorgeous!

I meant to respond to this one before and I think I missed it. I sure hope that everyone is feeling better now!!!

A Happy Mother's Day to you (and all the Moms in the group) also!!

Oh wow, that is really fast. And I'm really surprised that they would let you return to work so soon. I sit in front of a computer all day and it bothers my back some days (and I am not having problems with my back). I hope you can get a little more rest than that!!

Happy Mothers Day to all the mums. I guess you guys are on Sunday now, it's Monday morning here. Lovely day with the kids and got a new hairdryer thankfully (can't take it to the States as we use different voltage tho' :rolleyes2). Kids really understood Mothers Day this year, which was lovely.

Gail you certainly sound like you need surgery, I can see in my mind what happened when you did the bicep flex. Like Jetskigirl I can't quite get over the doctors optimism that you'll be back at work so soon. I do hope it's mended well enough in time for the cruise.

Very very wet here, it's like a monsoon constantly. The temperature is dropping now we are entering winter and one son is convinced he can still wear tank tops and shorts!

Hello all:

We are considering this cruise, actually we are booked!!! I have two little water babies, will it be warm enough to use the outdoor pools on the ship while out on the Pacific??? This will be a deciding factor for us!!!:rotfl2:

Well I'm hoping so, we have two pre-schoolers and they are already hyped about the swimming pools. Coming from our winter, anything is warm and we are packing all our swimming clothes for So.Cal. Jetskigirl may log on and give you some idea of weather, they were cruising recently on the Wonder (abet to Mexico).

Hi and Welcome!!

I was on the Wonder in both January and April (in the Pacific) and both times there were plenty of people using the pools. The water is usually very warm in the pools, even if the outside temp isn't that warm. Although on the January cruise, it was a cruise to nowhere so we weren't traveling very fast (so there was less wind).

On our cruise last month, the only time it was too cold for the pool was on our last sea day (heading back to Los Angeles) and I think we caught the tail end of a storm. The seas were pretty rough and it was windy (so not much fun in the pools).

But September can go either way in California. Usually it is still quite warm, even into October so I'm hoping for warm weather myself. I think the lowest it would get would be into the 70's (especially when in San Francisco). But it is not uncommon for it to still be in the 80's in Sept. We had a really mild summer last year so I'm actually hoping it will be a lot hotter this year (especially through the end of September!).

Well, I had my pre-op stuff today and surgery is a go for next Monday still. Odd to say but I am looking forward to getting closer to being pain free - so here's to hoping that is my end result!

Not much else to report. About time to make my final payment as we can book excursions next weekend - and since I really don't know how I will be, I think I best get at least the payment part taken care of.

Thunderstorms here - or it is trying. We need the rain as they are worried about fires. If it isn't snow and ice - it is always something else!

Enjoy your evening - afternoon or day, depending on your location.

All systems go for you Gail. I think when you've been in pain for ages, a surgery is a relief as it can change your whole wellbeing. I spent 20 years having tonsilitis two or three times a year and pleading to have them removed only to be told they were too small. Finally my new GP believed me, we had to go thru some hoops but I got the surgery and I've not had a throat issue in 10 months! So fingers crossed it's the light at the end of the tunnel getting brighter by the day for you.

Oddly I spent the day at the local private hospital having a minor procedure done. It's all now off for a biopsy to make sure it's not skin cancer and I have stitches, dressing and tape on my face. The kids have been itching to poke it all day.

We had two days of torrential rain, like monsoon but contstantly for 48 hours. The dog refused to go outside to the bathroom for eight hours at one point and held firm until there was a minor break and she dashed out. Now it's swung to the South and it's gone from being 18C on Sunday to 8C today and people talking about sleet. As you say, it's one extreme to the other.

Hubby's workplace seems to have taken on the plot of a John Grisholm novel in the past 24 hours. It's all gone quite odd. I'm dithering around planning stuff for September holiday because of all the uncertainty. I've told hubby I need to start visiting the local schools to decide if we go for the one in zone or the one out of zone, I can't put it off because his work is all crazy.

:welcome: to our newest cruising buddies! My name is Gail, sailing with DH (David) and this will be our 14th DCL cruise. So looking forward to the ports.

FE reminder - if you would like to participate, I am keeping the list so please PM me a your information (names, children's ages, cabin number and email address) and I will get you added to the list. So far there are only 4 families (and 3 of those are just adult couples) so the more the merrier.

Postcard exchange - I would also be the keeper of that list. It is just a postcard exchange - using local to your home postcards. Just fun to really see some of the area where we are all from. I mainly just need cabin numbers for that.

DISmeet - on any cruise I have been on - we met at 3:00 and generally in the Promenade Lounge (deck 3) but we have also met up by the pools so that the kids can swim. It is more difficult to meet there and get out of the way of the traffic flow but whatever everyone decides. It is super to put a face to a name.

OK, nothing else to report althought it is FRIDAY (well, here it is), the sun is shining and it is supposed to be a glorious weekend.

Enjoy!!!

:cheer2::cheer2:Welcome to Peja (Renata) and AussieMumma! We have quite an international group as I think there's one couple from the UK (way way back in the thread), two families from Aussie, one Canadian family, people from all across the USA and we are from New Zealand.

My DH & I are bringing our boys to the US to celebrate their fifth birthdays, a couple of months early as they turn five in late November. It's our first ever cruise too.

I guess some of our kids will be all in the same kids club together. AussieMumma, one of my boys was relieved to know there would be an Australian little boy in the kids clubs in case people can't understand his accent as he knows the Australians can understand him just fine! Love the Sunshine Coast, we went over to Caloundra last year at Easter time, much better than the GC for our family.

Oh Gail I'll do the postcard exchange too, at this stage it looks like we will remain on the Kapiti Coast - that makes a pretty card. What day of the cruise is the DIS CM meet usually held?

Disneyland tickets are about to go up on Sunday. Mad scramble here to work out if we want a four day pass for DCL or one of the So Cal City Passes or the like. Argh I was hoping for a quiet night, now I'm working the numbers again.

18 weeks from today we will be on a plane headed to LAX! Slowly getting closer I must say. I can start making excursion reservations beginning next weekend so that is two pending items that can be checked off the list.

DISmeet - my suggestion would be Sunday afternoon at 3:00 but I am open to whenever. If you all feel that it would be good to hold it up by the pool so your kids can swim, we can figure something out. Thoughts??

Well, still on for Monday - at 2:00PM! I am not so happy about that as I still have the no food or liquids after midnight rule. While I look like I missed my last meal (even though I have lost 30 lbs.) I will be hungry and VERY thirsty by then. We don't have to be at the hospital until noon. I think I will go to work in the morning, just to take my mind of 'stuff'.

Well, gorgeous here again - it could stay like this all year around and I would be a happy girl. Take care and enjoy your day!

Thinking of you today Gail. Don't worry about nil by mouth until your afternoon op too much, more you think about it more it will drive you crazy. At least you are an adult and understand why it is so, not a small child who can't understand why they are precluded food/beverages. If it's any help I did nil by mouth for 31 days during daylight hours once for a friend who was sick and couldn't do her Ramadan fasting - got into the swing of it after a day or two, first day was hard.

First frost of the winter today. Had to remind DH not to run on the ice as we don't want another broken arm. Five weeks and he's doing the winter marathon around Wellington, so he's training hard. 16 miles under his belt yesterday.
