Sept. 2009 @ WDW! Be a Pop Tart 2009~come share your(Bounce Back or NOT)Dates !!!

Ang, thanks for the congratulations and the info! I think getting the GED early is a great idea, if the person is ready for school. Actually, even if they aren't. If they are ready to work and start getting more life experiences, I think that is fine also. I took a year and worked before starting college.

Florida does have internet schooling and that is something I am going to look into.

Jacob has a lot of social issues, so he doesn't make friends easily. School can be a really hard place for him. But, our neighborhood has a lot of kids and he has made friends with the boy next door. We are very excited about that. Having friends has been a concern of mine when trying to decide about homeschooling.

Ok, so now I am ranting about schools. Isn't this suppose to be about our bounceback trips in September. :lmao: Even though I just spent 5 days over the past two weeks at WDW, I am really looking forward to my weekend in September. It is nice living close to WDW, but it's not the same when you drive up for the day and then have to leave.

Ok, I have got to go lay back down. Hopefully, I can get over this cold soon.

Hope everyone has a great day!:goodvibes

ANG.............SMART ALECK:upsidedow

JM........check out the cirriculum for K12. It is what I use for my DD5. Not sure how old your little monster is but it works great for mine. It is mastery (??)based --like it goes at your pace, if want to work ahead great! My brat will probably start 1st grade work before the end of the year is up. They also are set up for special needs students.

The good thing about it for your family is that you wont have to worry about changing cirriculums if you have to move to another state or even country. Quite a few states (FL inc.) have charter cyber schools set up like a public school where they provide everything (loaner computer, paid internet, materials, etc) free of charge. Not sure how it works for international.

I had a few teacher problems at first but we are in a groove now (with the exception of days when her dad's stubborn genes kick in:laughing: )

The DD is involved in Girl Scouts (psst wanna buy some cookies?:lmao: ) and occaisional events and gatherings. They will find friends on their own.
Good luck in whatever you decide.

Vix A.K.A. your resident homeschooling mom.;)

Good afternoon everyone!!!

Vix,
Hey hey now. I will admit to being smart but not an aleck. I wonder if the word aleck is in the dictionary gotta check.

Melissa,
I don't think anyone will get too upset on this thread for going off topic since we do it all the time. If we only talked about our September trips we would be almost silent. lol Anyone who wants to protest is welcome to speak up.

Ang

Vix, thanks for the info. Oh, and Jacob is a 4th grader. I found the website for K12. I'll look into it when my head is a little clearer. Only got on the computer to email Jacob's teacher because he isn't sure what his homework is? Oh, everyone will just love this. His math homework has a note that they are only to do 1-20, but there are only 15 problems on the page and 13-15 have lines through them.:confused3

One more thing Vix, THIN MINTS!!!! I love girl scout cookie time. I've been known to order a case of just the Thin Mints! Hope sells go well!

My rear end is going back to the couch as soon as I get Jacob started on his homework. Hopefully the cold/flu, whatever it is will leave my house soon.

Melissa

JM....Have to freeze those things...they taste so much better that way. Anyone else want cookies? Virtual or real...hehehe.

Good Afternoon, Everyone.

Oh no!! Is it that time again?? Girl Scout Cookies??? I'm doomed. I won't see any until late Feb when my DD and SIL go to FL to visit their niece who is a Girl Scout. They'll bring back our order - a long time to wait.

As I read the musings of school and children, I am relieved not to be in the midst of having young ones. With my grandbaby only 4 mos old, it's not something my DD will experience for awhile.

I have deep respect for the job of parenting - especially in today's world. God bless you!

Not much going on here...how about my countdown? Sure as heck hope I have trip before then! Of course, I never give up on any possiblity of a WDW trip. :thumbsup2

Have a good Thursday! Oh, wait, it's only Wednesday...still, only 2 more days to the first full work week since the Holidays. :)

Vix, I stick them in the freezer also. I realized last year that I don't like them any other way.

