I was told that you had to complete 5 to be gold, and complete 10 to be platinum. If you book cruise 6 on board, you don't get the gold OBC - but you do get the advanced booking perks and the gold gift in your cabin.

I know we don't stay on a topic long, but I really don't remembering chatting about recycling underware... :rotfl2:

It doesn't make sense that you would not get the on board credit if you had already COMPLETED five cruises when you boarded. The way it was explained to me yesterday by the DCL Castaway Club rep on the phone was that if your had COMPLETED your fifth cruise when you board, you WOULD get the on gold credit and gifts. You might just call the Castaway at DCL and reconfirm.

If I remember correctly, the recycled underwear came up in a conversation about throwing them away and having them returned by room steward.

Thanks for the explanation about the VAT. I am assuming that if we get a paid in full invoice that the VAT has been paid. Am I correct?

In my several dozen trips to Europe, I have always seen prices listed as "VAT inclusive." I've never had anyone add it on afterward. (Most printed receipts show a breakdown, indicating how much of the price was attributed to VAT.)

Yes. The VAT is already included in the price.

Welcome Kimmy.

It is amazing to me how many folks I cruised with on the 2007 WBRepo and the EBPCRepo and do not know any of them. This cruise I am staying out of the laundry room and I am going to work on not being shy. Maybe I will start each day off with the drink of the day so I am relaxed.;)

Just stopped by to ramble. Now off to bed.

:goodvibes I know the feeling! Not that I spent time in the laundry room, but I feel like there were too many people I didn't get to meet last time. Trying not to make that mistake again.

Glad you made an appearance, Kimmy! You know, if you prefer to be called Kimberly, I can be Buckeye Kimberly or OH (Ohio) Kimberly, and you can be Tar Heels Kimberly! :lmao:

I think it's awesome that you found such a great travel companion years ago! I've made so many special friendships with DISers, so I know you no doubt cherish yours!

Not a problem! :thumbsup2 I became Kimmy with my first niece 17 years ago and it seems more people have started calling me that over the years. I always introduce myself as Kimberly (because my mother beat it into my head), but I've been called Kim, Kimmy, & Kim-Kim so I'll answer to almost anything. As they say "just don't call me late for dinner!" :rotfl:

We'll unpack one day.

Woody

Unfortunately I know this feeling too - I just wish it was because of vacation. :headache: I travel almost every week for work so my suitcase is always open. I ended up turning my guest bedroom into a makeshift walk-in closet because I got tired of putting clothes into drawers just to pull them right back out again to pack them. At least come August I'll be packing for fun!!

So if the WBTA is my 5th is it better to book on board or wait til I get home so I can get the gold OBC? (So much to learn...) :confused3

I agree!

How was Disneyland Paris?

Woody

Disneyland paris was great - But the hotel was the greatest thing about the trip! It was like staying in a Paris village - just wonderful! we cooked our dinners - and after the first night I asked at the market what the directions actually said - the first night was on a wing and a prayer - Rick Steves doesn't put "cooking" words into his translation book! I am so thankful somebody told me about the place (can't remember who it was) on the EBTA board!

Oh my! I'm blushing.

Woody

One day I will travel like you - right now we just do 3-4 weeks at a time! We will do Austria and Amsterdam before this cruise.

This cruise I am staying out of the laundry room and I am going to work on not being shy. Maybe I will start each day off with the drink of the day so I am relaxed.;)

I normally stay out of the laundry room but this last time I actually got to socialize with quite a few Diser's! So I think if we "plan" it right (do you all still want to do the 2/3 am laundry meet? - I will organize it - limited number of spots so everyone has a washer/dryer!) It was fun this last time!

Krisann and Kimberly,

We are adding pre- and post-cruise travel to the WBTA, for a total vacation of eight weeks.

We'll unpack one day.

Woody

inquiring minds want to know what kind of suitcases do you buy? I want ones that last for your kind of travel!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH and a BIG HELLO from Germany.
Steffi.

...

I will try to follow you guys here. But you guys are sooo fast. And raising a baby boy, who will turn 1 in two weeks, I am pretty busy during the day!

But I will try to write here, cause I love boards!!!!

I will introduce me/us later. I am off to bed now... Because baby is a sleep.

Looking forward to meeting you on booooooooard... the Magic

Steffi from Germany.

Welcome! We had an exchange student from Germany when I was in high school and her name was Steffi - lost all her info and have never found it in my mother's stuff - but still hoping to find it one day so I can find her again.

We will be flying into Munich the week before the cruise and then going to Salzburg to visit. Now to remember to pack my german book!

I'm glad you liked the Marriott Village d'ille de France. I think I told you about it on the EBTA boards. We stayed there several times, and love having the full size kitchen, dining room and living room.

