Are you looking into transport from Le Meridien at all? I'd seen a few people there on the transport list. We're currently booked at the Marriott Renaissance, but may end up at Le Meridien, but would have to figure out port transport if we did that. I was interested in seeing if the buses would be heading out that way or not.

There was one group staying at that hotel that was on the list, but the took there name of the list because they are doing a Private tour on that day. I'm not planing of stopping there right now.

Stephen

Right now we would get pick up around 9:00 am at the Praktik Barcelona and the Praktik Rambla. We would have a bus at each hotel. We should get to the port around 10.
What time does the port open for check-in? What time does boarding begin?

Woody

Its a nice chocolate shop in the UK. They do very good chocolate including my favourite Lemon Swirl bar, which is white chocolate over a lemon mousse with a milk chocolate base and milk chocolate swirls!

okay my mouth is watering.. Thanks to who ever it was that posted the list of chocolates specific to countries. Some I am ashamed to say I have never heard of. So I am now insearch of ones from USA to share.. I also want to find out what they are. I know when I was in Germany I tasted all I could get my hands on. That was also gooood chocolate. :goodvibes

Hey, no talk of fattening food on this thread! There are some us trying to save up our calorie allotment for the Magic!

I don't know what to make of it. Yesterday I checked and Cat 4-8 were all showing only as GTY and I put it in for 2 people and for 4 people just to see what the price differences were.

I LOVE Angie's food talk... :lovestruc

& they may have put all the rooms into GTY because they are getting ready to do room assignments.

As of right now I'm looking at 2 buses. I planning to have one if the buses at the Praktik Rambla at 9:00 and the other bus at the Praktik Barcelona at 9:00. I'm Thinking about 20 to 30 min to pack up and 30 min to the port. If it only one bus, Pick up at Praktik Barcelona at 8:30 and then go to the around Praktik Rambla 9 then to the port. More of the diser want to get to the port around the time it opened that why the time are early. If you want to go on the bus from Praktik Barcelona or Praktik Rambla let me know. If you no longer want to go let me know ASAP.

Thanks for looking into this. Unfortunately the timing won't work for us as the pick-up is too early. I think we won't be heading to port until 1130 or noon as we'd like to get some more Barcelona touring in on Saturday morning. Thanks again - I'm sure we will see each other once on board.

Those are terrific!

I have a question for all those travelling with kids and who have been on DCL before...

It's our first cruise with little Simon and our first time at family beach on Castaway Cay.
Is there enough shade to stay? Or should we rather bring our tent?!?
We have this very cool pop-up-super-ready-to-use tent. And I was thinking about taking it with us... Should we?!?

smiley3870.gif

There is enough shade, remember weight in the suitcase!!!
We took a small family member and she is a redhead , very sun sensitive she did well.

I finally got caught up. Thank God for my DSIS, She is keeping me up dated. I stopped my facebook games to catch up. This is a long work week for me. I wanted to keep up with some of the details.
The USA Peeps, Is there a way we can let eachother know with out breaking the fun of surprise withthe chocolate exchange who is bringing what. I love chocolate and the thought of getting different ones to taste is awesome.. I hope I bring enough diabetic medication, i am going to enjoy myself. There are a few important things in my life: Family, Disney, and chocolate not always in that order. PM me if you have any ideas. DSIS already has hers and I cannot decide. I see someone is doing snickers, mounds and m&m's. Cannot wait to see what else is comming on board. :yay:

All this talk about smoking got me wondering. Is smoking allowed on the US to Spain flights? That would really make me .

I've not been on an airline in years that allows smoking - even most developing countries ban it due to the safety issues with smoking on an aircraft. The US banned it on US carriers in 2000 but I know many other airlines were smoke free well before this.

There are a handful of airlines that do still allow it on some route - see this list here - however I really doubt you will be on any of the airlines that allow it as they are mostly Middle East and less developed Asian countries that still permit it.

Question for those arriving to Barcelona before the 17th. Do any of you have a recommendation on excorted tours of the city? We come in on the 14th and have scheduled the Monserrat tour on the 17th and Girona on the 18th with some of you but are wondering about the other 3 days. So any suggestions would be appreciated. Val

I purchased the Lonely Planet Guide to Barcelona and we will be touring on our own. It appears that its cheap and easy to get around on the Metro and an easily walkable city with lots to see.

Did my mom Tru tell you her news? She sold her house last week, then bought a new one the next day! It is about 15 houses and around the block from us, which is terrific. It's a nice house with a terrific yard (she's a gardener). Crazy bird she is, she closes on the house 9 days before she leaves for her ABD trip Knights and Lights and our cruise! Actually, the timing is quite good because she can pack like crazy, move, have a week or so to arrange the kitchen, bathroom and her room, then jet off to Europe to de-stress. Coming home, she'll be in her new place, and this next chapter of her life will begin! Currently she lives 90 minutes away from me and 2 hours from my sister. We don't get to see her enough. So wish her loads of energy and big hugs (this was my mom and dad's dream house that they bought and did up together, and he died just a few years ago, love of her life he was.)

Excuse me if she already posted this news. I read everything and retain some things!

Thats wonderful news. I love living near my Mum - she's less than 1km away and takes less than 10 minutes to walk there. Very handy if we need a dog sitter ;)

This is weather so the values do not represent the actual temperatures that we will experience they are representations of temperature averages that could possibly help in planning.

Great information - thank you! Definitely much warmer than it will be here in NZ when we leave, though at least it will look like spring in September :)

I have got quote from one bus company waiting for another. Right now we would get pick up around 9:00 am at the Praktik Barcelona and the Praktik Rambla. We would have a bus at each hotel. We should get to the port around 10. Right now It looks to be about $20 USD. Right now I have 45 people Confirmed and 4 unknown. If any one want to join from this hotels let me know ASAP. I was wonder if you guy are planning to bring a ton of luggage. We would all fit on one bus right know with 10 seat for luggage. I don't what this to be like the LA bus though.

I'm guessing there will be less luggage than on the EBPC? I think most people will be limited to one suitcase on their international flights? Just out of interest, does anyone know what a taxi would cost to the port - just in terms of any larger groups, it may work out cheaper than $US20 per person?

Just coming back to add to this - I found this which indicates its about 8 euro from the port to the city centre so it might be cheaper to get a taxi...

LOL that was me - personally I don't mind duplicates - all chocolate is good ;)

I'm planning to buy chocolate bars in each port too - something that I can't get here.

That is good news and will be so much more convenient.

Off to start cooking now. Friends coming for dinner and Bible study in an hour. :goodvibes I'm making shrimp linguini with a salad and garlic bread. Apple cake with rum sauce and whipped cream for dessert. YUMMER!!

You have the best Bible studies!!! We get a cup of tea!!:lmao:

Thanks for that info, but one thing for sure....................
It will be warmer than in Scotland:yay:

It will be warmer than Wales too :woohoo:

Hi!

Just looking at things to do in Gibraltar, I found this website:

http://www.gibraltarinfo.gi/gibraltar-tickets.aspx

They sell advance tickets to sights in Gibraltar (so you don't have to carry as much cash), and they have a pretty good deal that includes all the touristy things like the cable car, apes, siege tunnels, St. Michael's Cave, etc. Seems pretty reasonable.

They also sell tickets to the same Dolphin Excursion that DCL uses. DCL is charging 59 dollars for their excursion, including transportation, with no other attractions. The website above sells the same excursion for around 20 euros, but you have to get yourself there. The island is small, taxis and busses are plentiful.

What I think we are going to do is a combo ticket with all the touristy stuff AND the dolphin excursion for 33 euros for adults, 29 for kids. Seems pretty reasonable and packs in a lot of activity on this small island!

Thought I would share.

Thanks for that ... we may book some things in advance to save on the currency issues.

Apple cake with rum sauce and whipped cream .... are you trying to torture us Angie. It sounds divine!

Not on US-flagged carriers.

I don't think any airlines allow smoking .... I couldn'r imagine how bad that would be but I'm sure when I was younger they allowed smoking on planes. :scared1:

If you haven't been to Barcelona before, be sure to do a Gaudi day. Antoni Gaudi was a Catalan Modernist architect with many very famous and fascinating works around Barcelona. In fact, you haven't "seen" Barcelona 'til you learn about Gaudi and see his masterpieces--he is revered in Catalonia. :worship:

Three of his main works are within walking distance of each other (a long walk): Casa Batillo, Casa Mila (La Pedrera) and Sagrada Familia. The first one was a private home and the second an apartment building. Sagrada Familia, his still unfinished cathedral, has to be seen to be believed.

His Park Guell is further out of the city center but really worth the subway or taxi ride; the Park was originally intended to be a housing development for the rich but failed (early 1900s--he was ahead of his time). Today, it is a gorgeous and unusual park with beautiful mosaics. It's highlighted in the movie Vicky Christina Barcelona.

Looking forward to seeing all the Gaudi buildings .... we aim to do all of this on the Friday :yay:

Good morning back to you Lynne :goodvibes

You should not have a problem finding an umbrella....and by the time we are at CC you should have met LOTS of nice DISers who would be happy to share the shade with you. :thumbsup2

Can I please come over. YUMMY!!!

Well, we never sleep in at Castaway, but I think you'll still find some shade, although you may have to walk a little farther. You may not even need to sleep in. Remember, we get 5 extra hours of rest throughout the cruise!:cloud9:

;) You are rigth. And PLUS I think little Simon makes sure we don't sleep in anyway.

There is enough shade, remember weight in the suitcase!!!

You are very right.

THANKS TO YOU ALL for your thoughts and tips.

O how funny me and my DBB call it TWIGLET as well, i thought that was only us :rotfl:

saddly i'm not a fan.... we went to see the original film while on hoilday in Disneyland ... and i fell asleep halfway through :sad2::sad2::sad2:

My DBB nudged me awake and said lets go eat :rotfl: so we walked out and went to bubba gump LOL

She has since read all of the books and really like them, i just found the films a little to dreary for my taste.

SW

LOL if it is an American thing then I'm obviously in the wrong country! I didn't overly like the movie. It would have been OK for a Sunday afternoon TV movie! Just glad it was Orange Wednesday so only paid £3.60 to see it!