Minnie&Nana, I've been counting the days this week also. As soon as Jacob has him homework done, I will mark today off. Actually already thought, "one more day of homework!".

Anybody have fun planned for the weekend? I wanted to take a photography class, but since I'm still not feeling well thinking I better just stay home. Maybe I can try next month.

Melissa,
Have you looked into either the school councelor or mental health center having social skills classes? I had a foster child who I stuck in every social skills class I could find. It helped him a lot.

As for the homework been there where what they have told them to do is not correct and if the student doesn't hand in the work on time the next day they get a 0% or 50% F depending on the teacher. Mistakes or none I have been told they should do all the work if they don't remember what to do. One big help is an assignment book that will help him be more organized and have him get the teacher to initial at the end of the day. Without the assignment book DS would sadly be a lost sole. I so look forward to school breaks and summer it is so much easier to teach him myself in the summer.

photography is fun enjoy the course.

Vix,
As I said I admit to the smart but not the aleck. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

M&N,
You could a some cookies from Vix and have her ship them since she loves the post office. Right Vix? This way you would have a box or two to tide you over till the end of Feb/March. The first full week is now half over; it's hump day. Woo Hoo I am sure a lot of gals on this list love it.

Jacob is currently in Occupational Therapy, Physcial Therapy, and Language Therapy. The Language Therapy is to help him socially. But thank you for the suggestion of the social skills classes. I'm going to ask his psychiatrist and also the therapy place to see if they know of any classes.

OH no. I hope I'm not contagious, maybe I should stay off the boards.:rotfl: Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. We are all home today. Jacob acted like he was going to be sick to his stomach this morning, and said he didn't feel well, so I just left him home. His teacher has been sick also, so I know she doesn't need it again. DH went ahead and stayed home from work.

Hope you are feeling better for the game Sunday.

DS was in Occupational and Speach Therapy. Is language therapy the same as Speach therapy? Both ended when he went to middle school and I conceded because he did not want to be pulled out of classes at that age.

If it doesn't bother you to ask the school councelor sometimes they have groups of kids that they do different things pertaining to social skills with. DS middle school has a bunch of different groups going. Anger management, social skills, children of divorce, loss of loved ones, assertiveness training (DS got to take that one) and some others.

Kristin,
Are you feeling any better today or is it one of those sinus infection things that go on for a week or more?

Ang

What a great idea, Ang! if only I'd read this before the little girl next door came a knocking. ::yes::

We did it!! Got through the first full week after the holidays! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be - went by pretty quick, but that may be because my daughter got off 90 mins early Mon, Tuesday and Wed. LOL

Baby's hungry, must run..back later. Have a great one!

P.S. Anyone go down for the Marathon weekend?

glad you are feeling better... when you're done.. mind coming to Pa

There is a huge difference between a teacher and an employee. I think you all should move over here near me. As long as your student does not need help in math or science I am good to go! :cool1:

Having spent time with Ang and Will I can attest that Ang would be well suited to teach Will. The social issues are the problem. Maybe if she could convince her husband to move to a populated area??? :rotfl: Will is a delight and just needs a bit more attention paid, he is bright and very thoughtful. I got a thank you card from him the other day and it greatly touched my heart as I know it is a bit more difficult for him to do so than for some. I prefer children who think differently. I can relate.:dance3:

jmskinner, congratulations to your dh. :cheer2: Is he in the AF? We have many family members who are in or retired from the AF.

Diva K, you walk and I will watch. Deal?:)

M&N, I love thin mints. I am a chocoholic but cannot stand mint so they are the only cookies that will be safe from me. :rolleyes1 I was once the cookie person for our town, had an empty room to store them in, and it cost me an arm and a leg because my kids kept opening up boxes of cookies.

Hi there MV!! Long time no hear.

One of my furnaces is on the blink so I am waiting for a repairman. My email addy will be changing next Friday, will send the change to anyone I have an email addy for ASAP. I am saving about $25-30 a month. Hope the service is good. My internet will be several times faster than what I have. Goodie!!
