I don't think any airlines allow smoking .... I couldn'r imagine how bad that would be but I'm sure when I was younger they allowed smoking on planes. :scared1:

As a child we used to fly as airline staff (ie standby) and apart from having the family split up, we'd often end up in the back few rows on the flight which was the smoking section.

I suffered terrible motion sickness too, and it go to the point where as soon as people started to light up, the motion sickness and smell of the cigarettes would start me vomiting - all the way from New Zealand to the UK (thats 2 x 12 hours flights).

I also remember one year Dad ended up in the back row of a flight, and the rest of us were luckily a bit further forward, but he lost his voice completely for 3 days just due to the excessive cigarette smoke

I'm so glad flights are non-smoking now.

Its even nice to be able to go out to a pub or a club now and not come home stinking like other peoples cigarettes.

DH took the kids away for the afternoon and dinner (yay! swimming with my mom at my sister's house). and I have been alternating between lounging around on the computer and putting away laundry and diverting items to my "Might Pack" pile. I also picked up my two dresses I recently purchases and so got to throw them in the pile also.

Did my mom Tru tell you her news? She sold her house last week, then bought a new one the next day! It is about 15 houses and around the block from us, which is terrific. It's a nice house with a terrific yard (she's a gardener). Crazy bird she is, she closes on the house 9 days before she leaves for her ABD trip Knights and Lights and our cruise! Actually, the timing is quite good because she can pack like crazy, move, have a week or so to arrange the kitchen, bathroom and her room, then jet off to Europe to de-stress. Coming home, she'll be in her new place, and this next chapter of her life will begin! Currently she lives 90 minutes away from me and 2 hours from my sister. We don't get to see her enough. So wish her loads of energy and big hugs (this was my mom and dad's dream house that they bought and did up together, and he died just a few years ago, love of her life he was.)

Excuse me if she already posted this news. I read everything and retain some things!

Congratulations to your Mum!

Thanks for looking into this. Unfortunately the timing won't work for us as the pick-up is too early. I think we won't be heading to port until 1130 or noon as we'd like to get some more Barcelona touring in on Saturday morning. Thanks again - I'm sure we will see each other once on board.

We're staying at the Renaissance at the airport and we're booked on the 11am shuttle to the port

Well I sorted out the candy bars last night. I think there's at least one per person in each cabin sorted so all good. Only ate 2 while packing them up (which for me was a miracle). Just FE gifts to finish off now and we are all done! Oh and insurance to buy

Hi!

Just looking at things to do in Gibraltar, I found this website:

http://www.gibraltarinfo.gi/gibraltar-tickets.aspx

They sell advance tickets to sights in Gibraltar (so you don't have to carry as much cash), and they have a pretty good deal that includes all the touristy things like the cable car, apes, siege tunnels, St. Michael's Cave, etc. Seems pretty reasonable.

They also sell tickets to the same Dolphin Excursion that DCL uses. DCL is charging 59 dollars for their excursion, including transportation, with no other attractions. The website above sells the same excursion for around 20 euros, but you have to get yourself there. The island is small, taxis and busses are plentiful.

What I think we are going to do is a combo ticket with all the touristy stuff AND the dolphin excursion for 33 euros for adults, 29 for kids. Seems pretty reasonable and packs in a lot of activity on this small island!

Thought I would share.

Thanks for the website. I am going to have to check this out. At the moment we have the dolphin tour booked through DCL, but might cancel this and book direct.

Not on US-flagged carriers.

I don't know any carrier that still allows smoking. None of the European carriers do and I work for a Middle Eastern carrier and we do not allow it either.

I just checked the DCL website, and did some digging. At the moment, the only cabins available where you can select the cabin you want are in (2010) categories 4 & 5. All the other categories (except suites, which are, I guess, all booked) are only being offered as GTY's.

I'm not experienced enough to know what this means (:confused3) but suspect it means that there are few vacancies in categories 12 through 6, none in 1 to 3, but a pretty reasonably supply in categories 4 & 5 (at least 10 per category, and probably more).

I may be making a lot of stew out of not that many oysters, but I suspect that means that a number of us will be getting upgrades!

And if anyone has more experience in these matters, then I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Best regards,
Richard pirate:

I don't think that the availability of specific cabin numbers has anything to do with how full the ship is. When I had originally booked the EBTA, all I could get was GTY. However, they kept discounting the price as the ship was nowhere near full. I am not sure how full the ship sailed in the end as I had to cancel this cruise and did the first Med instead.

If you haven't been to Barcelona before, be sure to do a Gaudi day. Antoni Gaudi was a Catalan Modernist architect with many very famous and fascinating works around Barcelona. In fact, you haven't "seen" Barcelona 'til you learn about Gaudi and see his masterpieces--he is revered in Catalonia. :worship:

Three of his main works are within walking distance of each other (a long walk): Casa Batillo, Casa Mila (La Pedrera) and Sagrada Familia. The first one was a private home and the second an apartment building. Sagrada Familia, his still unfinished cathedral, has to be seen to be believed.

