The sun seems to have gone all shy and hidden itself today :confused3 We have a Bank Holiday here in the UK too, so poor weather is the norm!:rolleyes1

We spent the day yesterday on the south coast visiting DH's family near Portsmouth (Gosport...a Naval town) and had a lovely time. DD stayed home as she didn't feel up to a big social event, and when I came home home she'd done most of my ironing pile....aren't I lucky? Bless her!

Happy memorial Day to all you US people! :grouphug:

I just went and bought some Bonine. My DD was driving, so I was able to check it out. Stopped the nausea pretty quick. I'll be bringing a box or two.

I get sea sick, air sick, car sick. Motion bothers me. The last time I cruised during September I vowed to stop celebrating my birthdays with a cruise.

During that hurricane (I think it was Erika, but won't swear to it) I sat on the deck wrapped up in a blanket and watched the horizon and the waiters brought me a drink everytime they saw my glass was empty. I was actually okay. Dinner was fun. The boat was at an angle (Celebrity) and we had to keep catching our drinks. After dinner, I went to my room, put on my pjs, and brought up my pillow. I was going to sleep there on deck. About 2:00am they made me go inside. :sad2::sad2:

Since that cruise, I've been cruising April, May and December. They have all been really calm cruises. Now they say this is going to be the worse hurricane seaon in decades. YAY me.:rolleyes:

I'm bringing Dramimene, Bonine, sea bands, ginger tabs and the patch. My cabin is pretty much midship. And I have a balcony, so I'll have air and can watch the horizon from my bed if necesary.

Two questions. One.. if the waves are 30 foot, do they allow you to go out on your balcony? Would YOU go out on your balcony? Is the balcony safe?

Two.. can anyone give me any other items I should bring to help me?

OK, you guys are getting me worried now... I haven't gotten ill on larger boats - but me and the glass bottom boat is another story... This is also true for both the kids... So, now I am worried that we will get ill if the waves are bad... Has anyone done the acupressure bands that are just pressure - no electric stim?

The other thing that hits me is that it takes days (was a week after our 7 day last year) for me to completely lose my sea legs. Someone on DIS had suggested taking dramamine before the end of the cruise (starting on day 5 for a y day) and then for 2 days after we get off.

Thoughts?

Thought I would post a picture of Peter (the groom) and I at his wedding this afternoon. They had a BEAUTIFUL day for their outdoor wedding on the edge of the golf greens at a local country club. There was a time that no one would have been surprised if we got married, but there's no doubt his bride Christen and him were meant to be!

Sadly, I was so busy doing the video during the ceremony and video messages from guest during the reception that I have only one almost good picture of them together from the cake cutting, so I need to get my hands on a good picture of them together! I'm very happy for the couple in love! :lovestruc He's grown so much in so many ways that he is truly deserving to be so blessed! She's a gem!

Kimberly, what a great picture! I hope that you are able to get the pictures you want from Peter.

You look FABULOUS by the way! :cutie:

Sue

We call each other our "TWIN" but I am glad I do not get sick. Of course who knows how this Vertigo will affect me on the cruise. :confused3:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

The Bonine contains Meclizine just like what I took for the Vertigo and it sure made me drowsy but I will take that over being sick. I got a sea band too. I have heard too many people having adverse reactions to the patch so that is one thing I will just never use. The worse is double vision and I could just see me trying to navigate with that problem and bringing back the Vertigo!!!:rotfl:

I think that with high waves, I will keep the balcony door closed and watch from inside!!!:lmao: Don't want to lose you
Okay, no balcony with 30 foot waves. :goodvibes

We were on the last Disney Mexican Riviera cruise when the seas were really rough. It gets pretty wet on the balcony, so sleeping outside may be a bit chilly and wet.

I get terribly seasick and used to avoid cruises for that reason. Dramamine, Bonine and Scopolomine patches only worked a little for me. I still felt a little ill and was probably the only person onboard who lost weight on a cruise. A few years ago I bought the Relief Band from Sharper Image. Magellans and several other companies carry it too. It puts out a small electrical pulse every few minutes which works in a similar way as accupressure. Anyway it works. Hopefully it will work as well on the Transatlantic, especially now with a strong hurricane season being predicted.
Thanks Betty. I'll be bringing one!:goodvibes

On my first cruise, The Sept 18, 2005 Wonder cruise. We had to deal with hurricane Rita. We had over thirty foot waves. I did not know if they let you on the balcony, but they left you out on deck 4. You did get hit by water spray. On deck 3 the port holes wound some time be underwater. The ship was definitely rocking and rolling. At that time we were told that it was the worst sea conditions that the Wonder has ever seen. Even with those horrible sea conditions i keep coming back

Stephen
Me too Steven!! There is no way I'm cancelling this cruise. Not happening. :goodvibes

We're gonna have some problems seeing the horizon from our cat 10 inside room, lol! I'll be the one that's a ghastly shade of green, hanging out on deck.:rotfl:

You really are a sucker for punishment aren't you! :lmao:
That little black mouse is very addictive!

