We paid for the one way trip and assumed we would walk down. I used this website as a reference for the one way trip. I don't know how steep is is however if that is a concern.

http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g187510-i1247-k2912289-Cable_Car_vs_taxi_tour-Gibraltar.html

It's a maximum 10 minute walk from the station at the top to St Michael's Cave.

Thank you so much, I knew you'd know. Think we'll do the same. It can't be any worse then walking on the volcano area on Hilo.

I'm just trying to finalize everything, pay as much as I can before we go so I don't have carry as much cash and have Euros to exchange when we get home. val

Noel, or anyone else who might know - Regarding the Skywalk tour in Gilbraltar, did you buy the return ticket or the single? How long of a walk is it back down the rock? Are the other attractions on the way down? As always, thanks for your help. Val

I had a return trip ticket, but decided not to use it and walked all the way down into town. If you want to see St Micaels' Cave, then you will have to walk down a little, but then you can catch the cable car at the midway stop. However, the rest of the attractions (seige tunnels, castle, etc) are below the midway stop.

My 77 year old mother walked down the entire walk. We took it slow but she made it and that is now one of the highlights of her trip.

Its alright actually. Have quite an old version as was given it when I got my laptop for uni so like 10 years ago. It works, has a few quirks and sometimes I don't understand what they are saying but it work on most things. I don't use it that often mind as I don't really need it but it was free so I wasn't going to argue it.

Thanks for your thoughts.

hmm, doesn't quite help me in deciding if I should put out the money for it though. I guess I'll keep researching.

Thanks for knowing that. I had Abby make a new account because she is 13 now and it says that the e-mail is already in use by someone else (her!) so she cannot post anything because for that e-mail, they still have her down as 12! It is very frustrating. This is for the "kid" site too!

Oh yeah, forgot we had to use an alternate email. I agree, it is very frustrating.

As I see many of you catch flights to Barcelona, I wish you a fantastic trip. See you on the boat. If you forget any essential item (even a pirate's patch) tell me and I will do what I can to find it. Greetings to all. Enjoy very much (I work until the 17th, so you give me a lot of envy). By the way could you say to me what clothes are adapted for the dinners ? Should we dress for dinner of the villains?
Actually, I am a perfect Cruella de Vil, even without disguise or at least that's what my kids say.

How nice of you!:)

Hello you all...

Haven't been here for a while?!? So busy with Simon and exhausted at night, when I usually read DISboards...

Should starting making any lists... Hopefully get it done on the weekend. Getting my cruise hairdo on Saturday. *woohoo* :cool1:

AND I have one more questions that came to my mind...

How about the changing facilites for the little ones?!? Do they have neat little diaper changing rooms? Or is it just the restrooms?

Sending bit HELLOs to you... So looking forward to meeting you.
Did I miss something very very very very important... I would regret not knowing???

thx
Steffi.

Poor Steffi, you'll need that cruise!

Busy day here - it is my birthday! 51 years old, how did that happen :scared1:

Sorry I'm late Julie.....hope you had a lovely Birthday!!:cheer2::cheer2:

Laura, Andrew and Ken are spending the night in NYC....will try again tomorrow.....

Hope they make it out today!:rolleyes1

IKWYM - I can't believe DH and I have been together almost 32 years and married for 28... I TOTALLY lucked out!!!!!!!! ::yes::

Come on....spill!!!:thumbsup2

:littleangel:

If the school is recommending it and he has an IEP, a public school is required to pay for it.

Good point, he is on an IEP, but I think the teacher may wiggle out of it, she suggested to him that it would help, but never made a formal recommendation to me.

I'm sorry to say that reports coming out of Tortola indicate that Hurricane Earl has done some damage. For those of you familiar with the island, here's a link from Cruise Critic on some specifics:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1264856

I have emailed our contact whose house we rented last month but haven't heard back. I'll let you know what I hear.

I definitely agree with the CC poster, when you are on Tortola, please consider spending in the local shops and restaurants to help an already difficult economy. We love Tortola!

Andrea

Will definitely help out the economy!