His Park Guell is further out of the city center but really worth the subway or taxi ride; the Park was originally intended to be a housing development for the rich but failed (early 1900s--he was ahead of his time). Today, it is a gorgeous and unusual park with beautiful mosaics. It's highlighted in the movie Vicky Christina Barcelona.

You will love the tour to Monserrat; it's an special and spiritual place. I hope your tour is timed to hear the famous boys choir sing, usually at noon, I believe.

Andrea

We are hoping to see some of Gaudi's work this time round. We are definitely doing Sagrada Familia and Park Guell, but might check out the other two places you mentioned as well.

From what i read the port opens at 10 and they start boarding around 11:30.

The timings mentioned were the ones that we had on the Med cruise

Hello Papaya group!.

Does everyone already have their Fish extenders? I have a couple of extras and I thought I would offer them to members of our group first. :santa:

SOOO If you are a "Papaya" and in need.... Let me know!

I do not have any extra dowl rods, so you will need to take care of that part.

Let me know,:wizard:
Cynthia

The Fish Extenders are lovely. You are so talented.

I am so torn about the Champagne Girls. I do love bubbly and that sounds like a lot of fun. I am not sure where I will get the bubbly from though. I am not sure if I have enough time in Barcelona to go shopping. There is also the little matter of the outfit, but then again, I just saw a gorgeous pink dress on sale that I would love anyway and I got an email from the seller that I got my formal night tiara from with a gorgeous pink tiara at a bargain price. What is a girl to do?

Corinna

And never ever with Crocs!!!!

Oh, we love the small things such as this!!!

OhOh, I have been know to wear socks and crocs, Only at home though.....Does that make it any better? :lmao:
Small things are what keep us going, I tell the kids a small bit of info about the cruise everyday to keep their excitement levels high. We all know the anticipation of a vacation is half the fun! :goodvibes

I don't think it's you. I think it is the clothes manufacturers. They don't know how real people are built! Also, low rise seems to be about the only option anymore since that is what is currently in fashion. To me, low rise=plumber butt, regardless of how much or how little junk there is in the trunk!

I agree, I can only find 'low-rise' every where I look and I don't want to have to shave to wear my jeans! :lmao:

Oh my God lol! I hope you had some Christmas music on while doing it! Can't decorate without Xmas music!

Let me start by saying I am only 33, but it's my mum's tradition, which is now my tradition to listen to Bing Crosby's White Christmas when decorating the tree, I can't do it otherwise! :)

For the last 2 years they have allowed you to so I'm hoping they will again this year! Only for food mind!

That's great, Thanks!

Krisann those Exlax chocolates might be needed if the horror stories I've been reading about Iron tablets are true lol!

I have also been anaemic years ago, I found that the only iron I could take without needing the Exlax was an iron in liquid form, called Spatone, I think it's from Wales, so you should be able to get it. I would drink it in orange juice.

We leave home in EIGHT weeks and 5 days!!! :dance3::woohoo:
:yay: Your in the 8's! :yay:

Pretty shoes!!!

(3 a.m. EDT) -- A 14-year-old cruise passenger has died after being caught in a crossfire in the popular Coki Beach area of St. Thomas.

So Sad! :sad1:

Here's another shot:

Beautiful, Because it's my birthday on Christmas Eve, I get to choose what we do, so much to my DH's disgust we drive around for a couple of hours every christmas eve and look at the sparkly houses. I love it, we usually get a huge ice-cream sundae and DH drives while the girls slurp ice-cream and ogle the pretty lights. It one of my favourite things to do all year. :lovestruc

I have a lovely day planned. After the gym I'm off into town to meet my friend for coffee, then we're going to see Eclipse :cloud9: then off to Jamie Oliver's Italian for early dinner....all to celebrate her 40th tomorrow

Sounds like a perfect day, Have fun!

Oh and I'm going to see Twighlight tonight (Twiglet as I call it) having never seen any of the others! Am I going to get confused?
Are you seeing Twilight or the latest one Eclipse? I read the books, loved them, but the movies don't match what I have in my head from reading the books.....Does that make sense? Hope you enjoy it !
I have now got my new computer ....

DIS looks great on a 23 " monitor as opposed to a 15 " which is what I have had for the past 11 years.
:cool1::cool1::cool1:

OH NO!! I just realized this means I need a pink outfit!!! the one I wore last time is too big on me now - so I guess I need to go shopping! I may have to do white pants and a pink shirt this time though!

Krisann

Any excuse to go shopping! :dance3:

NOT a Twilight fan! ;) Guess its more a girl thing......maybe? I really loved Eclipse today, thought it was very well made and true to the book....and *sigh* Edward looked so lovely!;)
Ew, Edward is skinny and pale and pasty, and quite frankly....I would break him......Give me Jacob any day! :rotfl:

All this talk and pictures of fabulous dresses has put me to shame. So now I am the proud owner of a big gold coloured creation. I got it in Birmingham - Anoushka G??? Something like that.
Its a bit tight and DM, who was with me, has offered to buy me a certain undergarment!

Back to the spanx talk.........:rolleyes1

So, I have just returned from the 2nd of three dental visits for the crowns. Next visit is an easy one to just replace the temps with permanent ones. I am so looking forward to a mouth that doesn't hurt... I am leaving the implant that I will need for next year so that insurance will cover it. There is a place here that advertises that you can go in in the morning and come out with the implant completed. I will have to look into that as this three appointment stuff drives me nuts. My dentist is nice, and I like her, but not enough to keep wanting to go back!

I really feel your pain, If you can get the implants done in one day - do it! Mine are this huge long drawn out process, taking months!!!

This is weather so the values do not represent the actual temperatures that we will experience they are representations of temperature averages that could possibly help in planning.

It is the middle of winter here right now, I have jeans, a top and a wool sweater on......and it is 23c today. So, for us, I will bring cardigans and maybe even a scarf in case it's windy! Thanks!

I am not a papaya, and I have my FE, But yours are fantastic, great job, you should sell them on Etsy!

I'm guessing there will be less luggage than on the EBPC? I think most people will be limited to one suitcase on their international flights? Just out of interest, does anyone know what a taxi would cost to the port - just in terms of any larger groups, it may work out cheaper than $US20 per person?
Hi Paula, we have booked Barcelona taxi Van, there are 4 of us, 4 large suitcases and 4 cabin bags. We have confirmed a price of 45 euros for all of us.
Just to brighten your day and put a little smile/big laugh on your face.

I think Disney should hire him for our cruise!!

I love him, he is awesome, definitely put a smile on my face! Thanks!

EW! No offense to smokers, It's a free world....but seriously, It is so bad for not only the smokers health but everyone around them, the health problems are so vast and proven I just don't understand how people can slowly kill themselves and their loved ones that they smoke around? Honestly, what goes through their heads to make it OK? :confused3

Minnesotans either!! :)

or most of us UK'ers!:thumbsup2

I love them! The Tink & Ariel ones are especially beautiful!:woohoo:

Good Morning cruisers.:goodvibes

Good morning to you too!:)

The oufit is really not an issue Corinna. A pink t shirt or something is fine if you have one, if not it's not important...its just a moment to share our bubbles....even if we buy a glass together onboard!

Corinna ... don't worry about having to buy the bubbly ... you can share mine :thumbsup2 One glass and I'm a bit wibbly so if I bring a bottle of bubbly there will be plenty for 2 !!

PS Can you PM me details of your tiara seller .. I may just wear my wedding one but if I can't find it I will need options. Thanks

I do actually wear my crocs as slippers and so wear socks in the winter too. Comfy and snug!!!:thumbsup2 But not when i wore them over in Florida on vacations, never!

Oh, those low rise trousers!!! Girls have lost their natural waists now and always have muffin tops whatever they wear. Their waists are up under their busts.(Not all girls I should say!!)

We were at WDW before Christmas a few years ago and decided to go for a drive around Celebration to see the decorated houses. They were wonderful, and one had music and dancing lights!!! However, we just couldn't find our way out of the place and kept passing the same houses. No matter how many people we asked, we just kept getting lost! Kind of like a science fiction film!!!:scared1:

I have just started setting up my new computer and DD has made me catch up with the times and sign to Windows Live. The only thing is I don't have any contacts as I don't know anyone else who has it, apart from DD's friends.

Does anyone have a Windows LIve ID ( or a hotmail email address apparently ) so I can add you to my list and not feel like Billy No Mates .... apparently you can live chat on it in a group so we could start up a WBTA group.

You can send me a PM ( INBOX now sorted thanks to our resident techy legend Sue :worship: )

Just coming back to add to this - I found this which indicates its about 8 euro from the port to the city centre so it might be cheaper to get a taxi...

http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/en/transport/barcelona-cruise-port.html

I start like at taxis too, but with all the sucharges I'm not sure what will be cheaper. 2,00 € to start the meter. 2,10 € to go to the port. 1,00 € per bag. 1,10 € per KM

Also I had a couple groups cancel so it look like one bus with 38 to 40 people on a 55 passenger bus. With out the second bus should make it cheaper. I need to request new quotes. I will let you know when i get them.

I always swore I wouldn't be seen dead in crocs, until 4 weeks at WDW, my feet were swollen and bleeding, I bought a pair of pink Mickey crocs, OMG...relief, they are so comfy! I threatened DH with divorce if he got my crocs in any photo's, it was knees up only :lmao:
Now...My crocs have grown on me, I have quite the collection, and I love them, too bad if they're ugly!

Muffin tops.....I'm sure I've seen some 5 tier wedding cake tops! :lmao:
I can understand that the younger girls want to be in fashion, and can't find anything appropriate for their shape, It must be hard for them. :confused3

I would love to go to WDW and USA at Christmas, It may be on the cards next year, we'd love to have a white christmas, or at least cold, it is always 40 degrees plus here on christmas day, you don't enjoy the big roast meal so much when it's that hot. My sister is pregnant and is having a cesarean on the 23rd of Dec, so we will be having Christmas is hospital this year, :goodvibes, at least the air conditioning will be cold. :rotfl:

Thanks so much for doing this! My group of three are still planning on using the bus. Can't wait to get there early and get on that ship as soon as it's available! Let me know when you need the $$.