Congratulations to your friends. Kimberly, your spotty dress looks gorgeous! ;)
Very addictive.. :goodvibes

Didn't mean to worry you Sue. My very first cruise was with hurricane Hugo with Disney on the Big Red Boat. I wasn't going to get on but the Captain assured me, wherever Hugo was, we wouldn't be. Plus, I thought it would be a PR nightmare if Mickey and Minnie were lost at sea.:scared1::scared1:

For whatever reason, I have not been sick on a large cruise ship. I think on that cruise I had Draminime and the sea bands. A little green around the edges, but not sick. Sick I leave for sitting in the backseat of a car :sick::sick: deep sea fishing :sick: :sick: and air turbelence.:sick::sick::sick:

But I just want to make sure I have every means known to man for sea sickness, so I can nip it in the bud. Our last cruise our cabin was directly over the stabilizer bar. I felt nothing!!!!!!

Hey Everyone!

I hope everbody is having a great weekend.

We saw Phantom of the Opera last night at the Wharton Center. For those who know Michigan, that is where all the large traveling productions are done. We are getting Mary Poppins in December and I want to see it. I don't get what all the hype around Phantom is though. I thought it was boring and too long. The second act was much better than the first. Lion King still wins out as my favorite "Broadway" production that has come to our town.

When I hear people talk about not ever getting into the pool, it makes me think of that line from WALLE- "I didn't know we have a pool!!" There have been a couple of short cruises where Amanda and I were too busy to even get in the pool. But with 6 days at sea, I have penciled in some pool time. I'm not big for swimming but I like to get cooled off then go back to my lounger and read. On this cruise, I will be reading textbooks since I'm going back to school to get my degree in Marketing.

Off to my parents house today for a BBQ even though its supposed to rain here today.

Annette :)

Happy Memorial Day everyone!

I just heard from some friends of mine that arrived in Barcelona this morning.....they are going on the Repositioning cruise this weekend from Barcelona to Dover and are part of our "DIS" family.....anyway when they got off the Aerobus they were distracted for a brief second and had a small carry on bag stolen while at the Plaza Cataluna. They wanted everyone to be aware of your surroundings and keep your eyes open. Luckily they did not have a passport or wallet stolen so it could have been much worse.

Have a great day and remember our military men, women and their families today!!

Mary Poppins is a must! She visited us in Chicago last year. It was fantastic.

I will be another person studying on the pool deck, you will not be alone. :flower3:

What a shame for them.:sad2: You really have to have your wits about you. I bet the thieves stalk out the Aerobus drop off points for just this reason as people are perhaps a little distracted getting their bags and their bearings too. Thanks for the extra warning for us all to be vigilant.

How did you not make it to the hot tub?????????

10 cruises, one of them 10 day, one 15 day.....we've been in the hot tub twice that I can remember. We may have sat by the pool once but I cannot remember doing that. :confused3 We are not water folks I guess. You will find us in the Rainforest daily though! :goodvibes

Today we in the States are celebrating Memorial Day. It's a day set aside to honor those that serve now, those that have served in the past and those that have given the ultimate sacrifice which allows me to live the free life that I live and gives me the opportunity to talk with all you wonderful people.

So for those no longer with us, for those that have served in the past and for those presently serving, one big

THANK YOU :thumbsup2

Yes, THANK YOU!!

Phew! I just read about 50 pages. That's what I get for not checking the boards for a couple of weeks. Darn work gets in the way! :lmao:

First - HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!! Thanks to all who have put their lives on the line for me and my family!

Second - I received my PacSafe bag and I think it's going to work out nicely. It's more of a purse than a backpack and the strap can be adjusted so I can wear it across my body like a messenger bag in the front. Overstock.com still has more bags in three colors if anyone is interested...and they are super cheap!!!! ($30 with shipping)

When comparing things in Gilbalter and Medeira remember disney excursions are quoted in USD and private are in Euro's - I was thinking the Unforgettable West Side was expensive until others did excursions on their own and the total price in Euro's was almost as much as this one and they had no food. I had never thought of it till then to compare disney prices against Euro's.

Just food for thought

Krisann

Thanks for pointing this out Krisann! I will keep this in mind when booking my excursions. :hippie:

I think it would be nice to learn all 3 languages but I am concentrating on updating my California Spanish to Castillian Spanish.