Well....not perfect....but better than the first. I'm not sure where I went wrong this time. Thought I did all my responses the same, but obviously I forgot something. So sorry if this hurts your eyes.

Not far off though Judy!:thumbsup2

Had to laugh out loud at the Cruella comment. All my kids say the same about their mother; I think it's universal!

Oh dear, that is so true!!!:rotfl2:

I've missed all of you!

Needless to say, this week has totally SUCKED as Hayley very eloquently put it. I've only read a few pages after I posted about my childhood friend Becky's passing, so I apologize for not commenting on all that's been posted. However, I do want to express that all your comments as well as the support so many of you have expressed on Facebook have been overwhelmingly appreciated. Really. You have no idea how much it means to me to have my DIS family around. So thank you everyone. Both Becky and Lisa's funeral/memorial were nice in their own way that was suiting to their personalities. I thought I could handle Lisa's a little bit easier than Becky's, but it soooo wasn't the case. Can I just tell you that watching an 8 year old son patting his daddy on his back to console his grief of loosing his wife is just too much to watch? Seriously.....there are some things that we'll just never understand.

I also wanted to say that Stephanie (Steffy), your final loving gesture to your friend as she took her last breath just brought me to tears and does so again as I write this. Sometimes there are just no words to describe an action, and that was one of them.

Before I'm permanently labeled as the depressing poster......

Welcome to some of our new cruising friends and congrats on reports of good health and preventive measures being put into place to maintain your health.

My mom is coming down to visit with me for the next couple of days, but once she leaves, I'll get back on the boards to keep myself in the loop and feed on your excitement. I truly cannot believe we are so close. I was telling friends today that I think I'm going to end up at the airport in 13 days and wonder why the heck I'm there. Thank God that I had that early start on serious packing!

Chat with you all in a couple of days. It will be so nice to be around happy thoughts and smiles with you guys!

We missed you too Kimberley! Glad you've got your Mum staying for a couple of days, Mum's give great cuddles.
I'm sure you need a Mum hug after the sad times you've had recently.

One more thing before I sign off. Since I've been away for the past week or so, perhaps this has already been posted, and if so, I apologize.

A couple of weeks ago, I had started pulling together some "fun" sites for friends and family to keep up with us. Does anyone have any corrections to what I had pulled together so far or have any additions to what I have below?

Just stopping by.

Seems "Earl" has been good to the kids around here as well as the government workers. Schools and colleges are closed. It did not prevent me from checking in for my flight tomorrow to NY, So fingers crossed I will be on that flight tomorrow night.

You can tell there is a storm coming becasue it is ominious outside. I guess that is wear the phrase "calm before the storm" came from.

Welcome to all the new people. Safe journey for all the B2B folks.

For those folks in the US I hope you have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend.

Hope the storm leaves you all alone and blows itself out!:rolleyes1

I AM HERE I AM HERE! I AM HERE!

And I will be packing tiaras and boas!

Yay!!!:woohoo: Can't wait Connie, thanks for bringing extras for us! Have my tiara just need the boa thanks!:cheer2:

A few years back the Pastor at our chuch was doing a childrens sermon and was talking about things we do to save time. The young daughter of the youth group coordinators raised her hand with an idea of how they save time. When asked what they do at home she stated "Every Sunday my Mommy and Daddy take a shower together to save time" The whole church just roared with laughter and I think they may have sunk completely under the pew. For the rest of the service little chuckles would rise up periodically.

Love it!!!!:rotfl:

It gorgeous in scotland today, a great day for shopping, NOT, back to phone shop, return a shirt to burtons, bought short sleeved instead of long, Len looks fab in his black shirt and trousers:lovestruc
Then last night my eagle eye Mum noticed that a swirly thing was falling off the new purple dress (thats what happens when you have a seamstress mum) normally I would just sew it but it was 130 quid so I am not messing with it, going to swap it today hopefully they will have another one....
Tell my my little cruise peeps.why is everything a hassle? :upsidedow

I need this holiday,

Lovely weather here today too Lynne for a change :goodvibes Shame I spent most of it traipsing round the shops after Becky!:rolleyes1 I do like shopping but she walks my feet off!!! (considering she's only little she walks so quickly!!!!) Must have lost a few more pounds today....:thumbsup2

LOL you would if you were 30! I was ID'd for wine in Marks on Saturday yet I have silver streaks that look nuts! Its mad!

