Another The Hat lover here. I haven't been to the one in Brea but lived just up the street from the one in Glendora for quite a few years. VERY tasty pastrami!!

Wow, small world!! My grandmother and grandfather lived in Glendora from 1955-1980 on Prospero Drive.

.... Dh spent time at the Muhammad Ali Center, where he was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Wow, can life change in a blink of an eye.
Changes are being made and meds are added and more Dr's appointment.
Hardest part is Phoenix is a 4 hr drive! One way! If I wanted to drive 4 hrs... I would go west and be at Disneyland!!! Oh , thats right, I have to wait till November for that!
So anyway...meds are very costly and if one doesnt work, try another costly one! There is lots of hope and new studies are going on all the time.
If life gives you lemons... just make some lemon jello shots and have a party! Life is still good!

to you both! Indeed science has been doing leaps with understanding Parkinson's and the drugs needed. My step-grandfather had Parkinson's diagnosed twenty years ago when he was in his early 50's, so I have a bit of an understanding of all the decisions and trial-and-error you're both faced with. So have lots of lemon jello shots and enjoy the parties! It *IS* all good!

We are spending 3 nights at the Disneyland Hotel before heading to Barcelona---and I can't wait to see the park--and Paris too

I did that last time around (different hotel though). You will have a fantastic time. I really enjoyed DLP, although the original DL will always be my favorite.

Ok... so Ive been missing for awhile. Life goes on and on, and things change in a hurry. Dh and I spent a few days in Phoenix. Had some great dinners. (Ok.. we dont have big name eateries here, 1 Chile's.)

In (almost)40 years of marriage... we've had some tough things tossed our way. You can either smile and learn with humor or be grumpy and say "Why me?" My feelings are why not me, I live in the frail/ strong world. If I escape without a life wound... what went wrong?
I just know sometimes you're the student and sometimes you're the teacher.
Right now we're students.... going on a Disney Cruise with tons of friends!

Oh now what I would say is we got stopped for playing cards for Gold Fish Crackers on DCL once so you may get people stopping you if they think you are betting but it sounds like a cool idea. Wish I knew how to play poker.

Yeah on that cruise, the players had to play ahead of time and money exchanged behind closed doors. The organizers said that they were told if no money was exchanged in public, it was just like a friendly game. But good point, I'll double check in the next couple of days to verify that. Stay tuned.

Sorry to go of subject for a moment I know there is a whole board dedicated to Disneyland Paris, but well this cruise starts in europe ... and Paris is in europe.... OK tenuious link, Just humour me



Yes the train is the way to go, a little over 2 hours from leaving London you’re pulling into the Disney Resort, or the centre of Paris. I know a few people are put off by the thought of the tunnel but it really is a breeze. You are only in it for 22 minutes or so, on the way back I normally sleep through it.

Paris is beautiful, for all you DISers who have grown up with a romanticised view of the city, due to TV and Films, I can confirm it really IS like that. It’s full of amazing little discoveries hidden courtyards, squares with wonderful fountains and quaint back streets with little cafes and bars.

The Disneyland Paris Resort is a gem too. The Disneyland Park is the most beautiful Magic Kingdom of them all, the attention to details and theming is just unreal, and, due to the benefit of more than 30 years experience and a huge budget, their versions of the classic Disney rides like Big Thunder Mountain, and Pirates are the best.

The neighbouring Walt Disney Studios park was built on a more “modest” scale and budget, and suffers from a lack of size, questionable layout, and depth of theming but it still has a few wonderful attractions and is a worthy, and more relaxing, day.

The resort is perfect for a short break with 3 or 4 nights you can comfortably see the best of Disney and maybe even a day in the city. The 6 themed Disney hotels are all located a short walk from the 2 theme parks which themselves are just a few hundred yards apart. meaning you can walk everywhere.

If you are on a tighter budget several good neighbour hotels offer more affordable lodging and are still very close to the parks making commuting easy.

It certainly is a different experience than the American Parks, but one that offers Europeans the chance to experience a flavour of Disney without the investment of time and money required to visit Walt Disney World or Disneyland.

Just did the train this April. From Paris to London though and I lasted maybe a total of 15 minutes awake before I zonked out. The gentle back and forth movement lulled me to sleep and I missed the tunnel Wanted to "experience" it awake.

Anyway, Paris. Definitely a must for you if your even relatively close. Been there twice now and considering a 3rd time.

As for my experience at the Disneyland Paris hotels, we had a very bad one. The staff was not so nice but that shouldn't put you off. I only stayed there to avoid paying for entrances because as DVC members, we got the free passes for staying on site. Also, I was terrified of getting "lost" using the metro. Now I know that it is extremely easy and after getting my DD and I into Central Paris from Val De Fontenney (maybe misspelled) I am confident that I can get us out there w/o any problems in the future so I will be staying in Central Paris to fulfill my dream of going back "again". And imagine - all this done w/o speaking a lick of French. Although I did get my Rosetta Stone French and should be downloading it to my computer soon. LOL

Yes, DLParis is definitely something that should be experience by others. It is more "glitterly" than the ones out here. The employees were decent and some even downright friendly so you still get the "Magic" of WDW and DL.

If I go out there again to stay, I will spend the $$ or points and stay at the DL Paris Hotel.

Welcome back!! So so sorry to hear about your DH's health issues. to you and your DH. As you said, lots of new studies going on. DH's Dad and his Uncle both had Parkinson's. Hopefully, DH can get into some sort of clinical trial and the meds would be lots less.

The Capt. Tom pin I had to buy unfortunately, but I think it is the same one. Also, I noticed you said Brea Mall. We have dear friends that live in Brea and when we visit, we love The Hat. I can taste the pastrami now. Is that by you?

I will have to look for the shirt in Penny's - thanks for the heads up!

Brea is about 8-10 miles away but a straight shot right up Imperial Hwy (a misnomer as Imperial Hwy is a street) for me. We discovered The Hat and periodically go there. Doesn't matter what time of day - it is always packed but boy do they get your order out fast. Almost as fast as the Original Tommy's in Los Angeles.

They actually weighed our carry on luggage. If you check with the airline they will tell you the max weight of carry on. They meant it to. My bag was over becasue my camera was in it. I had to take it out and carry it around my neck (made no sense to me) When I got to the gate I put it back in my bag. I just could not believed they weighed our carry on as wel as our checked.

That doesn't make sense does it - my son did the same thing - removed a sweater and once he passed security - put it right back in. Guess it just depends on who's at the gate.

Sigh, so not looking forward to the drive back (its about 2 1/2 hrs from my house) but if the traffic "gets too bad" I've allowed some stop time at the Camarillo outlets on the way back. SIGH.....watch, just for that - I won't hit traffic. The one time you count on traffic and it won't come through.

Small world again for the second time tonight. My late sister Karen and her family used to live in Diamond Bar which I think is about 10 miles or so from you. I used to fly into Ontario to visit her.

Sam, my DD was accepted into UCSB but ultimately chose USD. She really like the campus at UCSB but the programs at USD suited her better.

....the lanyards ARRIVED at my house on Tuesday!

I'm pretty happy with them----the colors that the lanyard team all voted on anonymously turned out really great (and, actually, I should say I haven't even told the LANYARD TEAM members what the lanyards look like yet....gotta keep some surprises!! ). Also I decided on this trip, after some suggestions from team members and other cruisers to go with a slightly wider lanyard than I've usually ordered for cruises in the past. They're still pretty soft and comfortable but they're now wide enough for pin people to put their pins on!

We just came from the Brea Mall, saw a queue line that was in front of Victoria's Secret and just assumed it was for their bra sale (hey! Ladies out here in CA are for Vickie's stuff. Anyway, took us a 3rd time of hearing clapping and whisltes to realize it wasn't for bras (DD thought they may have been having a fashion show until we realized that the line which was wrapped almost around the entire downstairs mall was for the new iphone4. Think I'll order mine online and wait for delivery. I'm not in that much of a hurry.

Did you nt wonder why it was mainly MEN queuing for the bra sale????

Gus got up at 5am and didn't get home with his until after 3pm!!! This will be his 4th iPhone. He's on that thing so much I call it the other woman!!!

Yes, the iPhone seems to have taken over that role!!!! Apple are on to a good thing, just add more gadgetty things and the guys just have to get the new one - every time!!!

Going to the doctor's soon to see if he can help with the continuing pain after having had my gallbladder out. I have given it 5 weeks, but the pain is almost the same as it was before, and indeed since the pancreatitis in December. In other ways I feel so much better, but I want to get on top of the pain. As is usual in these things(sod's law they call it), the last 2 days have been the best I have had, which is good of course, but when it comes to going to the doc's!!! I have had good days before only for the pain to come back again, so I am going to go anyway. We have to make non urgent appointments so far in advance for the doc you want.

Hopefully it won't interfere with all my planning and the cruise, though it does mess up the insurance side of things.