I am also working on my Catalan. I have a free translator app for my iPhone and I study some words/phrases here and there. I'm sure my studying time will increase the closer we get to September! :cool1:

Hey everyone

Just some random thoughts:

If they do sail away during 2nd seating dinner, I will skip the sit down dinner and just grab something from deck 9.

I have lost 6lbs since I posted about trying to lose weight! Very happy! Just 139 more to go.

Anyone watch Biggest Loser last night? Amazing results!
Annette :)

CONGRATS Annette! Every pound is worth celebrating! I love BL! I was amazed by the transformations, but I do worry about them keeping it off long term. It seems most are gaining a visible amount of weight back. They should do some aftercare for the contestants, such as a week or two at the BL ranch or something. I wish you well on your journey!!!!! (BTW I'm on the same journey and I keep veering off the road. :lmao:)

Yes I hear that for sure. Part of the reason Jason and I get very nervous about seating with strangers is that on our first Disney cruise together (which was Jason's first cruise ever and my second cruise, but first on DCL), we got seated with two other couples without children----and somehow we got so "lucky" that we got seated with not one, but TWO couples who both had an obvious problem with be seating with a couple that was two men. One of those couples never came back to dinner after the first night. We aren't sure if they asked to switch seating or just ate on deck to avoid us. The other couple did come to dinner every night except their Palo night but they basically ignored us and made it clear they didn't want us to talk to them either-----so that was very uncomfortable for 4 nights and left us a little gunshy. On our next DCL cruise...we did get lucky and got seated with an amazing older couple who happened to have an adult son who also had a male partner so we got along with them great....and every cruise we've been on since then we've traveled with friends and/or family and been able to "stack" our tables!! :thumbsup2

Jason and I would definitely not mind linking up with folks who have late dining if we felt certain we were going to be eating with folks who were friendly and comfortable and nice----and if we were able to link with people who are also doing the B2B (like we are) that would even be a bonus!! :thumbsup2

Don't be so sure...you'll be surprised at how many kids there are in late dining. I think lots of parents find their kids enjoy the show better when they can go to the early show BEFORE dinner rather than trying to go to the late one after dinner when they may be more tired and stuff.

Erik, I'm sad to hear about yours and Jason's experience! It breaks my heart to hear stories like this!!! :sad1::sad1::sad1:

Good morning everyone ......

ONLY 16 WEEKS ( 112 DAYS ) UNTIL THE MAGIC BEGINS AND WE BOARD THE DISNEY MAGIC

:yay::yay::yay:

Its getting closer :woohoo:

Woo-Hoo!!! And I will be on a plane 15 weeks from today!!!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

We aren't water folk, or beach folk really. We haven't been in or sat around the pools on the ships, or been in the hot tubs. We did try the Rainforest Room, but got bored!! And that after waiting about 30 minutes for one of the loungers to be vacated!!!!!:lmao: At least those waiting after us didn't have as long a wait.;) We love walking on the beach, but, we get bored sitting around, particularly John. I can cope with a little beach loounger lounging and daydreaming.:)

Bless her!

My grandfather's family is from the Portmouth area. For many years, my cousin's husband was the harbour master for Portsmouth.

I still have family who live in Waterlooville and Hayling Island.

I have a question on the FE gifts. Are we starting distribution on Saturday or Sunday? I am also assuming our last gifts will be distributed on Friday, the night before we dock in Port Canaveral.

Am I correct or is there a different plant?

Just my thoughts...

:surfweb:

I've not seen any rules Noel, so I'm guessing just deliver when you want and fits in with all your plans.

Okay, no balcony with 30 foot waves. :goodvibes

Thanks Betty. I'll be bringing one!:goodvibes

My son and his wife lost their home in Mt Pleasant, South Carolina in Hugo. I also remember the Big Red Boat. We did our first Disney Cruise on that ship with DD Samantha when she was about 7.

I don't typically get seasick on the ship but have been seasick on smaller boats. I always drive as I do get carsick. I will avail myself of the bonnine on board if we have some high seas. I will also try the ginger ale and green apples cure.

I've not seen any rules Noel, so I'm guessing just deliver when you want and fits in with all your plans.

Thanks, Marilyn. I was thinking that will some people may put their FE out right away or maybe not? I don't want to disappoint any of the kiddos who are expecting something to arrive in their FE right away.

Just my thoughts..

I do remember you telling me that some time back on the Panama canal thread so I thought you'd be interested!:thumbsup2 DH says he spent many happy days at Hayling Island as a child :)