:goodvibes Opposite of my dd Sarah......she's 22 and is always being asked if she wants a child fare on the bus (under 16 here), and can never buy alcohol or even paracetamol in the supermarket without being ID'd......I keep telling her she'll love it when she's older!!:thumbsup2

If anybody has extra time (yeah right) but Erik and Jason's travel blog is funny and definitely keeps your interest. I cannot wait till they get to the Med! I was wondering if they will update it every day and so far they have WITH pictures!!! Still trying to get a glimpse of the lanyard, but no such luck!

Been loving their blog too!:thumbsup2

Just had a moment to pop on before leaving for school and wanted to wish all of you Bon Voyage and safe travels. Nursing school started this week. I'm almost never on DIS anymore. I love school and am glad to be here, but I'll also be thinking about all of you and the fun you are having each day while on your trip of a lifetime!

BON VOYAGE

Thank you!!!:goodvibes Good luck with your school :thumbsup2

Connie's son is also poorly right now. He has been for a good week or so, with a sinus infection. She said on FB yesterday that his is still sick and has some more antibiotics and hopes he is well by Tuesday when they fly. So do we Connie!! That might be a painful flight for him if he still has sinus problems.

Poor Patrick! Hope he's better soon

Just wanted to pop in and say enjoy your cruise! DH and I did the EBTA and absolutely loved it. I know you are going to have a blast. If I can give everyone one recommendation, just sit back, relax and enjoy. Things aren't neccesarily going to go as you planned (look at us we were having to deal with the volcano ash as we were getting ready to disembark) but that is part of traveling. The unexpected.

Safe travels and HAVE FUN!!!

Thank you that's nice of you!:goodvibes Just can't wait to relax!

Hi all,

Lauren and I leave for London on Monday!! Looks like it will be raining during our entire stay. Can any of you Londoners and UK residents help me with a little cloud clearing? Thanks in advance!!

If it does rain, we are not going to let it ruin our visit!!

Daniel

Embrace the rain....it's all part of the UK experience!!!:rotfl2:
We'll be doing the sun-dance for you, but don't hold your breath!

Hope you have a fab time in London :cool1:

:littleangel:

Laura is still at JFK....she says it is crazy there with the weather coming in. They keep getting bumped and may look at flying into Madrid and take the train to Barcelona. Will post as I know more......

Oh, what stress.:headache: I suppose at least they have a few days, but it is just terrible being stuck like that. Do they sail Wednesday?

Hi everyone. 2 weeks from now I'll be waiting in the Cleveland airport to head to JFK (New York) to begin our travels :cheer2: So excited and trying not to think about what "could" happen if there are any storms out there.

I was wondering if anyone has previously done the Bath tour at Virgin Gorda. I am most curious about how strenuous the inclines are climbing up and down the rocks and/or the hike to/from the Baths. Are the ladder ropes fairly easy to climb up? (no upper arm strength here!) I've seen some pictures and the rocks you have to "squeeze" through look a little narrow for pooh sized folks and I sure don't want to get stuck! :headache:

Also, what kind of footwear do you wear? It looks from pictures like you should have on tennis shoes....but then you go through water so I'm not sure. Do you wear tennis shoes heading down to the Baths and then switch to water shoes?

I've been trying to get in extra walking this past week and will continue up until we cruise to help build up some stamina but I'm sort of concerned the Baths climbing may be too much. Anyone know?

Linda

We've done the Baths at Virgin Gorda. I'm no light-weight and I had no trouble getting around. We've worn water shoes. It was ok. I don't recall ladder ropes, unless you mean "railings" to hold on to while walking up or down. All in all, it isn't that bad a walk. Our only issue was that the water has been too rough to go snorkeling each time we've been there. It's an awesome place, though. Just beautiful.

Well, just as I thought we had our FE gifts sorted, Becky has just made something really cute!:cutie: So I'm commissioning her to make another 15 for my FE friends!:thumbsup2:woohoo:

:littleangel:

Just did a check of available categories and found a slew of cabins available.

Cat 12, 11, 8 and 7 are available but GTY
Cat 10 had 8 cabins to choose from, all on deck 1
Cat 9 had 3 cabins to choose from, all on deck 2

Don't have time now, but might make another call later today to try and move my cabin. They probably won't be able to since cat 11s are GTY, but hey, its worth a shot at least for the amusement factor to see what answer I would get as to why they couldn't move me.

:littleangel:

I am excited! I think I am on your FE list, but if not, would love to see what Becky made. I love talented people and all the things they can come up with.

I sure hope Laura can get on a flight to Madrid or something. I figured the airport would be crazy today. Thank God for extra days before the cruise. I just keep repeating, "that won't happen to me, that won't happen to me". They haven't been talking much about the other hurricanes so hopefully it will all die down.

Connie - I sure hope Patrick is better and up for flying. I know how much he loves the Disney cruises. I live in Lakeland, but if you need me to run errands or pick anything up for you, just let me know and I would be happy to do that!

Would you recommend Crocs or sandals?

Here is my updated to do list. I am actually doing better than I thought. I had to add three things on. I am starting to accept that I am going to have to replace some of the jewellery kits that seem to have been lost by the postal service. I am still hoping that they will turn up, but if they have not turned up a week before I fly out, then I will get replacements. I also have been notified that the custom components for one Fish Extender gift that I commissioned about 6 months ago shipped on Wednesday. They are coming from the Netherlands, but I am am hoping that they arrive by next Wednesday the latest. So I then have to put them together. I am so glad that this will work out as they are my favourite gift and I was quite sad that I would not be able to give this.

Why do you have to be so orginized?:worship:
Oh, I so agree everything is a hassle!

Can't get any shapewear, and I went to get my 'formal' dress lifted on the shoulders to be told the seamstress is on holiday and it would be 2 weeks.:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Anyway she will do it the morning she returns to work and it will be ready the afternoon before we leave. Why do i leave things to the last minute? One reason was finding somewhere to do it. Our normal place closed down, and the dry cleaners only do hems and the like, so it took a while to notice this place.

I hope your day goes better than you are expecting. I would buy something nice to make up for it!!!;)
It was ok, len come too so I parked in the spaces right next to the doors, we had the roof down and I belted about and got it done.
When I am at my hairdresser's we chat or as you guys might say natter about everything!! She also does my DD Samantha's hair so we chat about her as well.

Yesterday, we spent the entire time talking about my cruise. While I waiting for my hair to process, I reviewed my Barcelona walks book to determine good routes to the Picasso Museum, places for lunch and things we want to see on Wednesday. So as you can see, I made good use of my time.
:worship:

Daniel

Im sorry about the weather, its lovely this week, really, really lovely, it doesnt usually rain in london, a lot they report rain but its ok, I will keep fingers crossed for you, Lynne, have a safe and happy trip.

Oh, what stress.:headache: I suppose at least they have a few days, but it is just terrible being stuck like that. Do they sail Wednesday?

Yes they are on the MED Wednesday (B2B). They were going to have a few days in Barcelona to sightsee.....but maybe not now!!

Thanks Monica for the info on Gilbralter. It is so wonderful to have all this information available to us from people who actually have made this trip. Bob destroyed his ankle last year, plates, pins the whole nine yards so don't want a repeat performance but if your granmother can do I am sure he can. val

Thank you so much, I knew you'd know. Think we'll do the same. It can't be any worse then walking on the volcano area on Hilo.

I'm just trying to finalize everything, pay as much as I can before we go so I don't have carry as much cash and have Euros to exchange when we get home. val

As for me, I purchased both Euros and British pounds. I also put some cash in the form of Euros on a Travelex Master Card. I bought it at the Travelex at Stanford as they will buy back any Euros or pounds that I don't use without a fee as long as I save my receipt.

I also put dollars cash on a Visa card that is recommended by AAA for use. You can reload the Visa online.

I bought the Euros and Pounds at the Travelex at Stanford Shopping Center.