Thanks for the detailed explanation about the roads. After seeing our proposed itinerary, do you see anything of significance that we have left off our tour? Also, any idea how long it takes to drive to Cabo Girao?

We didn't go all over the island, though i know people did hire taxis and go on tours which they all said were excellent. So, i can't answer your question about what not to miss.

It should take less than 30 minutes to get to Cabo Girao from Funchal. That is what they say it takes from the airport and the airport is a little further. There will be a few vendors selling wares up there - embroidered things etc, but there was no hassling at all. There is a cafe and restrooms there.

Camara de Lobos is a nice little quaint fishing village. Apparently the men are very macho and the women know their place. :confused3:sad2:The men get very drunk on the money they get from fishing the waters. An interesting read if you can read up about it. They paint their fishing boats in bright colours.

We use the lightest bags we can find.

I use a Rick Steves carry-on bag with backpack straps. DW uses a lightweight soft-sided carry-on with wheels. She got it free as a gift with purchase.

The bags, when empty, weigh about three pounds each.

Woody

I reckon if I lose a load of weight, all my new clothes will weigh much lighter!!!!! :lmao: I can take more;) and still have lighter suitcases!!!

Thank you for the clarification. I thought that was correct but it is good to see it confirmed.

Thanks for info. The article was an interesting read. Not good news about the male/female relationships but what can one do?

I just got a wall post from Jacqueline Rossell who commented:

"We used Daniel on the EBTA and his company is great! We had a very nice and well informed driver (who's name totally escapes me). Van was in tip-top shape too."

Sorry I have to post this HERE, cause I cannot send a PM, cause I have not send enough posts...

WELCOME!!! We look forward to meeting you and your family.

Thank you, and several others, for clearing this up for us. We have traveled the US alot, but this is our first to Europe and we just want to be prepared.

"Off topic" :lmao: I didn't think this group could stick to one topic in the first place. In the past six threads we have discussed numerous things some of them at the same time which made for some interesting reading if you had not been following the complete conversation, ie recycling underwear:lmao:

Jon
:laughing::lmao:

And let's not mention eye patches!!!:rotfl:

:rotfl2::rotfl:

I can always count on a morning laugh from my DIS friends!

DH says we are not buying any more suitcases!! I have an entire set of Hartman, plus numerous other suitcases. I think we are going to bring 2 of them plus our special carry ons that I bought. I am debating whether to ship one more to the hotel via Luggage Forward or take it along. I realize that it is twice as much to forward but am not sure I want to drag it along with the stuff I don't need until the cruise. Decisions, decisions.

As to loosing weight, I am working on that goal. I have hit a plateau so I must add more exercise to the regimen. Boy, going over the hill also seems to mean not so easy to drop those pounds gained with going into menopause!! Any tips for permanent weight loss??

I know just what you mean about it being harder to lose weight past the menopause!!! What I find more than a little annoying is that as we get older we are supposed to eat a lot less, eat none of the good stuff we enjoy, and exercise a lot more. Just completely the wrong way round to me!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I wholeheartedly concur!! Aren't the "golden years" supposed to be the best years of your life? Seems to me it is a whole lot harder to be older than younger!!

Just my thoughts....

I can't cook. Tony might be disappointed.

Woody

Not at all ... he does most of our cooking ... far better at it than I am :thumbsup2

I have had trouble losing weight since hitting 40. Even exercising doesn't seem to help and I just yo-yo up and down a few lbs. want to get down to 140lbs before this cruise, but have a stubborn 7lbs hanging on in there.:sad2:

What I would give to have to loose just 7 pounds!! Of course if I were that close, I would be a typical California woman and opt for liposuction!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

oooooohhhhh ..... I am way too much of a wimp for that Noel :rotfl2:
No ... it will be salads only in August and no desserts ( apart from the wedding I need to attend )

Sometimes I just want to sit around and watch TV all day eating chocolates or rich puddings!!!!!!

The last few lbs are always the hardest. Keep going!!! Sometimes I think the last couple of weeks before the vacation or whatever we are aiming for give us the will to have a final go at it, plus being excited and busy all helps.

Are there any viewers of "Deadliest Catch" from Discovery Channel on-board with me? Tonight's episode is going to be very difficult to watch. I just might have to recorded it and watch later.

Last week's episode was difficult to swallow too. When Jake told his dad he was an addict and then Phil told him he wanted him out of his life and to never see him again after they got back to port, you just couldn't help but think about those words from his pop. Imagine how Jake must have felt when he saw that fight air on television, months after his death. I hope the young man is on a road to recovery in honor of his dad's love for him. :sad1:
